Orchid Seed’s Shiori to ship with soft chest part

A potential reason for the long production delay on Orchid Seed’s Witchblade Tsuzuki Shiori figure was revealed today in an Akiba Hobby review of her finished PVC sample. According to visual evidence and accompanying text she’ll be shipping with an exchangeable “soft chest part”, presumably similar to Chichinoe+ 2 Young Hip Cover Gal (which was also delayed in a similar fashion). This is potentially both a plus and a minus, as it means her upper body is not cast from a single piece – resulting in seams such as the one visible here. Still, based on this review I’m happy with her presentation overall and can’t wait to see her in person later this month! (no more)

Figure News: Toranoana’s Witchblade transformed Masane, Shiori up for preorder

Amiami snuck a late update in tonight, presenting at long last a pair of Witchblade PVCs from Toranoana that we’ve had our eye on here since August: Masane and Shiori. Both are due out in early February at 1/10 scale and 5,040 yen each; sculpt is from Koyama Kou, who seems to have done some work for Namco in the past and had a kit featured at Wonder Festival but is otherwise under the radar. Based on the sample images I’m a bit skeptical of the quality on these, but the price is certainly reasonable; along with Orchid Seed’s Shiori these may be the last Witchblade kits we ever see, so here’s hoping Tora can do them justice. Artbook Review: UNO! ~ Uno Makoto Artworks

Former god of futanari doujinshi, current god of anime character design Uno Makoto presents his first compiled volume of illustrations in the newly released UNO! artbook. When the news first came to us at the beginning of November I was overjoyed at the prospect of getting a book that would include not only his past material but also work on the currently airing Dragonaut series; with its pretense to comprehensiveness I was hoping that this would be a volume similar in scope to other artbooks we’ve recently reviewed here, but after looking it over I’m sorry to report decidedly mixed results:

Figure News: Orchid Seed’s Shiori enters full preorder, amaloli Ryofu Housen announced; Q-six’s Linda kit sells out

After her unveiling yesterday on Orchid’s official site we assumed it would only be a matter of (short) time before her preorder became widely available, and it seems we were right: Hobby Stock has a preorder listing up today for Orchid Seed’s Tsuzuki Shiori (bikini ver.) PVC figure, with other shops presumed to follow shortly. I’ll be watching Amiami like a hawk… In other news from Orchid, they’ve announced a new “amaloli” color version of their recently released gothic lolita Ryofu Housen PVC figure. This pink dress version is apparently limited to sale via wholesale supplier Shinpo, and release is expected in the spring (preorders close on January 25th) at 6,800 yen retail. On the garage kit side of things, the Linda-designed Q-Six resin kit we reported on earlier this month went up for preorder and back down again with astonishing speed, with the first wave of production shipping on the 28th. Horribly color-reduced GIF images of the [ERO] kit can be found here. We’ll be on the lookout for further news on all of these items as it comes to light. (no more)

Figure News: Orchid Seed’s Tsuzuki Shiori (bikini ver.) PVC from Witchblade up for preorder

I’ll be damned if the news doesn’t just keep coming tonight… Figure maker Orchid Seed has just put up an official page and preorder listing for their prodigiously endowed Tsuzuki Shiori (bikini ver.) PVC figure from Witchblade that we’ve been tracking here for the past few weeks! As previously reported she is scheduled for release in March of next year at 6,800 yen, 1/7 scale (revised downward from 1/6), and 23 cm tall. The sculpt is from Orchid regular Ishiyama Satoshi, and based on the visual information thus far her castoff status is still in limbo; here’s hoping. She does come with a replaceable mutant arm, which is kinda cool… Orchid’s gallery reproduced below:

Figure News: Hobby Japan January 2008 leftovers

We’ve already scooped the bulk of what was new in this month’s issue of Hobby Japan, but after getting my hands on an actual copy of the magazine last night I noticed a few other odds and ends that might be of interest. Includes updates from Witchblade, Kimikiss, Code Geass, Queen’s Blade, Bible Black, and Nitro+ character designer Niθ; details below:

