Queen’s Gate Shiranui Mai combat artbook announced

The Queen’s Gate lineup was augmented yesterday with the announcement both on the series’ official site as well as online shop listings of the coming release of a Shiranui Mai combat artbook! The buxom heroine of the King of Fighters / Fatal Fury game series will be illustrated by Izumi Mahiru, doujin artist and eroge character designer of titles including Light’s R.U.R.U.R. The book will be in the standard Queen’s Blade format (64 pages, hardcover, full color) and is scheduled for release on October 31st. Cover image below:

Queen’s Blade anime announced

The two latest Queen’s Blade combat artbooks hit store shelves yesterday (Allean and Ardra), and with them the news that the Queen’s Blade franchise is scheduled for TV anime adaptation! Other than the bare fact that it’s in the works little is known about the project, but based on Hobby Channel’s official announcement it’s hinted that Reina will be the protagonist. This in turn leads to all sorts of wild speculation – with the shared character designer, can we expect animation from the My-HiME team? Hobby Japan is a Bandai property, Sunrise is a Bandai property, it’s not entirely out of the question… we’ll follow up on this as soon as further information is made known. (no more)

Limited edition Shizuka now in stock

Otherwise only available via mail order from Hobby Japan magazine, Alpha Omega’s Excellent Model CORE Queen’s Blade Shizuka (limited edition) is now in stock at Play-Asia. This is likely one of the few opportunities to obtain the figure without paying obscene markups at auction, so those interested who weren’t able to place preorders earlier have another chance now. She’s likely only available in very limited quantity, so quick action is advised if you don’t want to miss out.

Our review of the regular edition Shizuka can be found here. (no more)

Medicos launches second Queen’s Blade bust collection

Announced shortly after the original set went on sale (review pending), news on the second series of Medicom’s Chouzou Queen’s Blade Collection Figures has been sparse since last fall. An update over at the official Medicos blog breaks the long silence with a photo of the set’s Echidna prototype, and the news that she’ll be accompanied by Tomoe and Menace when released this coming October. The Tomoe and Menace prototypes will debut in Hobby Japan magazine; we’ll be keeping an eye out for them along with further news on this set as it becomes available. Image below:

Figure Review: Alpha Omega Queen’s Blade Shizuka

When we first saw her in prototype at Wonder Festival last summer and later learned of her castoff potential, a preorder was mandated by some sort of federal law. With two of the top figure makers in the business collaborating on the project and a price that shouts rude epithets at the rising cost of oil (not to mention her demonic good looks), who could possibly resist Shizuka’s allure? Not me, which is why I am making this post:

Megahouse lists QB Mellona, QG Arisu, Capcomaniax Ibuki, Mika (updated)

April 23rd, 2008 Update: Full listings for the four figures are now online at Megahouse’s official site:

Figure Review: Excellent Model CORE Queen’s Blade P-5 Cattleya

When Cattleya was first announced as part of the Megahouse Excellent Model Queen’s Blade lineup last September I was overjoyed. Given her ponderous dimensions and niche fetish appeal I thought her inclusion in the series would be unlikely, but it seems someone with decision-making power at Megahouse HQ recognized the appeal of her monumental design for what it was, and decided that justice must be done. The justice ended up so great that it could hardly be contained by Cattleya’s 120-cm bust, so I give fair warning – if the prospect of such developed womanly attributes makes you less than excited this review is not for you. Otherwise, read on for more gushing fanboyism than is probably appropriate:

Follow up on Hobby Figures’ Mugen, Queen’s Blade, etc.

