Editor’s Desk: Saturday in Akiba

I went down to Akihabara again this weekend, this time in pursuit of the guidebook for Wonder Festival 2007 Summer. Some pictures were taken along the way, presented below along with amusing anecdotes which you might like to read! Including: Nami SOS being molested by tentacles, Ruuuuuuuuuuu!, a creative use for Bust Emperors, Evangelion coffee, some very nice cosplay, and why you should never, ever carry a knife on you while you’re in Japan.

Figure News: Jingai Makyou serial novel featuring Ignis the Black, possible Makimoto-san PVC?

Back when we reported on the contents of the current issue of Hobby Japan, what we failed to mention was that along with HJ’s mail order offering of Ignis the Black a Jingai Makyou side story novel began serialization in the magazine as well. Yesterday Akiba Blog picked up that story and more, bringing news that “Makimoto-san“, a character appearing in the February 2006 initial novelization of the game, will be appearing in next month’s iteration of the story. While the Akiba Blog article only mentions that she’ll appear within the text of the serial novel, the side by side presentation of a photograph of Yume no Kagutsuchino Koukoku‘s Makimoto-san sculpt (along with her apparent disappearance from the sculptor’s site) raises the hope that we’ll see her incarnated in figure form at some point in the future. Pictures of novelized Ignis the Black and Makimoto-san below:

[ERO] Figure Review: Aoshima’s original Yamashita Shunya designed Funny Knights Rudy PVC

When word first came in April that model company Aoshima was branching out into the bishoujo figure business with a Yamashita Shunya-designed figure as its flagship title many of us were curious as to how a non-Kotobukiya, non-Yamato maker would handle his iconic designs. The results are in, and the answer appears to be: not too badly, for a first try.

Eroge News: Illusion announces Jinkou Shoujo 3, demo movie online

While I’ll admit to playing Illusion’s more recent polygon-based titles as something of a guilty pleasure, it was Jinkou Shoujo 2 back in the fall of 2004 that really impressed me with the potential of the medium. I’ve been waiting and hoping for a sequel since then, and word comes this evening that the the maker has finally pulled through: a demo movie described as being for their “newest title” is now available for download from Illusion’s official site, and shows two of the game’s (presumed) voice actresses walking the character through her customization stage. Unlike its predecessor the new game has many more customizable parameters, seeming to approach the level of flexibility of the Oblivion character generator. Needless to say this has me pretty darn excited… :3 I just hope they’ve fleshed out the AI and range of scenarios along with the character customization module. The tiny icon embedded in the game’s logo makes me hope that you’ll finally escape from the desert island of the second game and be able to engage in more regular daily life activities with your custom-made girlfriend… those looking for some bad writing can check out a review I did of the earlier game nearly three years ago, and there’s a screenshot from the new demo below:
