Orchid Seed’s Shiori to ship with soft chest part

A potential reason for the long production delay on Orchid Seed’s Witchblade Tsuzuki Shiori figure was revealed today in an Akiba Hobby review of her finished PVC sample. According to visual evidence and accompanying text she’ll be shipping with an exchangeable “soft chest part”, presumably similar to Chichinoe+ 2 Young Hip Cover Gal (which was also delayed in a similar fashion). This is potentially both a plus and a minus, as it means her upper body is not cast from a single piece – resulting in seams such as the one visible here. Still, based on this review I’m happy with her presentation overall and can’t wait to see her in person later this month! (no more)

Kai Harn resin kit preorder open

We’ve had an eye on Orchid Seed’s Kai Harn from Bastard!! since she was announced in PVC at WHF Ariake 18, and then confirmed for a limited edition resin reissue this month exclusively via Amiami. Preorders for the kit version are now open, and photos in the listing hint strongly at some delicious castoff possibilities… if you’re in the market for this kit and don’t mind incurring additional proxy fees it will ship later in June at 9,500 yen retail, 1/6 scale (24 cm tall), with 26 unpainted resin parts and a sculpt from Ishiyama Satoshi. Figure images below:

Black hair Chichinoe+ reissue announced

Figure maker Orchid Seed updated their official site today with a listing for a black hair version reissue of their Chichinoe+ figure. Her specifications are identical to the original blond version released last year, with a sculpt from Ishiyama Satoshi, 1/6 scale (actually closer to 1/8 at 21 cm long), 6,800 yen retail, with release planned for August (expected in January or February of next year). The design is from the cover of Inoue Takuya’s Chichinoe+ artbook; further details are available at our review of the original release. Images below:

Orchid Seed’s May lineup delayed to June

In what has become the Orchid Seed company mantra over the past year or so, the figure maker today announced yet another production delay affecting the following figures scheduled for release this month: Edelweiss Fumie, Witchblade Shiori, and Ma ga Ochiru Yoru Sherrice. All three are now scheduled for release in June. The delays are blamed on “a third party”, but who knows where the real culprit is… we’ll keep tabs on any further information that may indicate June as the actual release window instead of just more wishful thinking. WHF Ariake 18: Industry News

In the interests of me getting some sleep tonight I’m going to confine this post to actual news, and leave images of already announced figures for a subsequent update. There wasn’t a huge amount of industry movement at the event, but the tidbits that came out are noteworthy nonetheless:

Figure Review: Orchid Seed’s Anna from Gekkou no Carnevale

When we first came across Orchid Seed’s Anna last October I was clueless about this blond clone of a certain pink-haired Gainax android, but as I began researching her background for this review I realized that not only was this figure an atypical representation of the game from which she’s derived, but that the game itself looked really cool. This isn’t a review of the game, of course, but of a figure that I still maintain is very cute – though perhaps not quite one to make the cut for those of us on an increasingly tightening budget. Read on for details:

Orchid’s “Summer Vacation” Kanu preorder opens

Orchid Seed updated their official site today with word that their Kanu Unchou (summer vacation ver.) PVC figure from Ikkitousen is now available for preorder. While Orchid’s official statistics are often somewhat at odds with the facts, she’s officially described as 1/6 scale (17 cm tall) with a sculpt from Ishiyama Satoshi, and is scheduled for release in July at 7,400 yen with a variety of option parts newly revealed in her updated description page: the standard bikini from the original illustration upon which she’s based, a “hot pants” clothing set, and a “race queen” clothing set. With her available for order from Orchid’s official site other preorder listings should follow shortly. Images below:

Figure Review: Orchid Seed’s Comic Unreal cover girl Onna Kenshi Feane

After several release delays, Orchid Seed’s Mogudan-inspired Comic Unreal cover girl Onna Kenshi Feane is finally here! Unlike most kits this is one that proved to be in almost every respect better than the production shots available in the past – if Orchid delays mean more figures of this quality, I’m all for them. Read on for a detailed look at the first figure that can truly lay claim to embody the spirit – and the monumental bosoms – of Mogudan’s art.

