Shuraki vol. 6 confirmed

HD reader Kent posted a comment to our Shuraki Rize review this evening with a link to an image at Akiba Hobby that confirms what we’d suspected: The next entry in the Shuraki figure multimedia series will be Monica Dread Olivier, the White Raven companion of Nida and Rize. No release date or other information is listed, though it’s noteworthy to see that according to the promotional poster in the Akiba Hobby photo the character designer may have changed (the illustration is from Jun・K/Sumi Keiichi, not Igarashi Aki as per the original). We’ll keep an eye out for further details (and I’ll try to remember what event that photo is from…). (no more)

Figure Review: Shuraki vol. 5 – Rizfis (Rize) Luttiva Mente

The first round of the explosively popular Shuraki multimedia figure series concludes with the appearance of Rize, Italian Shuraki and member of the mysterious White Raven organization. Armed with a massive halberd and clad in a diaphanous blue gown, her design is surely a match for any of her predecessors – but how does she compare in figure form? Read on for the final installment in our Shuraki review series (until the second batch is announced):

Figure Review: Shuraki vol. 4 – Nida (Needa) Schuetlich

Volume four in the wildly popular series of Shuraki multimedia figures is in some respects a return to more familiar territory, as design duty for Nida was entrusted to the ubiquitous Yamashita Shunya. His designs have been adapted in figure form by just about every major PVC manufacturer in the past few years, but as the first Yamashita offering from Goodsmile there was curiosity regarding how the maker would handle the adaptation compared to those with longer track records. As we’ve come to expect with this series the result is very favorable indeed:

Figure Review: Shuraki vol. 3 – Char (Shall) Rhousemann

Our Shuraki figure review series continues in this third installment featuring French-themed villainess Char Rhousemann. The Shuraki frenzy that consumed figure fans through much of 2007 had cooled somewhat by the time she came out in January of this year, but with Needa recently released and Rize coming at the end of the month it’s high time to get back into the thick of things. Check out our Mishiro Akatsuki and Riu Meifeng reviews first (if you haven’t already, or need a refresher on what the Shuraki series is), and then continue the saga with our look at the contents of Char’s multimedia package:

Figure News: Shuraki vol. 5 Rize preorder “unsealed” tonight

The fifth and final volume of the Shuraki multimedia figure series goes up for preorder tonight (December 17th) at midnight! Rizefis Rutetiiva Mente (aka. Rize) was designed by Yano Takumi, voiced by Shintani Ryouko, and sculpted by Kaiya Hajime of circle Acetone. Like vols. 2-4 she will be priced at 6,800 yen retail, with release scheduled for April of next year; with reissues already announced for the first two volumes it’s expected that the rabid preorder frenzy that has plagued her predecessors will abate somewhat for Rize, but the next 24 hours will tell for sure… (no more)

Figure News: Shuraki vol. 5 Rize preorder date set, Meifeng second round preorders begin

A couple bits of Shuraki news today: first is the word that Shuraki vol. 5 Rize is scheduled to be “unsealed” on December 18th, according to the Shuraki official site. She marks the end of the first set of five multimedia figure installments, and though explosive sales are expected as usual, fan and retailer fatigue along with the expectation of an eventual reissue mean that the rush to buy will probably be less pronounced than for past offerings. We’ll be keeping an eye on the launch when it comes around next week. In other news, today Goodsmile officially acknowledged what we’ve known since last month: Shuraki vol. 2 Meifeng is being reissued next April. In response to this several online stores have been dumping remaining stock of the kit that they’d normally let trickle out (notably Amazon and Amiami), a sign that preorders are just around the corner; Moe Soul takes the lead with preorders officially beginning at six o’clock this evening. Figure News: Shuraki roundup – high res Needa, Meifeng reissue, Rize release date

Online shop Infinity Wonderland posted their Needa preorder last night, and along with it a gallery of high resolution images of the kit (reproduced below). She’s looking great! Of greater import in the listing however is the news that Shuraki vol. 2 Meifeng is scheduled for an April 2008 reissue, and Shuraki vol. 5 Rize is due out in April as well. This should put fears to rest of those unable to get Meifeng when she was first released earlier this month. Images below:

Figure News: Goodsmile’s Shuraki Needa PVC up for preorder

As of midnight tonight, November 27th, the fourth volume of Goodsmile / Red Entertainment‘s collaborative multimedia figure series Shuraki is now up for preorder! Volume 4 features the Yamashita Shunya-designed Needa as voiced by Chiba Saeko and embodied in a sculpt from Hagii Shunshi of Studio Saru Bunshitsu, and is likely to invoke a similar rush to preorder as her earlier peers Mishiro, Meifeng, and Shall, so haste is advised for those interested in picking her up. Good luck to all combatants as we enter the fray! (no more)

