Mainichi Junk: C73 roundup, anime news, etc.

It’s a general roundup of news from the past few days in another installment of the increasingly inaccurately named Mainichi Junk! We’ve got stuff from all corners of the otakuverse today, starting with a heaping helping of Comic Market 73 (the latest on Momoi’s AX DVD, Keumaya’s new doujin figure project, and hug pillows galore), new moves on the anime scene (trailers for Mnemosyne, Code Geass season 2, and Kite Liberator), eroanime news (featuring a new Pixy title in the “valkyrie vs. orc” genre), a few bits of figure gossip (Orchid’s Erika shipping for reals, Donne Anonime too, and Shuraki mangafication) and a new MOSAIC.WAV eroge movie that is certainly worth your viewing time.

Anime News: Code Geass Season 2 confirmed for Spring ’08

Via Moon Phase Diary: This month’s edition of Newtype, due out on December 10th, will confirm the speculated airing of the second season of Code Geass TV anime starting in the spring (April) of 2008, according to advance notice obtained by Moon Phase. Recent speculation had it that Geass would be inserted in the break between two half-year seasons of Gundam 00 in the Saturday evening prime time slot on the TBS network, and while we don’t have confirmation of this detail it seems likely to be the case; we’ll bring further information on this development as we obtain it. In other news, the same Moon Phase post reports that Macross F will air next spring as well; seems like an epic science fiction season in the making! Thanks to Rawshark for the tipoff on this. Figure News: Hobby Japan January 2008 leftovers

We’ve already scooped the bulk of what was new in this month’s issue of Hobby Japan, but after getting my hands on an actual copy of the magazine last night I noticed a few other odds and ends that might be of interest. Includes updates from Witchblade, Kimikiss, Code Geass, Queen’s Blade, Bible Black, and Nitro+ character designer Niθ; details below:

Anime News: Gundam 00 season 2 in October 2008, Geass 2 in April?

Joining the chorus of bajillions of other anime blogs that have no doubt already reported on this, Moon Phase diary posted early this morning with the news that a second season of Gundam 00 is scheduled to air in October of 2008. Speculation arose when it was first revealed that 00 would only run for half a year that it would be followed in its coveted Saturday evening prime time slot by a second season of Code Geass, and while this has not been confirmed the news that the slot will be vacant from April through September is highly suggestive – something has to go there, so why not make it a show that’s actually good? Haven’t had one of those since FMA… we’ll be keeping a close eye out for any further news of a possible Geass sequel. (no more)

Figure News: Alpha Omega’s C.C. and Karen from Code Geass up for preorder

Hobby Stock has the distinction today of being the first to list the maiden launch figures of Alpha Omega‘s PVC lineup: Karen and C.C. from Code Geass. We reported yesterday that Alpha Omega’s official site had just opened with a showcase of these two figures (first introduced at last summer’s Wonder Festival), and as anticipated the turnaround to their preorder listing was speedy indeed. With Hobby Stock leading the charge other shops can be expected to soon follow; without knowing the numbers in the production run for these I’d advise a prompt preorder if you really want them, as the popularity of Geass (combined with the Alter / Megahouse reputation for quality) can’t be underestimated. Update: we now have confirmation of the listing, as they’re both up at Amiami and have been restored at Hobby Stock as well. (no more)

Figure News: Alter / Megahouse collaboration brand Alpha Omega official site launched

First announced at Wonder Festival 2007 Summer, the “Alpha Omega” figure brand that is a collaboration between Alter and Megahouse put its official site online today. Two figures are featured in conjunction with the site launch: the Code Geass C.C. and Karen PVCs that we’ve reported on twice before. They’re confirmed as due out in February of next year at 1/8 scale and 5,775 yen each; now that the official site is up I’m guessing it’ll be a matter of (relatively little) time before we see preorders for them. The vigil begins… (no more)