French hobby news site Hobby-News has conducted an interview (in both French and English) with recently launched figure maker Hobby Figures regarding their upcoming Mugen figure as well as the brand’s plans for future development. The most tantalizing bit of information is that the first figure in their Queen’s Blade PVC lineup will be Risty, overlooked by Megahouse to the point where many of us had despaired of ever seeing her in PVC. All we know at this point is that her sculpt is from “a very famous sculptor” and that it’s in “it’s final stage”, so we’ll be looking for further news and visual evidence to appear soon! Thanks to Merlin of Hobby-News for the scoop. (no more)

Hobby News: Samurai Spirits Iroha comes to Queen’s Gate (updated)

Online bookshop Mangaoh posted a listing last night for a rather surprising item: Queen’s Gate – On wo Kaesu Mono Iroha, (“Iroha – She Who Repays a Debt”). This is the same Iroha featured in the Samurai Spirits – Tenkaichi Kenkyakuden SNK fighting game, and Queen’s Gate is the recently begun crossover franchise to Queen’s Blade that brings characters from other settings into the Lost Worlds combat book system (Moetan‘s Nijihara Ink and the original Niθ-designed Mon wo Hiraku Mono Arisu were the first two entries). I wasn’t expecting to see a bona fide fighting game character emerge in the series, but given her popularity Iroha certainly makes sense as a selection – I wonder if this means we’ll finally get a castoffable Iroha kit from Megahouse (probably not). According to the Mangaoh entry she’s scheduled to make her queenish debut on April 18th, at the standard QB price of 1,500 yen (64 full color pages, hardbound). Queen’s Gate Iroha cover image below:

[ERO] Figure News: Megahouse Queen’s Blade Cattleya figure castoff on display (updated)

Akiba Hobby and Ascii.jp are both reporting tonight on the castoff status of Megahouse’s Excellent Model CORE Queen’s Blade Cattleya figure that was much hyped here last fall. Both scoops are censored to a certain degree, but leave little to the imagination – for good or ill both Cattleya and her son are fully castoff ready, and to my admittedly warped sensibilities she’s looking really good. :3 With the recent round of PVC samples on display we can expect her to ship in the very near future. Update: Senaka Blog represents with a completely uncensored look at Cattleya (though still no full frontal shot). My one gripe would be that her neck looks oddly elongated with the collar off, I’m guessing most will opt to leave it in place… (no more)

Book News: Queen’s Blade Yumil, Bitoshi Gaiden vol. 2 Koudai Oujo no Sho up for preorder

A bit late to the scoop on this one, but it’s worth noting that as of last Friday preorders are now open for the Queen’s Blade bishoujo fighting book game volume for Yumil, delayed for well over a year (her figure was released before she was), and the second Bitoshi Gaiden volume, Koudai Oujo no Sho. The latter features the adventures of Menace, including an F.S-illustrated novel and accompanied drama CD (Menace is voiced by Gotou Yuuko). Both are scheduled for release on February 15th, and both are currently available at Amazon.co.jp, among other retail locations [Yumil | Bitoshi Gaiden vol. 2]. (no more)

[ERO] Figure News: Excellent Model CORE Queen’s Blade Shizuka up at Alpha Omega (updated)

With color preproduction images appearing in last month’s Hobby Japan it was only a matter of time before she appeared online in an official capacity, and today is the day: Megahouse x Alter collaboration brand Alpha Omega presents official pages for both the regular edition Excellent Model Core Queen’s Blade EX Koumanin Guntouryou Shizuka and her Hobby Japan limited alternate color counterpart Nukenin version. Designed by artist Eiwa and first appearing in the illustrated sound novel Queen’s Blade Bitoshi Gaiden, this 3D rendition of Shizuka will go on sale in April of next year at 5,775 yen retail and 1/8 scale (22 cm tall). With her up at Alpha Omega’s official site preorders should begin online shortly; a listing for the limited version is already up at Play Asia (though still display only) so it looks like they will be offering it as they have with past HJ-only figures. For a full preview of Shizuka including [ERO] shots check out Hobby Channel‘s coverage. Update: as of this evening she is now available for preorder at Amiami. (no more)

Figure News: Hobby Japan January 2008 leftovers

We’ve already scooped the bulk of what was new in this month’s issue of Hobby Japan, but after getting my hands on an actual copy of the magazine last night I noticed a few other odds and ends that might be of interest. Includes updates from Witchblade, Kimikiss, Code Geass, Queen’s Blade, Bible Black, and Nitro+ character designer Niθ; details below:

Figure News: January ’08 Hobby Japan preview

Hot on the heels of this morning’s Hatsune Miku Nendoroid leak comes further scoopage from the as-yet unpublished pages of the January ’08 issue of Hobby Japan magazine! On the Queen’s Blade front we get our first look at Megahouse’s Shizuka in color (scooped back at Wanfesu), along with the news that she’s due out next spring at 5,775 yen and is castoffable. We get looks beneath the clothing of both Airi and Nix as well, with Nix revealed as a lower castoff. We have word that an Izuruha figure will accompany a box set release of the four volumes of Ru Li Lu Ra manga (details in the next HJ issue). Word from Goodsmile as well that they’re producing a Kuonji Shinra figure from Kimigashu (no details yet), and a look at the MMS Yoko action figure coming from Konami in December. Last but not least we have Akashiya Moka from Rosario to Vampire coming from Shueisha on May 23rd at 5,000 yen, and what for me is the heart-stopping revelation of the issue: the Orchid Seed Ishiyama Satoshi-sculpted Witchblade Shiori kit scooped at the Miyazawa Model Exhibition is coming out in resin at Hobby Complex 02 this Sunday, November 25th. Holding my breath until the PVC announcement… visual evidence below:

[ERO] Figure News: standalone alternate color Queen’s Blade Cattleya up for preorder

A standalone version of Megahouse‘s Excellent Model CORE Queen’s Blade Cattleya PVC figure (the normal version of which comes with her son Rana) was rumored back when the figure was confirmed in Hobby Japan last month, and now she’s finally up for preorder at Amiami – albeit in a slightly different color configuration and armed with a different weapon. Like the normal version this standalone kit is due out in February of next year, at 1/8 scale (22.5 cm tall) and 5,775 yen retail. A bit of a disappointment for fans hoping for the regular color version without Rana, but it’s still a nice option to have available. Pictures below:

[ERO] Figure News: Medicos Queen’s Blade trading figures up for preorder

Following recent coverage on the official Medicos blog as well as at Hobby Channel the listing of this item was only a matter of time, and today Getchu represents with the scoop: Medicos’s Chouzou Queen’s Blade Collection vol. 1 is now officially up for preorder. The figures are roughly 10 cm tall, and the box set of eight units (three standard and three alternate colors, plus secret) will retail in mid-February at the whopping price of 10,080 yen. New information up with the listing includes word that Saitoh Heel is on sculpting duty, and that the armor and equipment are completely separate parts. A bit of a bitter pill to swallow for those of us expecting a more reasonable price point, but still a very nice item provided the production quality holds up. Picture below:

Weekend Event Roundup: Dream Party Osaka, Clayz Matsuri, Queen’s Coliseum II, Sukima Festival

In this post we hit the highlights of several events that went down over the November 3-4 weekend: Dream Party Osaka, the Kansai version of Dream Party Tokyo; Clayz Moe~ro Matsuri, the yearly expo of Clayz figures and work by associated sculptors (blog); Queen’s Coliseum II, the first [ERO] doujin event to take place at the Taitou building in Asakusa following the dropping of the censorship banhammer; and Sukima Festival, a collection of niche themed doujin events that just happened to also include Hatsune Miku and Gurren Lagann.

[ERO] Figure News: Medicos Queen’s Blade trading figure line confirmed, release details updated

A lot of news from over the weekend to process here today, but we’ll start with this: Hobby Channel posted last night with an updated profile of the Medicos Queen’s Blade trading figures we’ve been covering here recently, including the first color shots of Risty that have made their way online. The Hobby Channel post contains both the regular and alternate color of the three main figures in the set, and updates the details of the release in several significant ways: first is the price point, which is revealed at what may be a new record for trading figures at 1,260 yen per unit. The unit count per box has been raised from six to eight, and release is scheduled for “Spring 2008”. Hopefully this means preorders are on the horizon… (no more)

