Gift’s Saber, Saber Lion Nendoroid, Shunya’s Nasuka preorders open

A trio of Goodsmile-distributed figures from disparate makers were “unsealed” for preorder last night at midnight, and listings have since gone up at several shops around the internet. The first is the long-awaited Fate/stay night Saber from rookie Solid Theater splinter brand Gift. Sculpted with baroque intricacy by Toda Satoshi of Yume no Kagutsuchino Koukoku, the first lot release of the figure also comes with a limited edition exchangeable face part sculpted by Kuramoto Ikuma of Millimeter Modeling. The figure is scheduled for release in December at 1/8 scale (18 cm tall) and 7,800 yen retail.

The second newly available figure is this Saber Lion Nendoroid, from the Capcom PSP game Fate/tiger colosseum (sic). The sculpt is from Akemichi, and the figure is scheduled to retail in December at typical Nendoroid spec (10 cm tall, three exchangeable face parts and a variety of foods/weapons to feed the hungry Saber). Retail price is 3,000 yen.

Last but not least, preorders are now open for Lilics’ / Art Storm’s Yamashita Shunya Character Series Vol. 2, Nasuka. She’s also scheduled for December release, clocking in at 1/6 scale and 24 cm tall with a sculpt from PVC newcomer (?) Yamazaki Shigeru. Like Kanaru before her the series continues in a decidedly posterior-centric vein, and also like Kanaru she’s scheduled to retail at 7,800 yen.

Yamashita Shunya “nose art girl” PVC announced

I did a double take when I first read the title of the listing for Yamashita Shunya’s Nose Art girl figure at Getchu this morning, but a look at the source image makes it clear that the “nose” in question isn’t that of a creatively adorned human but rather a creatively adorned fighter plane. She originally appeared as a pinup poster in volume 4 of Ikaros Publishing’s MC Akushizu quarterly moe mecha/military magazine (she also appears in the recently released Wild Flower artbook).

The figure is 1/7 scale (22 cm tall) with production from goods maker Runa (Amiami search), and scheduled to retail at 7,140 yen in late September. Sample images reveal that she’s an upper body castoff, and she wields an optional 12.7 mm M2 Browning machine gun. The sculptor is uncredited in Getchu’s listing. Figure images below:

Artbook Review: Yamashita Shunya’s Wild Flower

Last month we were delighted to bring the announcement of Wild Flower, the second artbook collection of Yamashita Shunya’s illustration works (following Sweet Dreams, released almost three years ago). It arrived on store shelves today, and we managed to track down a copy before it disappeared and bring you this look inside. Needless to say, this is something Shunya fans aren’t going to want to miss:

Figure Review: Shuraki vol. 4 – Nida (Needa) Schuetlich

Volume four in the wildly popular series of Shuraki multimedia figures is in some respects a return to more familiar territory, as design duty for Nida was entrusted to the ubiquitous Yamashita Shunya. His designs have been adapted in figure form by just about every major PVC manufacturer in the past few years, but as the first Yamashita offering from Goodsmile there was curiosity regarding how the maker would handle the adaptation compared to those with longer track records. As we’ve come to expect with this series the result is very favorable indeed:

Yamashita Shunya’s Mirei gets busted

A preorder listing went up this afternoon at Kotobukiya’s Rakuten online shop for a polystone bust statue version of Yamashita Shunya‘s Mirei-san character, earlier released in PVC (HD review here). This new figure is being released as part of Kotobukiya’s “Art of Shunya Yamashita” bust lineup, and is similarly priced at 10,290 yen with release expected in September. She’s non-scale and stands 18.5 cm tall, with a sculpt from Arai Kousuke (Never Land). Images below:

Yamashita Shunya 2nd artbook announced

Online shop Getchu updated this evening with a product listing for an item that’s sure to turn a lot of heads: Yamashita Shunya’s newly announced second artbook, WILD FLOWER. This is the first visual collection of his work following the release of Sweet Dreams almost three years ago, and Getchu’s listing provides some tantalizing details: the book is the first print publication ever credited to figure maker Kotobukiya, with production from publisher Shinkigensha (know otherwise for their role playing sourcebooks and other geeky material). It’s scheduled for release on June 10th at 2,900 yen retail, A4 size, 128 pages and includes over 100 illustrations ranging from original work to figure designs and card game illustrations. Several sample images are presented, which are duplicated below:

Kotobukiya presents Yamashita Shunya’s Naomi

Figure maker Kotobukiya updated their online shop today with a listing for a new Art of Yamashita Shunya pre-painted cold cast bust figure, Naomi. She’s scheduled for release in August at 18.5 cm tall (non-scale) and 10,290 yen retail, with a sculpt from Ogasawara Taketo; the figure is nominally Kotobukiya shop limited but similar items have regularly been made available via international distribution outlets in the past, so we can expect her to appear for preorder elsewhere shortly. Image gallery below:

Figure Review: Yamashita Shunya’s Ayanami Rei

The combination of a Yoshizawa Mitsumasa sculpt and a Yamashita Shunya design is enough to evoke a Pavlovian drooling response in many figure collectors, myself among them. Formerly available exclusively in limited resin kit form, the announcement from Yamato at last summer’s Wonder Festival that the Yamashita / Yoshizawa team’s coproduced Ayanami Rei would be coming in PVC was incredibly welcome news. Following shortly on the heels of other significant Yamato releases last December Rei was lost in the shuffle here at HD, but we’re happy to finally be able to bring you a review of this great figure!

Yamashita Shunya Arisugawa Shii, Angela busts from Kotobukiya

I noticed these on Play-Asia last night (Arisugawa Shii, Angela) so the news isn’t completely fresh, but Kotobukiya has posted entries for its “shop limited” Art of Yamashita Shunya cold cast busts Angela and Arisugawa Shii at their Rakuten online shop today. They’re due out in June at 10,290 yen each, non-scale (18 cm tall), and of the two only Shii is credited with a sculptor (Ogasawara Taketo). If you think you’ve seen her before, you’re right; this is Shii’s second appearance in Kotobukiya’s Yamashita lineup (the first was released last May). (no more)

Figure News: Yamato announces alternate color Arisa, Bubblegum Crisis Moto Slave + Priss

Figure maker Yamato updated their official site today with listing for two new figures: first, an alternate color version of their Creator’s Labo #014 guitar girl Arisa (HD review of the original). This version is due out in May, at 7,140 yen and specs similar to the original. The second new item up is is a Priss / Moto Slave action figure set from Bubblegum Crisis. The set is 1/15 scale, with the bike 14 cm long (15 cm tall in Motoroid form) and the Priss figure 11 cm tall. Both are fully articulated and come with option parts (check out the “photozoomer” images for details on the various configurations), and the set retails in May at 7,140 yen. (no more)

Figure News: Art of Yamashita Shunya Karin, Noel up for preorder

As L.C predicted in a reply to the recent March ’08 Hobby Japan post, the two latest entries in Kotobukiya’s Art of Yamashita Shunya series are entitled Karin (preorder page) and Noel (preorder page). These two busts join Niniane in the polystone Shunya lineup from Kotobukiya, and are scheduled to retail in May at 10,290 yen each (non-scale, 17.5 cm tall). Both are a limited run of 500 units, and are limited to sale via the Kotobukiya online shop only (though I have a hunch they’ll appear via other retailers internationally as well, if Niniane is any indication). Pictures below:

Figure News: Kotobukiya’s Artwork of Yamashita Shunya Niniane preorder up, etc. (updated)

While checking Play Asia‘s listings today to update our figure release schedule I came across a puzzling item: a cold cast figure described as “The Art of Shunya Yamashita Fine Art Bust Cold Cast Statue: Niniane“. It’s a roughly 1/8 scale cold cast bust (15 cm tall, 18 with sword) retailing at 9,710 yen on the PA site, with release scheduled for next April; I’m not sure if this is a limited edition item, a non-Japan release, or even whether it’s legitimate at all, but I’ve seen neither hide nor hair of it beyond the Play Asia site so a mystery she shall remain for now. It’s supposedly from Kotobukiya, so we’ll be keeping an eye out for news from that quarter… other newly updated items can be found below. Update: see below for the evening’s figure take, and a first look at Daiki Kougyou’s Shiranui Mai castoff:

Figure News: Tecmo’s Yamashita Shunya-designed Dead or Alive Kasumi prize figure gallery online

