News from the official Kiddy Grade site today that the original 24-part series from 2002 is to be cut together and condensed into three 80 to 90-minute theatrical releases, complete with new and revised scenes, slated for projection at Theatre Shinjuku between April and September 2007. Why do I get the feeling that this is just a vehicle to milk Hirano Aya‘s newfound stardom? Not that I’m complaining, mind you… In slightly older news, a pilot DVD for Kiddy Grade 2 will go on sale this spring at seven minutes and 2,940 yen. Details beyond this are scarce, but given the staff they’ve trotted out for it and the new designs on the page it can only point to a new series in the works, probably for broadcast later this year. (no more)
You get the feeling that the “director’s cut theatrical version” is a vehicle to milk Aaya’s stardom because that’s exactly what it is. And she probably can’t do anything about it, since they own the rights.
My own feeling is that everyone is trying to ride her stardom to riches and will cast her aside when (and if) it fades. I admire her talent and think her star will stay in the sky a long time, but I also think she is being pushed too hard, in the interest of the people who make money off her — and in her own short-term financial interest.
@ hashihime: Yes, we don’t want her going to the hospital again, do we?
I’m not trolling or anything, but KG was seriously one of the worst anime series I have ever watched…
Horribly mismatched music, ridiculously directionless plot that moved at a snail’s pace, uninteresting characters, and godawful character designs. I so regret paying money for it…
Dude…Agent Wax is seriously whack. I’m pretty sure you didn’t really watch the whole anime. You most likely did not even notice that most of the themes in Full Metal Alchemist was very similar to Kiddy Grade. Which mind you, FMA was one of the biggest success in anime history. Kiddy Grade had a wonderful plot, great twists, and each character had their own unique way of life. I don’t know what kind of drug you were taking while watching this series, but you need to rewatch it with more of an open mind and without the drugs.
First time I’ve ever heard a complaint about the music. The Kiddy Grade OSTs are among my favourites, the only music I’m not fond of is the military band/anthem type music at the start.