Game Book News: Queen’s Gate official site open

The official site for Queen’s Blade spinoff series Queen’s Gate is now open! Based on the Lost Worlds series of combat game books from Flying Buffalo Press, Queen’s Gate serves as the portal between the Queen’s Blade series and the creative works of other brands joining in partnership to release other characters in the Lost Worlds format. The first two installments are Mon wo Hiraku Mono Arisu, designed by Niθ of Nitro+, and the POP-illustrated Magical Girl Pastel Ink, heroine of the Moetan anime and English otaku phrase book series. Both combat artbooks are scheduled for release on November 30th at 1,500 yen each, and like their Queen’s Blade counterparts will be hardcover and full color. We’ll be keeping an eye out for further news on this series – could Maritan be next? (no more)

[ERO] Figure News: Medicos Entertainment Queen’s Blade trading figures officially unveiled

The official Medicos Entertainment site yesterday posted an entry regarding their Queen’s Blade trading figure set (the same one featured in this month’s Hobby Japan, and listed on the official Queen’s Blade site for some time). The new Medicos post shows us Reina and Nowa in color, as well as providing further details about their release format: the set is scheduled to hit shelves in mid-February of next year with each figure at ~10 cm tall, though the price has yet to be announced (I’m guessing somewhere in the 700-800 yen range for this quality). The set will contain seven pieces: two color versions each of Reina, Nowa, and Risty, and one “secret”, and will be sold in boxes of six (DAMN YOU MEDICOS >:O). Preorders are scheduled to begin on November 1st, and pricing information along with Risty in color should be appearing soon. We’ll keep an eye out. (no more)

Manga News: third volume of Queen’s Blade anthology comics announced

The December ’07 issue of Hobby Japan magazine had an advertisement for a third anthology volume of manga based on the characters from the Queen’s Blade series of combat artbooks. It’s set for release on November 24th, which is at this point all we know about the book (other than that the cover will be penned by [ERO] Jibril and Nanael character designer Kuuchuu Yousai); past volumes of the anthology have included work from artists such as F.S, Rebis, and Kokuryuugan, and as such are basically officially sanctioned borderline ecchi doujin compilations. We’ll be keeping an eye out for a list of contributors coming online in the next few weeks. Cover image from the advertisement below:

Figure News: Megahouse Queen’s Blade Cattleya up for preorder, gallery online

Happinet’s online shop Moe Soul certainly doesn’t waste any time, listing Megahouse’s Excellent Model CORE Cattleya PVC figure from the Queen’s Blade game artbook series up for preorder a scant four minutes after the stroke of midnight on the day the magazine officially announcing her sale (December’s Hobby Japan) was released. Not only is the listing up, but it contains a full decent resolution image gallery (though no evidence of castoff yet). Now that she’s up at Moe Soul we can expect other retailers to have her up soon, so those interested should keep a sharp eye out – there may be more of us MILF fans out there than this thread would suggest. :3 Thanks to Imp for the heads up! Figure News: more from December’s Hobby Japan includes Lineage II, more Queen’s Blade, Manabi Straight

2chan’s mokeiura board is a gift that just keeps on giving, tonight divulging further scans from the as-yet unreleased December ’07 edition of Hobby Japan. In addition to Cattleya in color we have further Queen’s Blade news: the Medicos Entertainment trading figure set that has been listed on the official QB site for months is finally in color with a release date of mid-February ’08 (Nowa and Reina shown here); also Griffon keeps hammering away at their resin / cold cast lineup with a new Nix and designs for several other kits in the pipeline. In Lineage II news we have word that Yujin is releasing a capsule figure set of the game’s female characters at 300 yen each, and word from Goodsmile that preorders will be opening soon at their official online shop for the reissue of their Dark Elf female mage. Finally, news is in that Toy’sworks is planning the release of a Manabi Straight trading figure set, due out in late February. All this and more can be seen in the images below:

Figure News: Megahouse Excellent Model CORE Cattleya (Katorea) PVC from Queen’s Blade, now in color

The December issue of Hobby Japan won’t be officially released for two more days, but images are surfacing from it around the net already including this most delicious item (scooped here last month): Megahouse‘s Queen’s Blade Cattleya PVC, now in color. The set (complete with her son Rana) is due out in February of ’08 at 7,350 yen; if Cattleya alone is your flavor, word has it that she’ll be available for sale as a separate item as well. While no castoff configuration has been officially confirmed as of yet, several elements of both figures are looking mighty suspicious at this point… Hobby Japan scan below:

Goods News: Queen’s Blade 8th round Merona, Claudette combat artbooks go on sale; most [ERO] yet?

