Manga News: Young Animal Island vol. 6 on sale September 28th, to feature Kimikiss

Kimikiss fans take note! In anticipation of the upcoming October airing of Kimikiss Pure Rouge as well as celebration of the simultaneous 09/28 release of Shinonome Taro-penned Kimikiss – various heroines – vol. 2, volume 6 of the very occasionally released (twice yearly?) Young Animal Island manga compilation is scheduled to feature an alternate cover for various heroines 2, a double-sided Pure Rouge poster, a new installment of various heroines as well as one-shot stories from a host of famous ecchi seinen manga artists (what’s Hiroyuki doing there? I can’t wait to find out). Looks to be a volume for the collectors indeed. :3 (no more)

Manga News: Queen’s Blade stories to begin serialization in Comp Ace, Dengeki Black Maoh

In a habitual browsing of the the official Queen’s Blade site this morning I noticed that they’d updated back on September 10th with the news that the Queen’s Blade franchise will be extending beyond game books, figures, pillows and anthology comics to the world of serialized manga. The first of two manga will be running in Kadokawa Shoten’s monthly Comp Ace beginning with its October 26th issue, and will be penned by Minasaki Iku of doujin circle Doropanda Tours; while lacking in a personal website it seems that the bulk of Minasaki’s published work consists of My HiME parody doujin, an appropriate topic given that his QB manga is scheduled to focus on Hisayuki-designed character Elina and her search for her sister. The second of the two Queen’s Blade manga will begin serialization in new Media Works magazine Dengeki Black Maoh, the first issue of which is on sale tomorrow, September 19th. It will be penned by doujin veteran Astroguy II, be entitled “Queen’s Blade Struggle”, and comprise a variety of side story episodes featuring the various QB heroines. We’ll keep an eye on these projects as they unfold… (no more)

Eromanga Toshokan vol. 001: Giri Giri Sisters

Eromanga Toshokan is a brand new column here at HD, launched in our continuing effort to expose just how much of a sicko Shingo is fans to an oft-downloaded but seldom deeply probed segment of Japan’s visual culture: the wild world of eromanga (no, not the Australian town). For our first entry we bring you a review of the recently released Giri Giri Sisters, the second tankoubon from doujin veteran Kisaragi Gunma. Note: this post is 18+ only and not safe for perusal at work.

Figure News: Piccolo’s To LOVE-Ru Lala PVC up for preorder

First scooped here in August, as of last night Piccolo‘s Lala PVC figure from manga To LOVE-Ru is now up for preorder, set for a December release at 22 cm tall and 5,000 yen retail. Sculpting work is from Gomita Satoshi, who has a decent set of credentials to his name but doesn’t seem to have brought them to bear here with particular finesse; I expect those of us who aren’t devoted fans of the manga will probably give this one a miss. [ERO] Figure News: Movic’s Sekirei Tsukiumi sample up at Toranoana, castoff 99.9% confirmed; Musubi (race queen ver.) castoff scooped

Akiba Hobby posted yesterday evening with a review of a PVC sample of Movic’s Sekirei Tsukiumi figure (the same one we’ve been reporting on for a couple of months now). Whether by accident or by design, the bust part of Tora’s sample was left slightly askew in what stands as the clearest evidence yet of her castoff possibility without actually being [ERO]. Those on the preorder fence over this are advised to take action now… In other Sekirei news, Akibajin Blog recently and very definitively confirmed the castoffability of Movic’s upcoming Musubi (race queen ver.) that we scooped at Wonder Festival. Aside from her official Movic preorder page she’s not available anywhere else yet, but we’ll keep you posted. 9/14 Edit: It’s official: Akibajin presents confirmation of the Tsukiumi castoff, both above and below. Matsu is up as well, and she’s looking great! (no more)

[ERO] Figure Review: Yamato’s Story Image Figure EX Ryofu Housen PVC from Ikkitousen

I missed the release of this Ryofu figure in the transitory period between jobs and moving house last winter, and it was much to my chagrin that I discovered her after she’d seemingly vanished from store shelves. A few months ago Amiami must have dug up a couple of copies from a musty corner of their warehouse because she was listed for a short time once again, and I eagerly availed myself of the opportunity to procure her. Word is in from Yamato that she’ll be reissued in October, so if you missed her in the first round she’ll be widely available again soon! While not produced to the absolute best spec possible, this is one of those figures with a certain special something

[ERO?] Manga News: Kodomo no Jikan vol. 4 + “uncensored” Kojika OVA on sale tomorrow

