Oretachi Ni Tsubasa Wa Nai Countdown Begins

The official Navel site has started a countdown (or rather, a count-up) for the release of their new PC game, Oretachi ni Tsubasa wa Nai ~Under the Innocent Sky

I haven’t heard much buzz about this, but I may just be out of the loop. It does look promising, but I’ve always been a sucker for a girl with feathers on her back. Does anyone have more information than I do?

Tech Arts omnibus teaser

The various Tech Arts eroge brands got together yesterday and posted an enormous (4721 x 6057 pixel) teaser image including in-progress content from several of their upcoming games. The image is chaotic and not very easy to parse, but from what can be gleaned it seems that there are at least four new games in development from the various brands: a new Mochizuki Nozomu-designed game from MBS Truth (or possibly an OLE spinoff), a new Gunner-L designed game (side-scrolling shooter included) from an OLE, a new Sano Toshihide-designed game from G.J?, and what appears to be a 3D remake of Ane to Boin from Tech Arts 3D. The teaser image is reproduced below:

Bible Black eroge sequel announced

Despite lacking a major game release since Discipline in 2002, troubled eroge brand Active has managed to limp on thanks to the enduring strength of its turn-of-the-century Sei Shoujo creations. Today Getchu put up a product listing for yet another extension of one of his storied franchises, dubbed Bible Black -The Infection-. It’s known history that Sei Shoujo left the maker several years ago (to form Empress) so his lack of involvement here is evident; the Getchu listing does not credit whatever artist and scenario writer(s) they have on duty. Game description, further details and sample CG below:

June 6th eroge download release lineup

We take a look today at the batch of eroge made newly available for purchase via download over the weekend of June 6th. The eight games present a decent range of titles, from brand new budget price releases (a great week for chikan fans, of both male and female varieties) to reissues of older classics, including Mink’s erotic mystery Tokineiro and 13cm’s sexfest Hatsujou Joshikousei (perhaps not a classic, but close enough). Read on for the full list:

May 30th eroge download release roundup

This weekend’s list of download releases includes several of the new budget titles that we introduced on Thursday, as well as a wide range of reduced-price reissues including Clockup’s sci-fi epic ZWEI WORTER,, M no Violet’s tale of hospital love and deception Swindle, and a pair of classic releases from the Ail catalog (including the original Ryoujoku, celebrating its 10th anniversary this year). Details below:

May 29th-30th eroge package release roundup

We scoop one of the biggest eroge release weekends of 2008 tonight, presenting a mix of 25 new package releases that range from budget titles to heavy hitters like the new ef sequel from minori and G-Senjou no Maou from Akabee Soft. This weekend also sees the release of games from two of my favorite artists: Majodou from Sano Toshihide (G.J?), and Kanojo x Kanojo x Kanojo from Happoubi Jin (ωstar). We’ll bring sustained coverage of several of these titles through the coming weekend, but for now here’s the lot of them at a glance:

Ikkitousen news roundup

Monthly Comic Gum magazine is the home of the Ikkitousen manga, and yesterday its official site updated with a mountain of news covering virtually all aspects of the franchise – the upcoming Great Guardians anime, a new PSP game, and a crazy awesome new figure concept. Details below:

May 23rd eroge download release roundup

We complete our roundup of the weekend’s eroge releases with a look at games made available today for purchase via download. The majority are newly released budget titles, though a few full price games that now appear for the first time via download at reduced prices (the Sei Shoujo-designed Cleavage and Mink’s Nymphomania) are included as well. A total of nine new titles are profiled below:

May 23rd eroge package release roundup

This weekend brings us a swell in eroge releases approaching the explosion coming next week on the 30th, so I’ve divided this post in half based on whether the titles were released via download or not. This post presents the eight new titles not released via download, and is split down the middle with four sequels/fan discs (including Chrono Belt, the Bullet Butlers/Ayakashibito sequel) and four brand new titles, including Yuzu Soft’s Natsuzora Kanata and Blue Gale spinoff brand LAPIS BLUe.’s maiden release, the horror-themed Bifronte. Read on for details:

May 16th eroge release roundup

A light showing on the eroge front this weekend after last week’s complete lack of releases. The four games on the table today are all budget titles, with heroines ranging from kimono-clad katana wielding girls to housewives in bondage, to android maids and futanari cheerleaders – a surprisingly broad range for just four titles, and we’ve got the details below:

Dokimajo 2 petit Nendoroids unveiled

We mentioned in passing back on April 3rd that the first lot limited edition release of “witch touching” game sequel Doki Doki Majo Shinpan 2 would be accompanied by a pair of Petit Nendoroid character figures, and thanks to Dengeki Hobby Web News we now have our first look at the completed items! See below for more:

