Today’s thumbnail image was brought to you by Haimura Kiyotaka and To Aru Majutsu no Index, the light novel series he illustrated and for which an anime series was recently announced:

Visual novel fans may recognize his work from Yume Miru Kusuri, the ruf eroge that received an English localization from Peach Princess last year. If you haven’t picked up your copy yet now’s the time – the game just had $5 knocked off the retail price.

Finally, word came the mail yesterday evening that HD is headed to Comiket as a circle once again! The two months between now and the printing deadline feels deceptively long… If you’re interested in collaborating on a doujinshi to be released there keep an eye open, I’ll be posting soon with details on the project.
Congratulations on your Comiket acceptance Shingo! Can we expect pudding or is that for something else? :D
Anyone know if that Yotsuba is going to get a release State-side?
Glad to see they’re making an Elizabeth statue from P3. How did that one sneak by me?
The second episode for Ikusa Otome Valkyrie 2 has been schedule for a Dec 2008 release as well.
Looking forward to both the Ryuuna and Xecty releases.
>>Al
There will be a pudding-like substance produced for Comiket, though probably only in book form (though who knows what will happen, if inspiration strikes).
>>Imp
I’m guessing the new Yotsuba will see at least the same distribution as the original Revoltech Yotsuba, though I’m not sure if that means being carried by a US domestic distributor or not.
>>Azstraph
Nicely spotted, I’m curious who is behind the production of those episodes. It seems despite the doomsday predictions of the Pixy staff the industry is doing alright, if it can afford to launch new brands every other month like this…
@shingo I hate to tell you this but according to Animenation when I check on their shipments at least the 2 manga below the jlist figure recommendation are no longer allowed into united states so says u.s. customs so for any american jlist users be careful since they may not let them in but I’m speaking from what has happened to An’s manga they had available but now arent.
>>hirohisa4president
Woah, that’s some serious stuff. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. Do you have a source for that information? I’m not aware of anything in the Hatsuinu books that would be alarming to US customs, all the content is pretty straightforward consensual (if a bit kinky). No lolicon/bestiality/guro or anything, J-List screens for that and other potentially objectionable material in the selection of books they offer.
I’d almost take the opposite tack and recommend that people deliberately try to import these, as I can’t imagine any possible way in which they would be construed to be offensive to American customs. If Hatsuinu is banned, the entire American erotica industry is on shaky footing…
Well I call animenation every oncein awhile to check on orders and once u.s. customs gives them a list of things in their orders that are banned, then web crew takes off offending listed ero and thats as much as i know since beasty girls & inumimi zukon were also banned in the same shipment by customs but I’m sure you can contact gene more about banned stuff since I’m just an AN customer -.-
he’s at the Aod forum or An’s own forum
>>hirohisa4president
So the only way Animenation (or US Customs) lets customers know that books are banned is by telephoning them? I’m confused… Do you have a link to the banned books list on the customs site? Or is this just the reaction of one particular online store? This seems like a really serious issue, and without official documentation it seems irresponsible to suggest that the US government is banning books when it might just be a communication error.
If you could give me a link, or an email address, or a phone number, or some other method of confirming the bans you’re describing it would be much appreciated. I must again restate that J-List has had no issues exporting these books to the US at all, and customers should feel safe ordering them.
I dont have any links and I’m only speaking from a person who uses animenation. I was told by an AN customer service person that they recieve a list from customs but not a website link its just due to whoever is checking the shipments that day what is or is not held up and during the time those 2 books were taken off their site along with a few other books so I figured they were in the list they got as well.
I’m just speaking from the questions I asked the AN cs person and was told how the customs worked after they began clamping down.
>> Shingo, hirohisa
I guess the recent clampdown on paedophile stuff is on now (do a google on the recent news links for raids in Australia and the UK recommendations of updated laws against paedophilic drawings too.)
And yes, lolicon drawings are considered paedophile stuff.
So for those people residing in western countries (UK, USA, Aust, Germany, etc), please be careful of what you bring home after your holidays in Asian countries like Japan and SE Asia.
>>hirohisa4president
Thanks for that clarification. I’ll try to get in touch with the Animenation staff to find out exactly what the issue is.
>>blacklotus
It seems we’ve established pretty clearly here that there is no clampdown. Furthermore, there is no art depicting immature characters in these books. There is no established policy regulating eromanga in force at US customs. It is perfectly safe to buy ero books featuring mature characters in America.
I’m going to keep investigating this, but the bottom line is that there is no objectionable content in the Hatsuinu books and it is perfectly safe to buy them from J-List or any other import shop that is selling them.
If it turns out that US customs is publishing a secret list of banned comic books that will be a huge scoop that I won’t hesitate to report here should it prove to be true, but as of right now it’s not.
I just sent an email to Gene at the AnimeNation forums asking about this; hopefully he’ll be able to clarify exactly what’s up.
I don’t have a list here (not at the HQ atm), so I can’t give you details on specific manga.
Yes, customs has been seizing some manga for a few months now. So far, when they identify the ‘offenders’, we just stop carrying them. The list we have are titles that we’ve had seized on import, it’s not a comprehensive list of all banned items.
As mentioned about, there’s a crackdown on pedophile material, or what’s considered pedophile according to the arbitrary judgement of the person inspecting our shipments that day at the customs dock. Now, some titles aren’t really in question, they’re pretty obvious, but many are pretty subjective. Books that were ok one shipment get a different inspector, and seized, the next.
I don’t have the law with me. (Once again, not in the office) Artistic or animated depictions or sex and/or nudity used to be ok, but it’s been quietly revised to include drawn or cg material. So far on most seized items (since import manga isn’t our primary revenue source) it’s not worth fighting the witch hunt. I have complained to customs about the arbitrary nature of the seizures, we’ll see if that does anything.
Bottom line, if they look young, if they appear that the *might* be minors, you run the risk of seizure.
@shingo see I wan’t making anything up I just dont have links to everything -.-
@gene has customs ever taken manga that the person at the time didnt like but didnt have any offending material?
>>Gene
Thanks for the detailed response. I wasn’t aware that customs was cracking down on manga imports; this is a pretty serious issue for fans, if not retailers. I hope they’ll make their actions more transparent in the future… barring that, it would be a useful public service if lists of the books that have been seized could be compiled for fans to know what they may be getting into when they order such items. Better to have a list of individual specific books than a climate of uncertainty surrounding imported eromanga as a whole, I think.
>>hirohisa4president
I didn’t doubt what you were saying, I just felt it was urgent to get as much detailed information as possible to understand the scope of the problem.
also to clarify I wasn’t saying jlist ero was carrying illegal stuff just saying some were pulled by customs in florida customs but of course the south has anti pr0n stance anyway so it may just be a fluke ^.^