In advance of the October airing of the Kodomo no Jikan anime, Akiba Blog and Earl Box have obtained copies of limited edition Kodomo no Jikan manga vol. 4 (on sale tomorrow, September 12th) and are reporting that the attached OVA episode is “uncensored”. Seven Seas‘ rationale for nixing the English manga release becomes more apparent every day… Edit: Moetron has just posted further coverage of the OVA content. Clicking on any of these links at work is not recommended unless you’re prepared for some very uncomfortable questions… (no more)

Manga News: Hobby Japan presents “Happy Fujoshi” nonfiction short comic collection

On October 1st Hobby Japan will be releasing a 144-page A5-size volume entitled Happy Fujoshi, a collection of nonfiction comics from 15 mangaka. “At last, a collection of authentic tales of the fujoshi lifestyle is introduced!”, says the ad copy. “We’ve appointed boys’ love and shoujo manga artists to bring you this assortment of happy love-love stories. The unbelievable daily lives of fujoshi will grab hold of your heart!” While I’ll be guarding to make sure my heart stays firmly where it belongs, I think I’ll be picking this up FOR SCIENCE (to further my ongoing fujoshi research project)… samples of the compiled manga can be found here and here. [ERO] Figure News: Toy’sworks’ Crimson Grave Mirim PVC up for preorder

News in from Amiami last night that Toy’sworks’ Crimson Grave Mirim PVC figure is now available for preorder! This is an item we’ve been tracking since mid-April due to the myriad of fetish gimmicks in play (castoffable, plushily-chested, tentacley), but unlike other similarly gimmicky figures this one actually seems like a decent sculpt. The Amiami listing confirms her scheduled December release at 6,800 yen retail, 1/8 scale and 19 cm tall (tentacles not included). (no more)

Figure News: Megahouse’s Clare PVC from Claymore up for preorder

First announced back at Wonder Festival, word is in today from Happinet’s online shop that Megahouse‘s Excellent Model Clare PVC figure from manga and anime Claymore is now up for preorder. She’s due for release in November at 1/8 scale (19 cm tall) and 5,775 yen retail; Megahouse’s reputation for consistent quality should reassure fans that this will be a solid base upon which to build a (hopefully) larger Claymore lineup in the future. [ERO] Figure News: Vispo-sculpted, Kotoyoshi Yumisuke-designed Sanae gets an oppai matsuri blogsplosion

The Daiki Kougyou-produced PVC version of Vispo‘s Sanae garage kit (based on an illustration from Kotoyoshi Yumisuke‘s Shokunyuu 2) was showered with love from the Japanese figure blogs today, as Toranoana‘s in-store display of a prototype revealed that her lower half is castoffable. Other than Ascii‘s coverage we have representation today from Akiba Hobby, Akibajin, and Akiba Blog. Earlier reports documented the malleable bosoms expected to come as an exchangeable part with the kit, and Ascii’s coverage shows us just how far they’ll go…. Preorders for the October-release kit have closed at most Japanese stores, but as of posting HLJ and YesAsia both still have their listings open. Truly an epic figure release in the making… (no more)

Figure News: Kaiyodo’s Fuuka (uniform ver.) from Yotsubato! up for preorder

As first reported in our Wonder Festival 2007 Summer coverage, Kaiyodo‘s Fuuka from Yotsubato! is now available for preorder! She’s scheduled to go on sale November 1st at 2,940 yen retail, and at 18.5 cm tall is sized to scale with the Yotsuba Revoltech coming out on September 27th. Maybe it’s just me, but I’d like to see Kaiyodo give BOME a break and feature Enoki Tomohide instead for awhile… (no more)

Figure News: Battle Angel Alita (Gunnm’s Gally) action figure, in color

Ultra Jump, the manga serial in which Gunnm: Last Order is published, posted further details on the Gally action figure we reported on back in July including a few sample images of the color prototype. According to the latest news from Ultra Jump the figure is still scheduled to be included with the limited edition of the “Gunnm Gaiden” manga, but no firm release date has yet been set and preorder details are still pending. We’ll update again when preorder listings are available. Pictures below:

[ERO] Figure News: Yamato launches new figure line with Cobra-Kai’s Kanu

Maker Yamato today launched a new line of high quality figures dubbed Project Dynamite, with the long awaited Cobra-Kai sculpted 1/5 scale [ERO] Kanu Unchou prisoner ver. PVC from Ikkitousen as its flagship release. While it’s nice to see official online recognition from Yamato that they plan to release the kit, frustratingly there are still no details regarding its price or projected release date. The pre-preorder suspense continues… (no more)

[ERO] Figure News: Griffon presents Ikkitousen’s Kanu, Hakufu, Ryofu, Gentoku, and Queen’s Blade Nanael completed figures, now in preorder