A puzzle presents itself today in the form of this pair of Yamashita Shunya designed DOA Kasumi prize figures with a gallery newly up at Tecmo’s online shop. I’d swear up and down that they’re the same figures we first scooped back in May, and I have the original design illustrations to prove it; however those are listed as coming out this month at 2,520 yen for the pair, while the new ones up at Tecmo are listed at 6,090 yen for the pair and due out in February. Not only that, the ones from May are listed at 18 cm tall, while these new ones are 20 cm. I find it hard to believe that they could be different items with the exact same design, but stranger things have happened… we’ll be keeping an eye out for more information as it comes to light. Either way, if you can find the set for the original 2,520 yen at this point it seems like a steal. Gallery reproduced below:

Figure News: Kaiyodo’s Revoltech Fraeulein Pocco (Yamashita Shunya Sweet Dreams cover girl) up for preorder

Yamashita Shunya‘s Kaiyodo Revoltech Fraeulein Sweet Dreams cover girl Pocco action figure is now up for preorder at Play Asia! Japanese sites haven’t officially picked her up yet, but it seems Play Asia is hedging their bets that Kaiyodo will be able to stick to their production schedule of one Fraeulein per month starting on January first with Evangelion’s Rei. February and March will see Fate’s Tousaka Rin and Eva’s Asuka respectively, with Pocca coming in April; Rei retails at an introductory price of 2,000 yen with the other three clocking in at 2,300 each. We first found out about Pocca back at the Revoltech Expo on November 30th, and expect the Fraeulein lineup to continue with a couple of the Idolm@ster girls in spots five and six. See below for further details:

[ERO] Figure Review: Yamato’s Yamashita Shunya designed, Cerberus Project (Sunny Day) sculpted, Creators’ Labo CL#014 Guitar Girl Arisa PVC

Cerberus Project’s guitar girl Arisa is a kit I’d been lusting after since I first saw her in resin at Wonder Festival Winter 2006, so when news came last July that Yamato was going to produce a PVC rendition of her the extent of my chortling glee can scarcely be underestimated. I’ve been in high tension mode ever since, wondering just how Yamato would treat her – fears that I am very happy to say were largely needless. Read on for a look at what turns out to be one of the loveliest kits of the year.

Figure News: Yamashita Shunya meets Fraeulein Revoltech

Kaiyodo is holding a Revoltech Expo this Saturday, December 1st, from 11:00 – 19:00 o’clock in Akihabara’s Tokyo Anime Center. Admission is free, and the official Revoltech Blog has been hyping all the new Revoltech swag on they’ll have on display leading up to the event. Today they tipped their hand on one particularly delicious item, Fraeulein Revoltech vol. 04 Heppoko Onna Senshi Pokko (pictured on the lower right). Despite only having access to her rear at this point the design looks terribly familiar, and confirmation comes in the word that it is from the inimitable Yamashita Shunya. I’m not a tremendous fan of the recent boom in bishoujo action figures, but I’m definitely curious to see what this one is all about… we can expect further news come the event on Saturday. Update: Eggfoo notes in comments that the girl pictured is in fact the cover girl from Yamashita Shunya’s Sweet Dreams artbook. No wonder she looked so familiar… (no more)

Figure News: Yamato’s Guitar Girl Arisa and high kick Hakufu, Movic’s Matsu now on sale

According to their product listings, Yamato‘s Yamashita Shunya designed, Cerberus Project sculpted [ERO] Guitar Girl Arisa and their [ERO] Story Image Figure Sonsaku Hakufu (high kick ver.) are both in stock and shipping now! Buying via these links is a great chance to pick them up if you haven’t snagged them via preorder yet, and you can support HD in the process. Akibajin blog is reporting today as well that Movic‘s Sekirei Matsu figure is now on store shelves (and just arrived here, in fact – expect a review later tonight or tomorrow morning). More whoredom / news below:

Figure News: Goodsmile’s Shuraki Needa PVC up for preorder

As of midnight tonight, November 27th, the fourth volume of Goodsmile / Red Entertainment‘s collaborative multimedia figure series Shuraki is now up for preorder! Volume 4 features the Yamashita Shunya-designed Needa as voiced by Chiba Saeko and embodied in a sculpt from Hagii Shunshi of Studio Saru Bunshitsu, and is likely to invoke a similar rush to preorder as her earlier peers Mishiro, Meifeng, and Shall, so haste is advised for those interested in picking her up. Good luck to all combatants as we enter the fray! (no more)