Orchid Seed’s Nekomiya Nono preorder begins

Figure maker Orchid Seed updated their official site today with an entry for their Nekomiya Nono (bathtime ver.) PVC from Hiquo-soft’s eroge Osananajimi to no Kurashikata (literally “how to live with your childhood friend”). The kit is 1/8 scale (11 cm tall) and retails at 6,800 yen in September, with a sculpt from Ranmaru. The kit comes with various bath goods sized to scale (shampoo, conditioner, toys, etc.), and the “foam” is removable; she is however wearing panties underneath. Uncensored images below:

Orchid’s bikini Kanu PVC announced

Following last week’s announcement of a PVC version of the resin Kazami Mizuho debuted by Orchid Seed at Wonder Festival, it comes as no surprise that the similarly presented Kanu Unchou (bikini ver.) from Ikkitousen would be soon to follow. GA Graphic brings the news today that the Ishiyama Satoshi sculpted Kanu will be released in pre-painted PVC form in July at 6,800 yen retail and 1/6 scale (17 cm tall). According to GA Graphic’s scoop a race queen costume will be included along with the swimsuit, virtually guaranteeing her castoffability – we’ll be watching for further news and the official opening of preorders, bound to come soon. Orchid Seed’s Mizuho comes to PVC

True to form, the Orchid Seed Kazami Mizuho kit from Onegai Teacher first offered as an event-limited resin at Wonder Festival was today annouced for PVC release. As previously noted her sculpt is from Nekomaru, and she’s due out in July at 1/7 scale (10 cm tall) at 6,800 yen. Castoffability is doubtful given past precedent of other Mizuho figures, but we’ll watch for any further news as release approaches; preorders have already begun at Amiami and elsewhere. Image gallery below:

Figure News: Orchid Seed’s resin Kanu and Mizuho in color

We reported almost a month ago when Orchid Seed updated their official site with images of the two resin kits they would be bringing to sell at Wonder Festival 2008 Winter on February 24th, and yesterday evening they updated the product entries for both their Kanu Unchou (bikini ver.) kit from Ikkitousen and their Kazami Mizuho kit from Onegai Teacher with colored versions of the kits. Both are looking great, I must say – with her Ishiyama Satoshi sculpt the Kanu was perhaps a given (castoff now confirmed!), but it’s nice to see Mizuho looking true to her original design illustration as well. Note that while both kits will only be available in resin form at Wonder Festival, every single figure Orchid has ever sold as an “event exclusive” has eventually come out in PVC. Orchid’s galleries reproduced below:

[ERO] Figure News: Orchid Seed Wonder Festival 2008 Winter lineup

Orchid Seed updated their official site this afternoon with the lineup of items they’ll have for sale at Wonder Festival 2008 Winter. We scooped the limited edition of their Chichinoe+ 2 figure yesterday in our coverage from Hobby Japan, but seeing her here these limited edition colors seem like a definite step back from the original, alas. Far more exciting is news of the two resin kits to be on sale, an Ishiyama Satoshi-sculpted Kanu Unchou in (castoffable?) bikini, and a Nekomaru-sculpted Kazami Mizuho from Onegai Teacher. The details of these don’t really matter – what’s important is that precedent decrees that both of these kits will inevitably be released as PVC at some point in the coming year, which is totally awesome news for fans of Kanu, Mizuho, and Ishiyama Satoshi’s mad sculpting skills. Pictures below:

Figure News: Little Busters’ Kurugaya Yuiko from Toy’sworks, Alter and Revoltech at WF 2008 Winter, release delays