G.J?’s Majodou master announced, new sample CG

The official site for eroge maker G.J?’s latest Sano Toshihide-designed game Majodou was updated last night with the welcome news that the game has attained master status! This means it’s on its way to the printers as I type this, and barring catastrophe should be complete in time to reach stores for its May 30th release date. Last night’s update also included two new awesome sample CG images to further whet the appetite, along with colorized versions of store-specific “omake” telephone cards. See below for a collage of yet-undisclosed game CG:

Revoltech Fraeulein Haruhi to come with Wii game (updated)

A Suzumiya Haruhi franchise Nintendo Wii game was announced to be in the works on the official Haruhi anime site as early as last year, but only a couple of days ago were the details confirmed – it’s a “story+dance sim”, scheduled for release within the year. Amazon already has a page up soliciting email addresses if you want to find out precisely when preorders open, as it seems this will be a hot item – not in the least because the special edition will be accompanied by a Revoltech Fraeulein Haruhi action figure, as reported today by official Revoltech Express blog. Unlike Kaiyodo’s earlier collaboration with Kadokawa in the release of Fate/stay night Realta Nua for the PS2, this Revoltech Haruhi will apparently be not just a bust but a full Fraeulein series figure. We’ll keep an eye out for further news on the project, especially any word of an individual release apart from the game.

Update: Famitsu has posted further details on the Haruhi Wii game, including images of the Fraeulein Revoltech Haruhi figure which are reproduced below:

X-Change Alternative 2 preorder open, release date confirmed

In hibernation for the past several months, following the game’s official site renewal last week news on Crowd’s upcoming X-Change Alternative 2 has been coming in fast and furious. Both the game’s official site and its Getchu product page now list the release date as July 25th (as reported earlier), and Getchu is taking preorder applications – as good a sign as we can have that the game’s production is back on track. As I type this Dream Party Tokyo 2008 Spring has just ended, where XCA2’s demo movie was shown for the first time; we’ll be watching closely for it to come online soon, because with an opening theme from Momoi Haruko and an ending from YURIA there’s bound to be some great musical accompaniment in what’s shaping up to be the most high profile offering from Crowd since the Mogudan-designed Brave Soul. We’ll keep you informed on further developments from Crowd’s gender-bending romantic comedy as they happen.

May 2nd eroge release roundup

The first eroge release weekend of May comes in like a lamb in anticipation of the wallet slaughter awaiting in the month’s final two weekends, which are stacking up to be the worst damage of 2008 in terms of must-have eroge for this addicted gamer. The current weekend’s mercifully light release schedule includes a mere three titles, which we scope out below:

Crowd’s X-Change Alternative 2 official site renewal open

For the past several months it seemed that the Crowd eroge brand was dead in the water while sister brand Anim churned out titles in rapid succession. Rumor on the Crowd blog indicated last week that we could expect an update soon though, and as promised one came yesterday in the form of a full renewal of the X-Change Alternative 2 official site. In addition to a repackaging of content already on the site several new items have been added, including new sample images (click on each individual character profile and scroll right to view). Apparently work on the title is now proceeding full steam ahead, and there’s the added bonus of the news that the game’s opening movie will debut at Dream Party Tokyo 2008 Spring this coming Saturday, March 3rd. I’m really digging the “cute and pop” design feel of the game, and have a feeling that we can expect something unique from previous games in the series with this title. It’s received a hard release date of July 25th, 2008 – here’s hoping they can hold to schedule! We’ll be keeping an eye on developments as work on the game proceeds. (no more)

April 25th eroge release roundup

It’s the first Friday of the month that’s on or after Japan’s traditional pay day of the 25th, so you know what that means – I has teh monies it’s eroge bonanza release day! We provide a rundown of the 25 new erotic game titles released today, which range from budget offerings by high profile artists (Kohaku Sumeragi, Cruccu) to high profile offerings from budget artists (the Tsuyokiss sequel) and everything in between. While there aren’t any earth-shattering games on the plate this month there’s plenty here to whet the appetite, so let’s dig right in!