[ERO] Figure News: Aoshima’s Funny Knights Masterpiece of Yamashita Shunya No. 2 Petra PVC up for preorder

Amiami’s noon updated today featured the surprise preorder listing of Aoshima‘s Funny Knights Masterpiece of Yamashita Shunya No. 2 Petra PVC figure. As we reported last month she is indeed castoffable, and is scheduled to retail in mid-February of ’08 at 1/7 scale (30 cm tall – staff included) and 7,140 yen. As was the case with Rudy and Cream Coru-nee before her Petra is the work of sculptor Modeler-T, who has a better shot of Petra on his site than the one currently up at Amiami (see below). I’m wavering on this one… probably going to hold off on a preorder until Amiami has their full gallery up.

Figure Review: Movic’s Cocona PVC (Yamashita Shunya original)

We first brought news of Cocona when she appeared at Hobby Stock on August 10th, and in the remarkably short turnaround time of two and a half months from announcement to release she was here on the doorstep at the end of October. I wasn’t interested in Movic’s first Shunya-designed figure Rosanna, but Cocona’s design really appealed to me so I decided to take the plunge; despite the lack of castoff or other gimmicks she’s a decent item, though not in the top rank of stuff we’ve seen from Yamashita in the past.

[ERO] Figure News: Yamato updates with guitar girl Arisa details

Figure maker Yamato put up a page on their official site today detailing the goodies that come in the box with their Creator’s Labo #014 Arisa PVC figure. Designed by the intrepid Yamashita Shunya and sculpted by Sunny Day of circle Cerberus Project, Yamato’s post gives a better look at the kit’s option parts including her blouse, garters, skirt, glasses, and guitar. It seems like they’re really putting a lot of effort into this one, and I can’t wait to see her in the flesh plastic… it seems I’m not the only one thinking this, as she’s sold out in preorder at Play Asia already (though still available at J-List). Release is expected later this month. (no more)

Figure News: Movic’s Sekirei Tsukiumi, Yamashita Shunya Cocona now on sale

Just a quick heads up that Movic’s [ERO] Tsukiumi PVC figure from Sekirei [Play Asia] and their original Yamashita Shunya designed Cocona figure [Play Asia] [J-List] both shipped to retailers yesterday. Mine should be coming in tonight and I’ll be reviewing them here in the next day or two (still working on Clalaclan and Fasalina), but those waffling on the purchase might want to act fast, as I’m guessing Tsukiumi especially will be gone from shelves with alarming speed. You can help HD out by ordering from the links above should you so desire~. (no more)

Figure News: 2007 Plamo / Radicon Show update

Moeyo has posted further details regarding the bishoujo figures on display at the 2007 Plastic Model and Radicon Show currently happening at Makuhari Messe in Tokyo. A quick roundup: Yamashita Shunya‘s Petra is coming from Aoshima‘s Funny Knights line in February of ’08, and appears at least partially castoffable. The Range Murata-designed Character Design Bible vol. 03 Cover Girl PVC is coming from Beagle on May 1st, 2008 at 7,140 yen retail. Kotobukiya’s Lei Fang is coming in January at 1/6 scale and 8,190 yen retail, in two versions: regular and Tecmo shop limited. Both come with interchangeable swimsuit parts. Kotobukiya’s To Heart 2 Another Days Yamada Michiru is coming in January at 4,725 yen, along with their Another Days Konomi (maid ver.) at 5,040 yen. (no more)

[ERO] Figure News: Kotobukiya’s Yamashita Shunya-designed Shouko-san PVC is castoffable

Feeling like a broken record here… Once again we turn to Moeyo! Akibajin blog for the inside scoop: according to their coverage, not only is the Kotobukiya shop limited, Yamashita Shunya designed Shouko-san‘s top removable but this is the first time in Kotobukiya’s history that they’ve fully painted everything underneath. Though typical Moeyo censorship prevents us from determining this for ourselves there’s no reason to disbelieve the assertion, and this may make what was otherwise a rather bland entry into Kotobukiya’s Shunya series rather more desirable (though not quite enough for me to justify an order at 7,350 yen, especially given the awkward-looking castoff). Regardless, here’s hoping this trend continues with future figures in the Yamashita line! (no more)