Figure News: January ’08 Hobby Japan preview

Hot on the heels of this morning’s Hatsune Miku Nendoroid leak comes further scoopage from the as-yet unpublished pages of the January ’08 issue of Hobby Japan magazine! On the Queen’s Blade front we get our first look at Megahouse’s Shizuka in color (scooped back at Wanfesu), along with the news that she’s due out next spring at 5,775 yen and is castoffable. We get looks beneath the clothing of both Airi and Nix as well, with Nix revealed as a lower castoff. We have word that an Izuruha figure will accompany a box set release of the four volumes of Ru Li Lu Ra manga (details in the next HJ issue). Word from Goodsmile as well that they’re producing a Kuonji Shinra figure from Kimigashu (no details yet), and a look at the MMS Yoko action figure coming from Konami in December. Last but not least we have Akashiya Moka from Rosario to Vampire coming from Shueisha on May 23rd at 5,000 yen, and what for me is the heart-stopping revelation of the issue: the Orchid Seed Ishiyama Satoshi-sculpted Witchblade Shiori kit scooped at the Miyazawa Model Exhibition is coming out in resin at Hobby Complex 02 this Sunday, November 25th. Holding my breath until the PVC announcement… visual evidence below:

Goods News: Uno Makoto artbook illustration compilation “UNO!” to be released on November 30th

My hands are shaking as I type this, trying to restrain the complex yet primal web of emotions surging forth at the news that anime character design god Uno Makoto has produced a compiled volume of his illustrations set for release from Shueisha on November 30th. Dubbed “UNO!” the book (ISBN 13: 978-4-08-782160-4) will retail at 2,800 yen and feature illustration work from recent anime he has designed, including Dragonaut, Witchblade, and Uchuu no Stellvia. The page count and format are still unknown, but Mangaoh has a preorder page up and Amazon should soon as well. Thanks to cortana for the orgasm-inducing promotional image below! Update: it seems Shueisha has an official page up to promote the book, according to which it will be A4 size and contain an A3-size original poster as well as a complete collection of his Newtype column art. Figure News: Toranoana’s Witchblade Tsuzuki Shiori (transformed ver.) PVC sample up

Moeyo! Akibajin Blog posted photos of a sample version of Toranoana’s Tsuzuki Shiori (transformed ver.) PVC figure from Witchblade, which was on display today in Akihabara’s Toranoana store #1. This may be the same sample as the one on display at Wonder Festival this past summer, and price and release date are still unknown; no real news here other than a nice close-up look at the sculpt. I’m kind of digging it in spite of myself, though I’d like to see a kit of the untransformed Shiori as well. Edit: Moeyo has shots of Tora’s new Masane (transformed ver.) PVC up today too, but same deal – no details as of yet. (no more)

Figure Review: Alter’s Amaha Masane (Witchblade powered up ver.) PVC from Witchblade

As a diehard fan of Uno Makoto’s designs and his recent work on Witchblade in particular I’ve been trying to snap up related figures whenever possible, and with Alter’s reputation for quality their take on heroine Masane’s ultimate Witchblade transformation was too tempting to pass up. How does she rate next to Kotobukiya’s version of the same subject? Not too shabbily at all…

Figure News: pages up for Saber / Zero, Swimsuit Masane and Rihoko, and Pani Poni Dash trading figures

A bunch of great figure news in this morning, mostly confirming earlier scoops: Goodsmile represents first with an official page for Max Factory’s December release Saber / Zero from Fate / Zero, then online shop Sorio with a preorder page for the October-release Toranoana swimsuit ver. Masane and Rihoko from Witchblade that we scooped a week or so ago; Kotobukiya rounds things off with official notice and promo material for their December release Pani Poni Dash trading figure set. Edit: the preorders are already going up at Amiami, so activity should be starting elsewhere soon as well. Pictures below:

Bishoujo Goods News: Hobby Stock original Witchblade Masane x Shiori hug pillow up for preorder

Japanese figure and characters goods shop Hobby Stock has just put up a preorder page for an exclusive “transcendently sexy” hug pillow featuring the characters Masane and Shiori from the Witchblade TV anime. Both illustrations are original work commissioned from Kaneko Hiraku, creator of Queen’s Blade character Cattleya and elusive head animator of G-on Riders as well as episodes of Aquarian Age, Bakuretsu Tenshi, Shakugan no Shana, Witchblade itself, and the most memorable scene from Godannar ever (in my humble opinion). Needless to say I preordered this on sight… ^^;; Those with similar proclivities outside Japan may have to resort to a proxy service, as this appears to be an item limited to sale via Hobby Stock only. Figure Review: Kotobukiya’s Amaha Masane (Witchblade powered up ver.) PVC from Witchblade

I went on a Witchblade figure preordering binge a couple of months ago that in retrospect was perhaps unwarranted, though with each subsequent review I find myself oddly satisfied – as long as the sculptors keep showing their love for Uno Makoto’s superlative designs I’ll be happy to support them. Today’s entry was the biggest preorder risk yet, an expensive 1/6 scale Kotobukiya offering from a sculptor known previously for his work on monsters, not bishoujo figures. How does Masane fare in this first treatment of her “powered up” version? Pretty damn well, I think, but you be the judge…
