Mogudan to release new Ayanami doujinshi

Master illustrator and character designer of questionably proportioned heroines Mogudan is at it again! Having not produced a new doujinshi under his own name since Ayanami Dai Ikkai in the summer of 2006 it was thought that he may have vacated the scene entirely, but a homepage update today brings the news that after almost two years he’s back with another installment of his increasingly fantastically depicted Ayanami Rei series: Omake Hon Soushuuhen Sono 1. The book contains a compilation of work previously released as event-limited extras or in other limited edition formats, revised and edited from the original rough material, as well as several pages of all new original work. The total page count is unknown, but the book is scheduled for release on May 27th so we’ll look for more comprehensive information to appear in preorder listings soon.

As with similar doujin items this book will likely only be available internationally via proxy. Thanks to Faust for the tipoff on this! (no more)

U-Art’s “Mogudan Kanu” preorder open

We reported last month on the production of a PVC incarnation of a Mogudan-inspired Kanu Unchou resin kit we first saw at Wonder Festival, and this evening the rumors have solidified with a preorder listing up at Amiami for U-Art’s Ikkitousen Kanu Unchou (normal color Mogudan ver.). The kit will be produced by the U-Art brand, not Beagle as earlier reported; I’m only familiar with the maker in the context of their collaboration on earlier Ikkitousen kits so I’m not sure what to expect in terms of quality. The sculpt is from Satou Hisanori (?) of Daikokuya Koubou, and she’s scheduled for release in June at 1/7 scale (height unlisted) and 7,800 yen retail. Her skirt and blouse are fully castoffable.

My initial thought was that this design was very loosely lifted from Mogudan’s illustration in the official Ikkitousen DD fanbook issued by Toranoana last year, but subsequent perusal of 2chan’s mokeura board turned up a different image that much more closely matched the figure’s pose. It seems I neglected to save it then, but I’ll post it when I manage to track it down again. Figure images below:

Figure Review: Orchid Seed’s Comic Unreal cover girl Onna Kenshi Feane

After several release delays, Orchid Seed’s Mogudan-inspired Comic Unreal cover girl Onna Kenshi Feane is finally here! Unlike most kits this is one that proved to be in almost every respect better than the production shots available in the past – if Orchid delays mean more figures of this quality, I’m all for them. Read on for a detailed look at the first figure that can truly lay claim to embody the spirit – and the monumental bosoms – of Mogudan’s art.

Beagle does Mogudan’s Kanu Unchou

I speculated yesterday about the nature of the curvaceous posterior in Moeyo’s teaser coverage of the recently held Miyazawa Mokei dealer’s exhibition, and according to a new Moeyo update today it turns out my suspicion was correct – it does in fact belong to the kit we saw on display at Wonder Festival. Further details from Moeyo’s post reveal that the kit is (very loosely) based on this Mogudan illustration of Kanu Unchou from Toranoana’s official Ikkitousen Dragon Destiny fanbook, and that she’ll be coming as a pre-painted PVC from Beagle in July at 1/8 scale. Sculptor info is not immediately at hand, but we’ll bring it when we get it; I’m a bit nonplussed by the execution here of what could’ve been a truly epic sculpt, but I’m hoping the final product will more closely resemble what we saw at WF than what’s on display in Moeyo’s pictures. [ERO] Anime News: new White Bear project features Mogudan, Kino Hitoshi, Maruta designs

Adult media company Mediabank was selling a doujinshi at Comiket 73 (Toranoana mail order page) that featured a short volume of rough sketches from artists Kino Hitoshi, Maruta, and Mogudan, along with a DVD that contained preview material from three eroanime episodes currently in production, one designed by each of the above artists and produced by Mediabank eroanime label White Bear (the full Mediabank eroanime catalog can be found here). Those familiar with White Bear’s work won’t be surprised to hear that fidelity to the artists’ original designs is questionable, but news that veteran director Yoshi-Ten (of Bible Black fame) will be helming the Mogudan episode makes me optimistic that it will be something worth seeing. [ERO] Goods News: Toranoana-limited official Ikkitousen Dragon Destiny “fan book” up for preorder

Ikkitousen Dragon Destiny meets the stars of the doujin world in a 36 page, B5 size full color illustration compilation set for limited release from Toranoana, entitled the Ikkitousen DD Official Visual Fan Book. Featuring the likes of Mogudan, Kino Hitoshi, Eiwa, Azasuke, Same, and Maruto, it’s hard to imagine a higher profile collection of artists gathered to deliver their renditions of mangaka Shiozaki Yuuji’s iconic cast of characters. The volume is available for preorder from Toranoana now, with release expected on November 23rd at 1,050 yen. Those interested internationally will have to investigate proxy options as this is a Tora-only limited release. Sample images and further information below:

[ERO] Protoculture News: artist Nakayohi Mogudan opens new official site

Famous for his fantastic renderings of Ayanami Rei as well as his designs for Scrapped Princess and Brave Soul, doujin artist and illustrator Mogudan opened a new official site earlier today. He had closed his old location some time ago and was operating out of a temporary site for the past several months; hopefully the more robust content at the new site means that he’s found a permanent home. Notably lacking at the new site are any references to his Ayanami doujin line (aside from the site address itself), instead his “works” lineup includes illustrations for Toranoana’s recently scooped doujin compilation as well as his eromanga cover work (primarily for Comic Unreal) and Orchid Seed’s Feane PVC figure based on one such illustration. Here’s hoping this new site migration marks a resurgence in productivity for this bastion of iconic 2D erotica, and thanks to Faust for the scoop! (no more)

[ERO] Goods News: Toranoana plans “Shinzui” doujin compilations; first volume to feature Mogudan

Toranoana representative AYUZAWA penned a column yesterday for Akiba Blog in which he announced the production of four 120-page [ERO] doujin compilation volumes in a series dubbed shinzui (“lifeblood”). The project is in commemoration for the recent opening of the new Toranoana shop in Sendai, and features a wide selection of famous artists (the first volume alone contains Mogudan, Sumeragi Kohaku, Amano Ameno, and Tsukino Jougi among others). While price and release dates are yet forthcoming we are informed that the volumes will only be available for purchase at Toranoana brick-and-mortar locations as well as via their online shop, so international buyers are advised to head to their proxy services.
