Figure News: Goodsmile, Max Factory present Corticarte Apa Lagranges, Kino, Aisaka Taiga

We’ve mentioned them here at various times over the past couple of months (with the exception of Kino, I think), but now it’s official: December ’07 will see the release of Shinkyoku Soukai Polyphonica‘s Corticarte Apa Lagranges and Kino no Tabi‘s Kino from Goodsmile, and Toradora!‘s Aisaka Taiga from Max Factory. Corticarte retails at 6,300 yen, with Kino at 4,800 and Taiga at 5,800. Now that they’ve been unleashed on Goodsmile’s official site we can expect preorder listings to appear soon… (no more)

Pure Love Renaissance : Comic Market 72

Shipon deals out on his Comiket 72 experience covering sunburn, long lines, cosplay, an HD meetup, record numbers and how a good night’s sleep can make a BIG difference when a 5 hour lineup awaits.

Event Report: Comic Market 72, day 1

A quick rundown of the first day of Comic Market 72, from one man’s perspective (Shipon will be along later with a bunch of much nicer pictures, including cosplay, so be sure to stop back for that~). Day one verdict: fucking hot, but fun in hindsight.

[ERO] Goods News: Sano Toshihide artbook coming from Kill Time Communication on August 31st

In the course of browsing the internets this morning I came across an entry on [ERO] Kill Time Communication‘s website that grabbed my attention like a lariat around the neck and made me sit up and take notice in several different ways: it seems they’re putting out a book entitled Sano Toshihide Illustrations at the end of this very month, featuring 96 (full color?) pages and a pinup poster illustrated by none other than my personal deity Sano Toshihide. In the midst of August convention season here this is a bit of news that just couldn’t wait… I can’t say how incredibly awesome this is, especially seeing that it contains work from his entire career, from his work with Ripe all the way through the newest G.J? titles, and seems to have a lot of publicity material that hasn’t been otherwise available before. We’ll be keeping a very close eye on this as further information comes to light. :3 Book cover image below:

Wonder Festival 2007 Summer: garage kits by source

This post contains a bunch of garage kit shots from Wonder Festival broken down by source, including items from Evangelion, various fighting games, Gurren Lagann, Kimikiss, Queen’s Blade, Sengoku Rance, Rozen Maiden, and the To Heart franchises (mostly To Heart 2). Note: while this post is not tagged as [ERO], it does contain a few ero kits.

Wonder Festival 2007 Summer: Alter / Megahouse lineup

Alter and Megahouse both represented with some delicious items at Wonder Festival, offerings made all the more intriguing due to what seems to be a robust partnership emerging between the two companies spanning several projects over the coming months. Are they positioning themselves to rival the Goodsmile / Max Factory coalition (which Alter left behind only recently)? We’ll be watching… for now, the scoops:

[ERO] Figure News: cast-off checkup

In the prurient interests of comprehensive figure coverage, some updates on a few of the items we’ve been following here recently: Akiba Blog scoops the castoffability of Megahouse’s soon to be released Queen’s Blade Tomoe figure, albeit the limited color edition. Updated Amiami listings also bring good news, in the form of new shots of Taki Corporation’s ero-ero Kanu Unchou Ikkitousen kit and Movic’s recently announced Sekirei Tsukiumi and Matsu; relevant images reproduced below:

Figure News: Max Factory’s Aisaka Taiga and Tenori Tiger PVC, in color

Max Factory’s staff blog updated yesterday with images of the finished color prototype of their upcoming Tenori (hand-riding) Tiger-equipped Aisaka Taiga PVC figure. Taiga is the heroine of Takemiya Yuyuko’s serial novel Toradora!, a work that just launched a manga version in this month’s Dengeki Gao and seems headed on a collision course for animefication in the near future; character design and illustration work for the novel is handled by Yasu, and Max’s rendition is looking faithful enough to hook fans of the franchise both present and future. I’m guessing we can look for a preorder up for this within the next few weeks. (no more)

Figure News: Max Factory Emiya Kiritsugu PVC (Fate/zero version) listed at Amazon

Emiya Kiritsugu, Shirou’s enigmatic foster father in Fate / stay night and one of the main characters of the serial novel Fate/zero, is being made into a figure by Max Factory – or so says this Amazon page. While it’s not a full fledged preorder listing yet it does note that the figure is scheduled for release in January of 2008; this may be a spoiler for a scoop meant for Wonder Festival this weekend, so perhaps we should pretend we didn’t see it… Edit: lu-k notes that both this and the earlier announced Saber/zero were on display at Chara City in Akihabara on July 27th (Moeyo scoop). Figure News: Kotobukiya blitz! Moetan trading figures, Shining Wind Xecty, Another Days Chie up for preorder

In addition to the Pani Poni Dash trading figures we reported on earlier today, preorder pages are now up around the interwebs for Kotobukiya’s earlier scooped Shining Wind Xecty and To Heart 2 Another Days Chie, as well as a partial reissue of their earlier released Moetan trading figure set (this one augmented with several limited edition repaints). All three items are set for release in November. (no more)