Toy’sworks put up a promotional image on their official site today advertising the production of a Kurugaya Yuiko figure from Key’s Little Busters!. She’s scheduled for release in May at 6,800 yen retail and 1/8 scale (12 cm tall). In other figure news, the industry presence at Wonder Festival 2008 Winter is ramping up today with the announcement from Alter of a limited edition white version of their Quiz Magic Academy Sharon figure for sale at the event, and Kaiyodo’s announcement on their Revoltech Blog that they’ll be releasing their Gurren Lagann Revoltech at the event, a whopping three months before its official street date. Finally, word is in from Orchid Seed that their January release lineup (Feane, Al Ajif / Another Blood, and Fumie) has been pushed back to February, and Max Factory’s Onegai Onsen trading figures have been pushed back to February as well. [ERO] Figure Review: Orchid Seed’s Seihouin Erika from Miraroma

Another in the parade of Orchid Seed’s delayed releases finally made her way to open air this week. When we first reported on Seihouin Erika she was due for release in September, and looked quite attractive in her prototype incarnation; eight months later it seems she may not have been worth the wait, alas. Just how does she live up to the aspirations of naked apron aficionados everywhere? Read on for the inconvenient truth:

[ERO] Figure News: Orchid Seed’s Sherrice from Ma ga Ochiru Yoru up for preorder (updated)

We first reported on this figure back in November when it was announced at Hobby Complex 02 that she would be PVCified, and now it’s official: Orchid Seed’s site was updated last night with a page for their Sherrice kit from Ma ga Ochiru Yoru (the eroge and eroanime). According to newly available information she’s scheduled for release in April of next year at 1/8 scale (20 cm tall) and 7,800 yen retail, with several exchangeable arm configurations. Castoffability is assumed based on the original resin kit (see below for pictures) though we don’t have official confirmation yet; we’ll be keeping a close eye on her as more information becomes available. As of this morning she’s only up for preorder on Orchid’s official site, though other shops are expected to list her shortly. Image gallery below:

Mainichi Junk: C73 roundup, anime news, etc.

It’s a general roundup of news from the past few days in another installment of the increasingly inaccurately named Mainichi Junk! We’ve got stuff from all corners of the otakuverse today, starting with a heaping helping of Comic Market 73 (the latest on Momoi’s AX DVD, Keumaya’s new doujin figure project, and hug pillows galore), new moves on the anime scene (trailers for Mnemosyne, Code Geass season 2, and Kite Liberator), eroanime news (featuring a new Pixy title in the “valkyrie vs. orc” genre), a few bits of figure gossip (Orchid’s Erika shipping for reals, Donne Anonime too, and Shuraki mangafication) and a new MOSAIC.WAV eroge movie that is certainly worth your viewing time.

Figure News: Orchid’s Nao, CM’s’ Potemayo, Petit Nendoroid Lucky Star up for preorder

Amiami’s noon update brought news of a few new preorders of items we’ve discussed recently here: first up is Orchid Seed’s Mabinogi Nao kit that we first noted was in production earlier today; the Miyazawa version is also available, and if Amiami has her I’m guessing Hobby Search will too. Next is the CM’s soft vinyl Potemayo that we scooped last month; it’s retailing at 1/1 scale (25 cm tall) and 8,925 yen, with release scheduled for February. Finally a reminder from yesterday to mention that Goodsmile’s Nendoroid Petit Lucky Star trading figures are now up for preorder as well, with a box of 12 (5 x 2 standard variations + 1 secret + 1 double, presumably) retailing at 6,000 yen and set for February release. I wish they sold the two Akiras separately… (no more)

Figure News: Mabinogi Nao up at Orchid Seed, Kojika Play Stationery Mimi and Kuro prototypes unveiled