Button Trance: Ar tonelico 2

One area in which HD has long been deficient is the realm of console gaming. One area in which HD’s web coding expert Jetfuel has long been proficient is, by coincidence, said console gaming – particularly of the “moe” variety that incorporates game play elements from roleplaying and tactical sims. Occasionally he gets to thinking about these things, and when he offered to put digital pen to paper and write some of those thoughts down for a new HD column I happily accepted. Here then is the first installment of Button Trance, featuring none other than Gust/Banpresto’s Ar Tonelico 2. We hope you enjoy! -Shingo

Sei Shoujo’s “Starless” official site online, details scooped

With the official publication today of the June 2008 edition of eroge magazine Tech Gian, sites for games newly featured in the issue are coming online one after another. The biggest scoop by far (in my own twisted reckoning) is the grand opening of the site for Starless, the latest eroge title from Sei Shoujo after a three year absence from the scene (and from this earthly plane, apparently). Further details and game images below:

News Flash: Sei Shoujo not dead

This is one of those wet-my-fanboy-pants moments so pardon if the words don’t come out so well, but according to the official site of eroge magazine Tech Gian, just updated with the contents of the coming issue (due out on April 21st), eroge artist and game designer Sei Shoujo (homepage, Erogamescape) IS NOT DEAD! Work is finally proceeding on Starless, the game project that lay dormant for well over a year now at the bottom of game maker Skunkworks’ product lineup page. The game was repeatedly delayed with no explanation, and Sei Shoujo’s personal site hasn’t been updated since August of 2006, and I’ve been checking both sites weekly in fear that it’ll be announced that he died of a sudden heart attack, or was abducted by aliens, or exorcised, or smothered by a gang of nymphomaniac schoolgirls.

Interestingly the new game is not being credited to Skunkworks but rather to Empress, the brand where he released his last game Cleavage before going AWOL. Little else can be divined from the single image present on the Tech Gian page, but we do know that he’s helming all aspects of the production (art, direction, and scenario), and that we can expect another “immoral story” in the mold of Bible Black and Discipline. We’ll be watching very closely for further details on this project… Tech Gian announcement image reproduced below:

April 18th eroge release roundup

Today we take a look at the new batch of eroge released the week of April 18th, 2008. It’s a typical mid-month group with a mere six new or significantly updated titles available, but it’s a nice range at that – an enhanced reissue of Puzzlebox’s romantic comedy Shutter Chance Love meets the dark new Nise Kyoushi (“false teacher”) from Nomad, with a new Nurse no Obenkyou title from Atelier-D rounding out the higher price end of the spectrum. There’s a nice futanari item from artist Q of Behind Moon on the budget end, along with two other dark school-themed budget titles that round out the week – check it out!

3D Custom Shoujo trial version

As of yesterday evening a trial version of Tech Arts 3D‘s maiden release 3D Custom Shoujo is now available for download. I put it through its paces a bit this evening and came away pleased with the result; it’s no polished piece of Illusion software, but it’s got some nice ideas that if incorporated into a broader framework could make future releases from the brand into serious contenders in the (admittedly thin) ranks of interactive 3D erogaming. Initial impressions and screenshots below:

English localized ero RPG Lightning Warrior Raidy now on sale

The fruit of the past few months on the job for me hit prime time today with the official release of Lightning Warrior Raidy. To paraphrase from last month’s announcement of “master up” status: Raidy was originally published by Japanese maker ZyX as 雷の戦士ライディ ~破邪の雷光~ (Ikazuchi no Senshi Raidi ~Haja no Raikou~) in 2005. Itself a remake of the original Ikazuchi no Senshi Raidi released for MS-DOS in 1994 as ZyX’s flagship title, the game broke ground in its day and is an enduring classic remembered fondly by an early generation of Japan’s erogamers. The ‘05 reissue has received criticism for being a literal reinterpretation of the original that didn’t stand the test of time too well, but with new artistic conception from Kazuma Muramasa and a style of play not yet seen in an English localized eroge I think it’s a game that will appeal to a pretty broad Western audience.

For more information an official site for the game is now online here. If you have a few bucks laying around that you don’t know what to do with I’d say there are worse options than supporting a fledgling industry in its attempts at world domination bringing eroge to English-speaking audiences around the world. You can support HD by purchasing Lightning Warrior Raidy at J-List, or by simply purchasing it anywhere it’s legally sold.

NEWS FLASH: Type-Moon’s next PC game unveiled

The hour is finally upon us! Four years since the release of Fate/stay night and three since hollow ataraxia, what is arguably the most potent force in visual novels of this decade has finally announced their next PC game title: Mahou Tsukai no Yoru (魔法使いの夜). Translating literally as “night of the magic user” and given the official English subtitle of Witch on the Holy Night, full details on the game will be presented in a 25-page exclusive spread in the June 2008 edition of Tech Gian magazine, on sale April 21st. The tag line on the official site reads “two witches live in the mansion on the hill” (坂の上の屋敷には、二人の魔女が住んでいる / saka no ue no yashiki ni wa, futari no majo ga sundeiru). I’ll be picking up Tech Gian as usual on the 21st, but I expect Type-Moon fans far more competent and devoted than myself will carry the story forward from here. Update: EvoSpace of Akihabara Channel has much more detailed information on what we can expect in the game. (no more)

April 4th eroge release roundup

Coming after last week’s release bonanza the first week of April was fairly light, with only three original releases and a handful of reissues newly arriving to store shelves today. The three new titles include Maika’s most recent full price offering, and new budget games from Eroro and Flap – the last of which, Bojou Ninjutsu Kunoichi PonPon!!, is my personal pick of the week. Symmetrically docking ninja girls for the win… :3 Questions are welcome as usual, and any comments on the presentation are appreciated.

