Today’s figure review comes courtesy of Wafuudou Ganguten and veteran sculptor Polygo, who took the trouble of going all the way to China to supervise production of this kit. While he made it back without being unceremoniously eaten by an alligator, did his hard work pay off when a parade of assembled Izumis followed him back to Japanese shores? That is the question!

Izumi is the headstrong, resentful member of the trio of heroines in Mattsuu and Asu Tsubaki‘s ecchi comedy manga, Kore ga Watashi no Goshujin-sama (He is My Master). While she is the oldest and most well-developed of the three girls she is also the most persecuted, frequently suffering torment at the hands of the protagonist, her sister’s pet alligator, and Kurauchi Anna, the yuri member of the trio. Several figures have been produced of all three heroines, but I’ve had my eye on this Polygo-sculpted one in particular ever since she went on sale as a garage kit at Wonder Festival Summer 2005; I was quite happy to learn that she’d be coming to us in PVC, and placed a preorder accordingly.
The Good
- Polygo’s sculpt is the highlight of this kit, bringing greater vitality and a more robust figure to Izumi’s character than the original designs ever managed to do, in my opinion. While retaining a faithful rendition of her face and general proportions he brings her to life in three dimensions with a gourmet, curvaceous delicacy that is a delight to behold.
- Layers of cast off potential are always appreciated, and the kit’s ability to look good in any of the variously aproned and skirted configurations possible is a strong selling point.
The Adequate
- Wafuudou’s reproduction occasionally falls short of the demands placed on it by Polygo’s exacting specifications. While the paint job on trim is never easy and it’s generally executed very well here, there are a few spots where sufficient masking could have prevented flecks of black or unevenness from spilling over the bounds of the lace and panties, especially in the rear. A pity, as the paint job is otherwise superb.
- While I can’t fault Polygo’s sculpt for the lines, curves, or impressive attention to detail, the kit could be more dynamic than its simple standing pose.
The Ugly
- Knowledge that wherever Izumi goes, that damned alligator is sure to be close behind… Just the thought is making me paranoid. -_- The third shoulder blade she has in the center of her back is a bit worrying, too.
Overall Score: 8.5/10
A solid kit marred only slightly by defects in the paint job and a somewhat bland pose, Polygo’s sculpting talent shines through regardless, making this an item I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to fans of both He is My Master and well crafted bishoujo figures in general. Keep an eye out for reptiles if you do choose to invest, though…
Looks better than expected. Too bad I couldn’t afford this and the Kousaka Tamaki Tsun-face I did order this month . . . .
[…] would a rollup be without a couple of reviews from my friends? Shingo pulled together Mirei-san and Sawatari Izumi. And Han-o-licious put forth effort… masturbatory effort… with his review of Arisugawa […]
Wow- this looks like a great PVC- I’m purchasing this from Toyslogic and didn’t know the skirting was removable back when I ordered. These pics re-enforce that I made a great choice when I decided to get it.
Awesome-looking figure, but it looks like she’s wearing panties over her garters. Isn’t it supposed to be the other way around?
Eh- depends on the woman- or the man….
either way- I am not gonna complain!
:)
I’ve collected all of the figures so far except this one, because it’s really off model in the face. It may be a great figure generally, but if I can’t identify it right away as Izumi, what’s the point? The other sets are much more recognizable as the characters. Still waiting for the other little ones to become available.
Waiting on the Princess Waltz series. :p