Orchid Seed’s Nao PVC figure from Mabinogi was first brought to our attention at the Miyazawa Model Exhibition last month, and last night she found her way into an official listing on the maker’s site along with a companion Miyazawa limited color version. The unlimited version clocks in at 1/7 scale (26 cm tall with staff) and 7,400 yen retail, with release scheduled for April. According to the product description she comes with a full change of clothes (presumably the white version pictured), though it’s unclear precisely how the castoff mechanism works. Sculpt is from rookie creator Ribun, thus far only credited on Orchid’s Seinarukana Satsuki. It is currently unknown how the Miyazawa color version will be released. News continues below:

Figure News: Orchid Seed’s Shiori enters full preorder, amaloli Ryofu Housen announced; Q-six’s Linda kit sells out

After her unveiling yesterday on Orchid’s official site we assumed it would only be a matter of (short) time before her preorder became widely available, and it seems we were right: Hobby Stock has a preorder listing up today for Orchid Seed’s Tsuzuki Shiori (bikini ver.) PVC figure, with other shops presumed to follow shortly. I’ll be watching Amiami like a hawk… In other news from Orchid, they’ve announced a new “amaloli” color version of their recently released gothic lolita Ryofu Housen PVC figure. This pink dress version is apparently limited to sale via wholesale supplier Shinpo, and release is expected in the spring (preorders close on January 25th) at 6,800 yen retail. On the garage kit side of things, the Linda-designed Q-Six resin kit we reported on earlier this month went up for preorder and back down again with astonishing speed, with the first wave of production shipping on the 28th. Horribly color-reduced GIF images of the [ERO] kit can be found here. We’ll be on the lookout for further news on all of these items as it comes to light. (no more)

Figure News: Orchid Seed’s Tsuzuki Shiori (bikini ver.) PVC from Witchblade up for preorder

I’ll be damned if the news doesn’t just keep coming tonight… Figure maker Orchid Seed has just put up an official page and preorder listing for their prodigiously endowed Tsuzuki Shiori (bikini ver.) PVC figure from Witchblade that we’ve been tracking here for the past few weeks! As previously reported she is scheduled for release in March of next year at 6,800 yen, 1/7 scale (revised downward from 1/6), and 23 cm tall. The sculpt is from Orchid regular Ishiyama Satoshi, and based on the visual information thus far her castoff status is still in limbo; here’s hoping. She does come with a replaceable mutant arm, which is kinda cool… Orchid’s gallery reproduced below:

Figure News: Hobby Japan January 2008 leftovers

We’ve already scooped the bulk of what was new in this month’s issue of Hobby Japan, but after getting my hands on an actual copy of the magazine last night I noticed a few other odds and ends that might be of interest. Includes updates from Witchblade, Kimikiss, Code Geass, Queen’s Blade, Bible Black, and Nitro+ character designer Niθ; details below:

Figure News: Persona 3 FES Metis, Ma ga Ochiru Yoru Sherisu coming in PVC from Orchid Seed

Further coverage of yesterday’s Hobby Complex 02 is in today from GA Graphic, which reports on two new PVC kits coming from Orchid Seed: the first is Metis, the FES-exclusive Persona 3 character, with a sculpt from Ishinaga Sakurako (Google cache). The second is Sherisu, the protagonist of eroge and eroanime Ma ga Ochiru Yoru. This is a PVC version of an [ERO] resin kit that came out at Wonder Festival 2007 Summer under the auspices of Kill Time Communication, with a sculpt from Tako Tomoyuki. Price and release information are yet forthcoming, but we’ll be keeping an eye on both as production advances. Castoff Sherisu shots below:

Figure News: January ’08 Hobby Japan preview

Hot on the heels of this morning’s Hatsune Miku Nendoroid leak comes further scoopage from the as-yet unpublished pages of the January ’08 issue of Hobby Japan magazine! On the Queen’s Blade front we get our first look at Megahouse’s Shizuka in color (scooped back at Wanfesu), along with the news that she’s due out next spring at 5,775 yen and is castoffable. We get looks beneath the clothing of both Airi and Nix as well, with Nix revealed as a lower castoff. We have word that an Izuruha figure will accompany a box set release of the four volumes of Ru Li Lu Ra manga (details in the next HJ issue). Word from Goodsmile as well that they’re producing a Kuonji Shinra figure from Kimigashu (no details yet), and a look at the MMS Yoko action figure coming from Konami in December. Last but not least we have Akashiya Moka from Rosario to Vampire coming from Shueisha on May 23rd at 5,000 yen, and what for me is the heart-stopping revelation of the issue: the Orchid Seed Ishiyama Satoshi-sculpted Witchblade Shiori kit scooped at the Miyazawa Model Exhibition is coming out in resin at Hobby Complex 02 this Sunday, November 25th. Holding my breath until the PVC announcement… visual evidence below:

[ERO] Figure Review: Orchid Seed’s Ryofu Housen (gothic lolita ver.) PVC from Ikkitousen

If it seems like we just reviewed an Orchid Seed Ikkitousen figure last month, that’s because we did. Ishiyama Satoshi has been churning them out fast and furious, giving fans of his signature style and hot Orchid castoff kits something to celebrate; how does his gothic lolita Ryofu stack up against the others, and against her competitors? Read on to find out!

[ERO] Figure Review: Orchid Seed’s Chichinoe+2 Young Hip Cover Girl PVC

Announced last April just prior to Orchid Seed’s successful Chichinoe+ Cover Girl PVC release, this has been one of the figures I’ve personally anticipated most this year. Her release was delayed multiple times, the cause of the delay eventually revealed to be the pliant chest part added as an option to the kit in mid-production. Was she worth the wait, and how does she stack up against her predecessor? Overall quite well, despite some unpleasant drawbacks that mar her otherwise exceptional design.

[ERO] Figure News: Ignis the White in stock at Play Asia

Checking up on Play Asia‘s figure listings just now it seems that Ignis the White is currently in stock! This may be the best opportunity for those who missed her via preorder to pick her up at a reasonable price (and support HD in the process). Edit: it seems that Cattleya is up for preorder as well, for fans of the more bustily endowed persuasion. (no more)

Figure News: Orchid Seed’s Magical Amber PVC from Tsukihime* up for preorder

First announced to be in production back at Wonder Festival, word is in from Amiami this evening that Orchid Seed‘s Magical Amber PVC figure is now up for preorder. Magical Amber is a character from the broader Tsukihime franchise, not explicitly created by Type Moon but authorized by them (I think – she apparently shows up in Character Material as well); I’m finding it virtually impossible to definitively source this character, but it seems she is a parody variant of Kohaku who appears in Melty Blood Re-ACT. The figure is scheduled for release in February of next year at 1/7 scale (23 cm tall) and 6,800 yen retail, with a sculpt from makeplus. (no more)

[ERO] Figure Review: Orchid Seed’s Ignis the White PVC from Jingai Makyou

When Ignis the White was first revealed back on February 14th of this year it really did feel like Valentine’s Day had come a day early. I was instantly smitten by the figure, the likes of which had previously existed only in my wettest of dreams – we had seen several figure incarnations of the Jingai Makyou heroine already, but none that dared challenge the monumental intricacy of her “undying flame” incarnation. Would the craftsmanship of Orchid Seed rise to the occasion and prove equal to the task of replicating this truly epic sculpt? Read on for the opinion of one humble fan…

[ERO] Figure Review: Orchid Seed’s Kanu Unchou (strawberry milk ver.) PVC from Ikkitousen

After giving the first two incarnations of Orchid’s gothic lolita Kanu a miss I wasn’t originally planning to pick this one up, but an unexpectedly good deal called out to me and I couldn’t pass up on the chance to pick up another castoffable Kanu (I think I may be diseased in this regard). Here we are then with the third color variation of what is a decent sculpt, but one with a few production issues that Orchid has hopefully ironed out in their releases scheduled for the near future.