Key’s “Rewrite” not a hoax

It’s the morning after April Fool’s day, and in the process of sorting out fact from yesterday’s fiction the first thing that stands out is that Key‘s announcement of their next title, Rewrite, remains unchanged. Given the combination of Tanaka Romeo (Yume Miru Kusuri, Cross Channel, Kana ~ Imouto [supposed], Kazoku Keikaku [supposed]) and Ryukishi07 (Higurashi no Naku Koro ni) on scenario duty I thought it was an unlikely project, but it seems they will in fact be collaborating to bring the next Key game to life – which means an exciting new era for the game maker who has seen most of the original writing talent that produced Kanon and Air move away in past years. My fondness for Romeo makes me curious, but the character design makes me want to retch… what to do… we’ll probably drop in on this from time to time in the future, but there are much better resources for news on this sort of thing – there’s already a Wikipedia article, for crying out loud. The Key fandom, it is insane. (no more)

March 28th eroge release roundup

An overview of 27 new eroge titles on sale this weekend (unedited reissues, “regular editions”, and value packs omitted), touching on all the major titles including the Kiminozo rerelease, new games from the Baldr and Sweet Knights teams, the latest from Black Cyc, Clockup, Studio E.go, Elf, Anim, Lilith, and a whole lot more. This post introduces a new format similar to the one I’ve been using to describe new figures, which will hopefully present the information in an easily accessible form; any comments on the post layout would be appreciated.

Majodou CG update, release date set

As G.J? usually updates their game sites on Fridays, I was resigned to another week of bleak despair after yesterday passed without an update over at the Majodou official page. It seems they were just a bit behind schedule, though, and pulled through with an update today that consists of both a renewal of the page layout (with a great new splash image on the front page), five new Sample CG images, and the news that the game is officially scheduled for release on May 30th. Nine weeks to wait… doesn’t sound quite so long that way, actually. :3 We’ll be on the lookout for further updates on this Sano Toshihide-designed game over the coming weeks. (no more)

Lightning Warrior Raidy goes gold

English language eroge localization company JAST USA‘s partner brand G-Collections yesterday announced the gold status of Lightning Warrior Raidy, originally published by Japanese maker ZyX as 雷の戦士ライディ ~破邪の雷光~ (Ikazuchi no Senshi Raidi ~Haja no Raikou~) in 2005. Itself a remake of the original Ikazuchi no Senshi Raidi released for MS-DOS in 1994 as ZyX’s flagship title, the game broke ground in its day and is an enduring classic remembered fondly by an early generation of Japan’s erogamers. The ’05 reissue has received criticism for being a literal reinterpretation of the original that didn’t stand the test of time too well, but with new artistic conception from Kazuma Muramasa and a novel concept not yet seen in English I think it’s a game that will appeal to a pretty broad Western audience. It’s expected to retail in early April at $24.95 USD (package version), with download purchase available two weeks later.

In related news, G-Collections announced the acquisition and development of the Raidy sequel, Lightning Warrior Raidy II: ~Temple of Desire~. The sequel brings Raidy’s adventures to a new level with several enhancements to the game system, a much bigger game world and dozens of new NPCs, and is currently in development with release projected for late 2008 or early ’09. If you’ve been waiting for something other than the typical “choose your own adventure”-style visual novel, I’d recommend the Raidy games as a nice change of pace – they won’t dazzle you with outstanding gameplay or graphical splendor, but they’re a fun way to pass the time that combines dungeon crawling and nekkid monster girls, a combination that is surely one of great (if not greatest) victory.

Yep, this is what I do for a living. (no more)

Majodou “Ace Combat”-style image movie now available

The official site for the newest Sano Toshihide tour de force eroge Majodou was updated this evening with the download availability of a second demo movie, this one an “image movie” in the style of Ace Combat (only with witches on broomsticks instead of fighter jets). The production value is remarkable for a game of this rank, and the video features a lot of fancy After Effects animation – definitely worth checking out, even though none of the game’s main characters make an appearance and no ero content is to be had. Can’t wait for next week’s update! (no more)