Figure Review: Goodsmile’s Shuraki vol. 2 – Riu (Liu) Meifeng

The multimedia figure series that earlier this year redefined the scope of the figure otaku feeding frenzy is back in its second installment! Shuraki vol. 2 brings the incredibly cute Riu (Liu) Meifeng to the fore, in yet another dynamite combination of character design, sculpting and voice acting talent. How does she compare to the series’ first installment, Akatsuki Mishiro? I’d say incredibly well, but pictures speak louder than words:

Figure News: Hatsune Miku Nendoroid, Shuraki Needa preorder dates confirmed

Just a quick note before running off to Comic Creation: according to online shop Digitamin preorders for the Hatsune Miku Nendoroid (scooped yesterday) are scheduled to officially open at midnight on November 26th, with preorder opening for Shuraki series #4 Needa on the 27th. The Miku preorder is also hinted at in an official email to stores from Goodsmile, which says there will be a special announcement occurring on Nico Video at 24:00 o’clock on the 25th (midnight of the 26th)… A feeding frenzy is expected to surround both kits, so we’ll be watching for further preorder information as it is forthcoming. Figure News Roundup: Saber Alter, Shuraki, Win-chan, Manaka cold cast

A few updates on figures we’ve been covering over the past few days: Solid Theater’s Saber Alter is now up at the maker’s official site, up at Goodsmile, and up for preorder. More interesting is the news that she is 1/8 scale, but she was resculpted based on a 1/10 kit (see the lowest picture in that entry). She retails in March at 6,800 yen (ouch) with a sculpt from Toda Satoshi. In Shuraki news, Vol. 2 Riu Meifeng shipped from Goodsmile yesterday and is shipping from wholesalers today. Vol. 4 Needa was also updated today with a first look at the interior of the artbook that accompanies her – very tasty stuff. Finally, the new Win-chan we mentioned earlier today is now up for preorder in both regular and limited edition colors, and New Line has a preorder listing up for a Komaki Manaka cold cast (March release, 1/6 scale, 24 cm tall, 14,490 yen retail) that justice demands see a PVC release at half the price. Justice! (no more)

Figure News: Goodsmile presents a first look at Solid Theater’s Saber Alter, Shuraki #4

Toda Satoshi’s (Yume no Kagutsuchino Koukoku) Solid Theater produced, Goodsmile disributed Saber Alter arrived at Goodsmile’s offices today, according to the official Goodsmile blog. It features the fanatical attention to detail at a remarkably small scale that made his Kazeko kit so popular (with me at least), and unless my eyes are broken this time as well I’d say she’ll be a very popular item (who can resist a kit that looks like a cross between Saber and Diablo?). With her in Goodsmile hands we can expect preorders up soon. In other news from Goodsmile, Needa, the Yamashita Shunya designed fourth entry to the Shuraki multimedia figure series, has a color prototype of her kit online as well – complete with 360° rotating video. I’m really digging the zettai ryouiki on this one… :3 (no more)

Figure Review: Goodsmile’s Shuraki vol. 1 – Mishiro Akatsuki

The cause of preorder frenzy and subsequent despair for those unable to hit the refresh button in the five seconds they were available, the first entry in the much-hyped Shuraki line finally hit store shelves (albeit very briefly) last week. I was able to snag a copy, and I have to say the franchise’s first multimedia figure offering is a very nice item indeed. She’s not without a couple of flaws however, which we’ll address in the review below:

Figure News: Shuraki vol. 1, Nendoroid Yuki N., Nendoroid Yasagure Rin get reissued, Max Factory announces Kanon’s Sawatari Makoto

Big news today from Goodsmile! Word is in that Shuraki vol. 1 Akatsuki Mishiro, Nendoroid Nagato Yuki, and Nendoroid Yasagure Rin will all see reissues in early 2008. In addition, Goodsmile has a listing up for Max Factory‘s Sawatari Makoto PVC figure from Kanon. She’s set to retail in February of next year at 1/8 scale (17.5 cm tall) and 5,800 yen, with a sculpt from Max’s own Koshinuma Masashi. Great news for the Kanon fans, and for those who missed Mishiro and Yuki (HD review) in the first round of preorders! (no more)