[ERO] Figure News: Yamato’s Cerberus Project sculpted, Yamashita Shunya designed guitar girl Arisa PVC confirmed as castoffable

Moeyo! Akibajin Blog has a sample review up today of the Creator’s Labo CL #014 Arisa PVC figure from Yamato that we’ve been following since the end of July, and it brings good tidings: her top has been crafted as a clean castoff. Leave it to Moeyo to be a tease with the censored shots as usual, but this confirmation hopefully means they’ll be paying attention to the appropriate details beneath her shirt. In other Arisa news, Yamato has a page up on their official site detailing her production with some nice Yamashita-illustrated details and close up shots of the kit. This release just keeps looking better and better… :3 You can support HD by preordering her at Play Asia or J-List. (no more)

Figure News: Yamato’s Poison and guitar girl Arisa up for preorder

T.J GrosNet posted preorder listings late last night for two Yamato figures we’ve been tracking recently: firstly their Capcom Girls Collection Poison 1/6 scale (27.5 cm tall) PVC figure, sculpted by Yoshizawa Mitsumasa and due out in November; secondly, the Yamashita Shunya designed, Cerberus Project sculpted Creator’s Labo CL#014 Arisa (known in her resin kit incarnation as “Rickenbacker and girl”, seems they couldn’t wrangle the Rick copyright for this figure, alas). She’s due out in November as well, at 7,140 yen retail and 24 cm in height. With both of these figures up at T.J we can expect other online shops to follow suit shortly, probably sometime later today. (no more)

Wonder Festival 2007 Summer: ero~i PVC news roundup

We wrap up our coverage of Wonder Festival 2007 Summer today (other than the trip report, which may end up coming next week) with a quick look at some of the other PVC releases that we’ll be looking forward to over the coming months. Wondering about that second Musubi from Movic, or what Bome’s next release will be? How about that bizarre new Max Factory Polo System kit? We’ve got you covered.

Wonder Festival 2007 Summer: garage kits galore

Everything that wouldn’t fit elsewhere in our Wonder Festival resin coverage is here, with kits ranging from originals to a wide variety of anime, manga, and game sources (Monster Hunter, Narue no Sekai, Juuden-chan, Ah! My Goddess, Kaibutsu Oujo, Idolmaster, Majipoka, Zero no Tsukaima, Kodomo no Jikan, AIKa 16, Yoake, Paniponi Dash, Range Murata, Venus vs. Virus, My Otome, Tokikake, Xenosaga, Muv Luv, Read or Die, Touhou, Littlewitch, Jigoku Shoujo, Nanoha, Witchblade, Genshiken, Manabi Straight, School Days, Keroro Gunsou, Super Robot Wars, Utawarerumono, Persona 3, Pumpkin Scissors, Ichigo Mashimaro, Fate / stay night, Simoun, Bakuretsu Tenshi, Onegai Teacher, Sayonara Zetsubou-sensei, Card Captor Sakura, Black Lagoon, Ikkitousen, Ouran Host Club, 009-1, and more!). Nothing explicitly ero, though several rather ecchi kits did make the cut; there are 269 pictures total, so please bear with the load time. ^^;;

Figure News: Movic presents Yamashita Shunya’s Kokona, in PVC

Hobby Stock just put a preorder listing up for a new Yamashita Shunya designed PVC figure, dubbed Kokona. She’s coming from Movic in October at 6,090 yen retail, 25 cm tall (1/7 scale?), with sculpting duty handled by Ishida Eiichi of studio DRESS; I was surprised to see this listing today as in the past couple of years Yamashita has consistently announced new figures on his blog before they appear anywhere else, but as a fan of his work I’m happy to see a maker finally branch out into the fantasy side of his portfolio. Pictures below:

[ERO] Figure Review: Aoshima’s original Yamashita Shunya designed Funny Knights Rudy PVC

When word first came in April that model company Aoshima was branching out into the bishoujo figure business with a Yamashita Shunya-designed figure as its flagship title many of us were curious as to how a non-Kotobukiya, non-Yamato maker would handle his iconic designs. The results are in, and the answer appears to be: not too badly, for a first try.