Wonder Festival 2007 Summer: Alter / Megahouse lineup

Alter and Megahouse both represented with some delicious items at Wonder Festival, offerings made all the more intriguing due to what seems to be a robust partnership emerging between the two companies spanning several projects over the coming months. Are they positioning themselves to rival the Goodsmile / Max Factory coalition (which Alter left behind only recently)? We’ll be watching… for now, the scoops:

Wonder Festival 2007 Summer: Code Geass kits

We begin our Wonder Festival garage kit coverage today with a look at the array of Code Geass figures on display at the event. The popularity of the anime at the time circle applications were due last spring, along with Bandai’s relaxed restrictions, resulted in a bumper crop of really nice kits that I’m guessing we’re only going to be seeing more of in the future – great news for all the Geass fans out there.

Figure News: Wonder Festival’s blockbuster kit unveiled? Jet Stream’s C.C.

Here’s one that slipped through the cracks in our survey of the new garage kits present at this summer’s Wonder Festival, and it’s a doozy. Circle Jet Stream just finished the coloring job on their Code Geass C.C. kit, and thus far it’s ranking as the closest thing to this year’s Bubba Haruhi I’ve seen from anyone yet. Wow. WOW. …yeah. Pictures below:

Figure News: Code Geass resin kit green lighted for Wonder Festival, Bandai figure monopoly cracks

Hatsumi of sculpting circle 83℃ posted on his blog a few weeks ago to the effect that his C.C. resin kit had been given the OK for sale at Wonder Festival 2007 Summer. This is significant not only because it’s looking like a really nice kit, but also because it indicates a shift in Bandai policy toward figures based on its intellectual property. More below:

Anime News: Code Geass season two confirmed (maybe)

Via Misu: Random Curiosity reported yesterday that the latest issue of TVstation magazine states in passing that a second season of Geass will be airing beginning this October. Omni cautions in his post that this mention shouldn’t be construed as final absolute proof of what most of us have taken on faith for awhile now, and I agree, but it’s nice to see that if we’re wrong there will be egg on the face of a major Japanese magazine, too. Visual evidence of the listing can be found in a photograph linked at the bottom of the Random Curiosity post. (no more)

Anime News: Code Geass ep. 24-25 promo up at Biglobe

Via Moon Phase: the official Code Geass site has updated with a promotional video for the upcoming theatrical / online / televised broadcast of episodes 24 and 25 of the series. It’s hosted by Biglobe, so some dastardly combination of Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player and Flash is required to view; it’s worth it though, as it seems there’s a whole lot they’ll be packing into these two “final” episodes… after poking around a bit it seems that the only confirmation regarding a sequel is that there will be one, though there is still no official news as to what form it will take or when it will be broadcast (if at all). Here’s hoping the rumors of another 25 episode season airing in the fall are true. (no more)

Anime News (?): Code Geass chichikurabe

Via Moeyo: Japanese blog Nijigen Kuukan (二次元空間) has posted a thorough treatise on the bust sizes of virtually the entire female cast of Code Geass. After analyzing screen shots of from as many official sources as possible they come up with the following order: Millay > Marianne > Inoue > Karen > Cornelia > Viletta > Cecil > Chiba > Rakshata > Euphemia > Shirley > C.C. > Sayoko > Nina > Nanalie > Kaguya. I was sure that Cornelia would come out on top, but this is incontrovertible evidence otherwise… Millay has risen in my esteem considerably. In other random Geass ponderings, I finally made it through ep. 23 on the plane back from AX. Does anyone think they’ll be able to reach a satisfactory conclusion in the two remaining episodes? And why did I think for the longest time that a full second season was coming? (no more) Edit: Geass character designer Kimura Takahiro (Wikipedia) presented his own take on comparative bust sizes of a selection of the cast in the June issue of Animage, as shown here. The Nijigen Kuukan post displays these characters first, with the remaining unmentioned characters below. The Nijigen Kuukan list is a hybrid integration of both groups.