Both Akiba Blog and Moeyo! Akibajin Blog are reporting on today’s sale of Merona and Claudette, the two latest entries in the Queen’s Blade combat artbook series, and as usual they just barely skirt the border of all-ages material. As we reported back in August F.S. and Hisayuki Hirokazu reprise their design roles here, with F.S.’s Merona especially eye-catching as a shape shifting ooze creature who takes the form of the other Queen’s Blade protagonists. This release snuck up on me, but I’ll try to get reviews up as soon as I can grab copies for myself… (no more)

[ERO] Figure Review: Megahouse Excellent Model CORE Tomoe PVC from Queen’s Blade

Tomoe is one of the earliest Queen’s Blade characters released and has been one of the most enduringly popular, being the subject of the Noto Mamiko-voiced Bitoshi Gaiden vol. 1 artbook / drama CD as well as several doujinshi. With Megahouse’s Queen’s Blade figure line famous for its castoffability a preorder of this item was inevitable; but how does the Excellent Model reputation for quality hold up in the face of her abundant mikoliciousness? Quite well, thankfully.

Goods News: Queen’s Gate Mon wo Hiraku Mono Arisu, Mahou Shoujo Nijihara Ink up for preorder

Amiami has preorder pages up for the two inaugural entries in the Queen’s Gate series of combat game artbooks, based on Hobby Japan’s Queen’s Blade series (which in turn is based on Flying Buffalo’s Lost Worlds combat books). Queen’s Gate is a spinoff series of Queen’s Blade that features the work of famous artists and brands brought into the Lost Worlds game system and artbook format. First scooped at HD back in July, the two characters now up for preorder are the Nitro+ / Niθ-designed Mon wo Hiraku Mono Arisu and the Pop-illustrated Mahou Shoujo Nijihara Ink, heroine of the otaku English phrasebook and anime series Moetan. The pair of hard cover, full color 64-page combat artbooks are scheduled for release on November 30th at 1,500 yen each; we’ll keep an eye out for preorder availability on sites that ship internationally. Megahouse Holstein Hanako-san castoff confirmed, Alpha Omega C.C. and Karen in color, Queen’s Blade Nix and Airi castoff configurations revealed, Queen’s Blade Reina action figure and cell phone game announced along with first interior shots of the newest QB character books, Gurren Lagann Yoko coming in resin from Wave, ero-ero Hobby Japan limited Jingai Makyou Didii figure mail order begins. [ERO] Figure News: Katorea (Cattleya) announced as next in the Megahouse Excellent Model CORE Queen’s Blade PVC lineup

Nanashi over at 2chan’s Mokeiura board posted what has to be a scan from November’s issue of Hobby Japan magazine (on sale tomorrow), providing positive photo identification of a prototype for a Megahouse Excellent Model CORE Katorea (Cattleya) PVC figure from Queen’s Blade. We’ll check out the details in the magazine tomorrow, but here at HD HQ the celebration begins tonight – for the fan of improbably busted figures that I am this is something akin to the Holy Grail. Thanks to MK for the tipoff! Picture below:

Figure News: Megahouse Excellent Model CORE Queen’s Blade Airi and Nix up for preorder

First announced at Wonder Festival Summer 2007, today’s noon Amiami update brought the listing of Megahouse‘s Excellent Model CORE Queen’s Blade Airi and Nix PVC figures up for preorder. Both are set to retail in December at 5,250 yen and (presumably) the same 1/8 scale and extreme castoffability as their predecessors. We’ll keep you updated as more comes to light on this pair, they’re looking really nice… :3 Update: Preorders have closed at Amiami for both Nix and Airi. According to hobby shop Digitamin’s store blog the two are being produced in relatively small lots compared to other recent Megahouse QB figures, so preorders are advised ASAP for those looking to pick them up.