Griffon announced a veritable blitz of releases over the weekend, with preorders going up for Yamamoto Masahiro sculpted October release China Dress Kanu Unchou and [ERO] Ryofu Housen PVCs, a Sugiyama Satoshi sculpted October release Ryuubi Gentoku PVC, a late September release Akiyama Akio sculpted [ERO] nekkid Sonsaku Hakufu cold cast, and the extravagant Hiroman sculpted Queen’s Blade Nanael PVC / resin / cold cast hybrid due out in October. I’d pick up the Hakufu if she were in PVC, but as is the Kanu is the only one I’m mildly interested in (and maybe the Ryofu if they fix her face). Announce these things earlier and you might sell more, Griffon! (no more)

[ERO] Figure News: Toy’sworks’ Crimson Grave Mirim PVC on the preorder horizon

Toy’sworks has just uploaded a sales pamplet image to their site for their earlier scooped ero-ero Mirim PVC, a collaboration with manga serial Dragon Age PURE and Miyake Taishi‘s Crimson Grave manga, whose heroine she is. She is almost entirely castoffable, pliantly busted, and cross-promoted with Toy’sworks’ series of tentacle monster figures, making her a fetish figure in more ways than could possibly be enumerated here… she’s due out in December, at 6,800 yen (tax included), 1/8 scale and 19 cm tall. Picture below:

Figure News: Orchid Seed’s Fiine, Ikaru Satsuki, Ten’i PVCs up for preorder

Orchid Seed pulls to the head of the pack today as the first maker to bring a substantial portion of their Wonder Festival announced PVC lineup up for preorder (thus far on their official site only, other locations expected to have their listings up within the next day or two). Listings now online are the earlier scooped PVC version of their [ERO] Comic Unreal cover girl Fiine (Feane) kit, due out in December; [ERO] Seinarukana‘s Ikaru Satsuki, due out in November, and Ikkitousen‘s Ten’i, out in December as well. This winter is becoming crowded already… (no more)

Figure News: Orchid Seed presents Mogudan-designed Comic Unreal cover girl Onna Kenshi Fiine in PVC

Well, it was bound to happen. Precisely because I bought the resin kit, Orchid Seed turned around and announced at the “WONDERFUL HOBBY LIFE FOR Wholesaler & Retailers” expo today the PVCification of their (formerly Wanfesu limited) Onna Kenshi Fiine kit, based on the Mogudan illustrated cover of [ERO] Comic Unreal vol. 6. No release date has been disclosed, but the price has been set at 6,800 yen retail; I paid 9,800 for the (unpainted, unassembled) kit. This is good news, but AARGH. ;_; (no more)

Pre-Comiket Figure News: Capcom’s Shijou Saikyou no Deshi Kenichi Miyu, Shigure kits up for preorder

A couple of bishoujo items from Wonder Festival we neglected to mention made their sudden appearance on Amiami last night – a brace of very attractive figures from manga and anime Shijou Saikyou no Deshi Kenichi: heroines Fuurinji Miyu and Kousaka Shigure will be coming in PVC from Capcom in October! Something very similar to that Miyu sculpt has been lurking on the top page of Tandem Twin for several months now, and I’m guessing they’re variations on the same item… regardless, some very happy news for fans of fighting girls indeed. Wonder Festival 2007 Summer: ero~i PVC news roundup

We wrap up our coverage of Wonder Festival 2007 Summer today (other than the trip report, which may end up coming next week) with a quick look at some of the other PVC releases that we’ll be looking forward to over the coming months. Wondering about that second Musubi from Movic, or what Bome’s next release will be? How about that bizarre new Max Factory Polo System kit? We’ve got you covered.

[ERO] Figure Review: Kotobukiya’s Plug (insulator suit ver.) PVC from Fight Ippatsu! Juuden-chan!!

I’m ordinarily not much of a hinyuu fan, but when this Plug-chan kit appeared on the horizon back in April I was psyched. The second coming of Mahoromatic in an ero-ero vinyl suit – is this really Kotobukiya we’re talking about? Indeed it is, and it seems they’ve gone the rare extra mile to make this a figure to remember.

[ERO] Figure News: cast-off checkup

In the prurient interests of comprehensive figure coverage, some updates on a few of the items we’ve been following here recently: Akiba Blog scoops the castoffability of Megahouse’s soon to be released Queen’s Blade Tomoe figure, albeit the limited color edition. Updated Amiami listings also bring good news, in the form of new shots of Taki Corporation’s ero-ero Kanu Unchou Ikkitousen kit and Movic’s recently announced Sekirei Tsukiumi and Matsu; relevant images reproduced below:

[ERO] Figure Review: Romando’s Koishikawa Nami + “Love Play Unit” PVC from Nami SOS

Ever since we reported on this noodly appendage-clad, awkwardly proportioned figure back in March I’ve been awaiting its release with a mix of anticipation and dread, similar to the mix of fascination and repulsion this kit surely inspires as one of the most bizarre items to come out of Japan’s hobby industry in a long time (at least a week). What is the result when maker Romando turns its hand to the tentacles and old-school campiness of cult classic eromanga Nami SOS? Not too shabby, especially if you’re not expecting much more than a bizarre gimmick item. This review is rated [ERO] not for explicit content but to shield the eyes of viewers with any taste whatsoever; those interested can read on for the lurid details.

Figure News: Max Factory’s Aisaka Taiga and Tenori Tiger PVC, in color

Max Factory’s staff blog updated yesterday with images of the finished color prototype of their upcoming Tenori (hand-riding) Tiger-equipped Aisaka Taiga PVC figure. Taiga is the heroine of Takemiya Yuyuko’s serial novel Toradora!, a work that just launched a manga version in this month’s Dengeki Gao and seems headed on a collision course for animefication in the near future; character design and illustration work for the novel is handled by Yasu, and Max’s rendition is looking faithful enough to hook fans of the franchise both present and future. I’m guessing we can look for a preorder up for this within the next few weeks. (no more)

Figure News: Milestone announces Stray Little Devil Pam (waitress ver.) PVC

Hobby company Milestone posted the news on their website yesterday that work has begun on a 1/8 scale PVC figure of Pam, the heroine of Dengeki Daioh serialized manga Stray Little Devil. With original design by mangaka Mori Kotarou, the figure will be based on the frontispiece of chapter 12 of the manga which depicts Pam in a waitress uniform. Sculpting duty will be handled by Kobayashi Yoshihito, who apparently has little bishoujo work to his name beyond this Maria Fleed kit from UFO Robo Grendizer; I’m not holding my breath on the quality of this given the assembled production team, but it might be a nice treat for fans of the manga. Release is expected in October at a price of 6,300 yen retail. (no more)

[ERO] Figure News: Hobby Channel teases with visions of Yamato’s exquisite Cobra-Kai Kanu

Yamato has been trotting this ero-ero 1/5 scale Cobra-Kai sculpted Kanu Unchou (Ikkitousen) kit out at conventions for over half a year now, so you’d think her appearance on Hobby Channel would bring some indication as to a price or sales date along with it – alas we are left in limbo, aside from the consolation that this is the most official presence she’s had online to date. Here’s hoping for a swift transition to preorder! Picture below:

Figure News: To LOVE Ru Lala PVC coming from Piccolo in December

News is in today that rookie maker Piccolo will be producing a 1/8 scale (22 cm) Lala Satalin Deviluke PVC figure, heroine of the popular Shounen Jump manga To LOVE Ru. She’s scheduled to retail on December 21st at 5,000 yen (tax included), well before the recently announced TV anime begins its run in April 2008; I can’t vouch for the quality of this figure as Piccolo has yet to actually produce anything, but we’ll be keeping an eye on this. A pre-production prototype of the kit is expected to be on display at Wonder Festival this weekend, and a picture of the sculpt as it currently exists can be found below:

Figure News: Alter’s Exelica, Movic’s Tsukiumi and Matsu go up for preorder

Alter posted an official page for its December-release Exelica PVC from Trigger Heart Exelica earlier this morning, and Amiami responded at their noon update with listings for both it and the earlier scooped Sekirei Tsukiumi and Matsu PVCs coming from Movic in October and November respectively. At 15,540 yen retail Exelica’s price is as astronomical as the figure is impressive, but for the Sekirei fan that I am the Matsu and Tsukiumi are looking like fine items indeed. :3 Still no word on the second version of Musubi they have in the works; hopefully she’ll be on display at Wonder Festival. Decent resolution Matsu and Tsukiumi pictures below:

[ERO] Figure Review: Griffon’s Sonsaku Hakufu (sportswear ver.) PVC from Ikkitousen

Among the three most popular Ikkitousen heroines (Kanu, Ryomou, and Hakufu, with Ryofu as an honorary fourth) Hakufu is probably my least favorite from a design perspective. That said, listening to Ikkitousen web radio for the past few months has made me a diehard fan of Asano Masumi, her voice actress. This has nothing to do with the figure in question, I just felt like a little random Masumin respect was necessary… at any rate, this offering from Griffon has dispelled much of my distaste for Hakufu’s design and is probably the best figure of her that I’ve ever seen. Read on for why:

Figure Review: Orchid Seed’s Amaloli Ryomou Shimei PVC from Ikkitousen

It’s hard to articulate what drew me to this version of Orchid’s Ryomou over the original gosurori version; I typically don’t go for alternate colors, so in this case part of the appeal may have been the simple unavailability of the earlier kit. Regardless, I’d say this repaint is at least on par with the original (though I doubt Ryomou would be caught dead in pink if she had a choice in the matter). Wondering what’s under those frills? Read on!