Figure News: pages up for Saber / Zero, Swimsuit Masane and Rihoko, and Pani Poni Dash trading figures

A bunch of great figure news in this morning, mostly confirming earlier scoops: Goodsmile represents first with an official page for Max Factory’s December release Saber / Zero from Fate / Zero, then online shop Sorio with a preorder page for the October-release Toranoana swimsuit ver. Masane and Rihoko from Witchblade that we scooped a week or so ago; Kotobukiya rounds things off with official notice and promo material for their December release Pani Poni Dash trading figure set. Edit: the preorders are already going up at Amiami, so activity should be starting elsewhere soon as well. Pictures below:

Figure Review: Max Factory’s Haruhi PVC from Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu

After missing all three release waves of Max Factory’s incredibly popular Haruhi figure I wasn’t planning to pick her up, but when I came upon her by chance yesterday at a decent price I couldn’t resist the temptation. What follows is a cursory review of a figure roughly five months old; not much to see here, but humor a fellow, eh?

[ERO] Doujin News: English textbook parody to see Comiket release

Via Pink Company and Canned Dogs: The third day of Comic Market 72 (Sunday, August 19th) will see the sale of Shin Iyarashii Kyoukasho (“New Lewd Textbook” – click on the lower white text link for samples), a parody of the New Crown junior high school English textbook series known and loved hated by legions of English students and teachers throughout Japan, myself included. Whether on the giving or receiving end of these books they have many tempestuous and morbid fantasies attached to them already, so they’re a welcome target for a quality bit of ero parody… This new release from circle Tsukinowa / Iyarashii Kyoukasho wo Tsukuru Kai (“Let’s make a dirty textbook group”) comes after the online release several years ago of an initial twelve page New Crown parody that made the rounds of image boards as a cult classic; I was unaware of the source until Zepy unearthed it, kudos to him for that. It turns out that a Google search for “NEW CROWN 教科書” turns up the parody as its first result, though; I’d imagine Sanseido wouldn’t be too happy if they knew. The new book will be on sale in block katakana “Pi”, space 15-a for those able to make the event. (no more)

Figure News: Goodsmile presents Corticarte Apa Lagranges, in PVC, from Shinkyoku Soukai Polyphonica

GA Graphic has just posted a thorough visual preview of an upcoming Corticarte figure announced from the wizards at Goodsmile. Based on the incorrigibly named heroine of the Polyphonica visual novel and anime (etc.), she’s due out in November at 19 cm (1/8 scale) with price yet determined. Arakawa Hiroshi of circle Almight (Happyhobby) (Amiami search) is on sculpting duty, with original designs from Kannatsuki Noboru (Wikipedia). Bit of a boring item in my opinion, but I’m sure there are Polyphonica fans out there who would beg to differ… (no more)

Anime News: Maria-sama ga Miteru season 4 announced

Via Cobalt, via the AnimeSuki forums, via Densetsu Shoujo: The August 2007 issue of Cobalt (the magazine in which the Marimite novels are serialized) is reporting that the popular yuri-themed Catholic girls’ school slice of life story will be seeing continued anime adaptation beyond the current “third season” OVAs. The format for this fourth season has yet to be announced, but this is superb news for those of us who suffered through the desert between the second and third seasons, and fans of delicious yuri romance everywhere are now dancing sipping tea quietly in the streets. Gokigenyou! (no more)

Figure News: Max Factory piles on to the “Saber Zero” bandwagon with a PVC in December

Nearly simultaneously with Alter’s announcement of a pair of figures based on the Fate/Zero novels, Hobby Channel brings the news that Max Factory is is developing its own “Saber Zero” PVC kit set for release in December. Pricing details are unknown, but the combination of a fresh look and sculptor Kuroda Makoto’s solid credentials are sure to attract interest in the kit despite one of the most boring poses known to man. She comes with a retrofittable Excalibur, but I have a feeling that addition would only serve to make her more still-life in the Napoleonic sense… She just needs to stick her hand between those buttons. Figure News: Alter announces limited edition business suit Saber, Irisviel PVCs for August release

Alter has a page up on their official site today for a limited edition pair of figures from Type-Moon’s Fate franchise (the new Fate/Zero novels, specifically), including a smartly dressed corporate Saber and the first figure incarnation of Iriya’s mother, Irisviel. The set is limited to a production run of 5,000 units, half of which will retail at Wonder Festival Summer 2007 on August 12th with the other 2,500 to be made available via general sales outlets. Sets will street for 3,000 yen for the pair of ~14 cm figures, with sculpting duty handled by Adachi Akatsuki (Saber) and Numakura Toshiaki (Irisfiel). I’m glad Alter is going the sensible route here and releasing half of the batch via online stores, as this will allow those of us unable to make it to the event a fighting chance at scoring the set for a reasonable price, and hopefully place downward pressure on the secondary auction market in the process. Edit: further info on Fate/Zero can be found at its Wikipedia entry. (no more)

Anime News: Moetan anime screenshots, voice actor interviews online

From the incredibly ancient and already scooped to death news division: last Friday Famitsu posted a bunch of screenshots and a cast interview from this summer’s upcoming Moetan anime. While it’s a bit sad when you can tell from the sample screens that no particular attention has been paid to anything but the characters, I doubt anyone watching this (myself included) will be doing so for the panoramic backdrops or pulse pounding THREE-DEE ACTION. For those repulsed by Famitsu’s horribly artifacted jpgs presents a prettier alternative with much the same content. You know it’s a moe sign when the three lead seiyuu respond to a question regarding the English they’ve learned recently with “apple”, “this is a pen”, and “Happy!” respectively… For the uninitiated, Moetan is a series of otaku-oriented English phrasebooks combining POP designs with quirkily translated references to anime and manga in a format that has proven to be both memetic and moetic. I hope rq will resurrect his random Moetan phrase script in commemoration of the anime, perhaps as a Wordpress plugin… (no more)

Figure News: Goodsmile / RED Entertainment’s Shuraki vol. 1 for sale, sold

As of midnight tonight, June 20th (eight minutes ago as I type this) the first installment of the Shuraki original figure / artbook / drama CD collaboration series from Goodsmile and RED Entertainment went up for preorder. This first “trinity box” release features original character Mishiro Akatsuki, designed by Migarashi Aki and sculpted by zenko of circle Iousen. This first limited edition box release due out in September consists of 5,000 units, containing the figure itself (with interchangeable parts), a 92-minute drama spanning two CDs and featuring some of Japan’s finest voice talent , and a 24-page A5 size booklet with production art and other material. At 4,800 yen price point this is a staggeringly good deal, and one that’s definitely worth looking into if you can find her in stock anywhere after tonight’s rather vicious run on the market. I have to say that hair does look rather silly, though… Edit: a list of officially authorized Shuraki vendors can be found here. It looks like HLJ will be getting it, as will Hobby Search, so stay on guard for the preorder listings. (no more)

Figure News: Goodsmile collective presents Tsukimiya Ayu, Kasugano Haruna, Intron Depot Space Pirates PVCs, live in October

Goodsmile updated their official site today with listings for Max Factory’s Tsukimiya Ayu from Kanon, their own Kasugano Haruna from Boy Meets Girl, and Beagle’s Intron Depot #4 Space Pirates from… Intron Depot #4. We saw the Ayu coming a long way away, but the new Boy Meets Girl and Intron Depot offerings are a surprise… being the shameless cast off fan that I am I’ll be curious to see what Amiami has to show us this evening for the latter. :3 (no more)

Figure News: Haruhi manga vol. 4 limited edition released, complete with Haruhi figure

Via Akiba Blog: The fourth volume of the Kadokawa Shounen Ace-serialized Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu manga was released today in limited edition, complete with a small Haruhi figure produced by Megahouse. Nothing further to report on this, really; the quality looks about as good as you’d expect, not much to get too excited about unless you’re a die hard member of the SOS-dan’s figure division (in which case Haruhi demands that you buy it now). Anime News: Famitsu scoops Zero no Tsukaima season two, figure series announced

The first still shots from Zero no Tsukaima season 2 have made their way online today courtesy of Famitsu, along with character designs and a list of the main cast and staff. With a new director and several other key staff changed from the first series much is still uncertain, but the familiar visuals are reassuring… as long as they keep the sparkly scene wipes intact I’ll be happy. In other 0nT news, a line of figures of the main cast has been announced by Comic Alive, where the manga is serialized. Unfortunately it seems that to acquire them you have to buy two copies of the magazine per character and make a trip to the post office for a 1,000 yen postal money order; an awfully lame set of conditions for a ~10 cm figure. I may just go for the Kirche, though. :3 (no more)

Figure News: Freeing’s 1/4 scale Tsuruya-san PVC up at Goodsmile

We scooped her the other day in our coverage of July’s issue of Hobby Japan, and now Goodsmile has updated their official site with a page for Freeing’s 1/4 scale Tsuruya-san PVC from Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu. She clocks in at 33 cm in height and at 11,800 yen retail is priced slightly higher than the Haruhi and Mikuru that preceded her in the series; due no doubt to both the standing pose and the glorious mass of hair she’s weighed down with. Looks like a very nice kit overall, but I can’t help but wonder how well she’ll balance with those dimensions… we’ll have the chance to find out come her release in August. (no more)

Figure News: Max Factory announces Haruhi’s Asakura Ryouko for September release

An entry went up at Goodsmile HQ today for the latest PVC figure to be announced in Max Factory’s Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu series, Asakura Ryouko. While it’s looking like a quality figure on par with other offerings from sculptor Koshinuma Shinji (Amiami page), I think I speak for many when I say: where’s the Tsuruya?! After the main trio she’s definitely the most popular character from the show, and she’s got a Nendoroid option built in. The only reason I could see for a delay is that they may be negotiating such an option even now…

At least Asakura comes with a knife. (no more)

Figure News: Toys Works announces Vispo-sculpted “Gaku-ran” Haruhi PVC

This one has me pretty excited: Getchu posted a listing last night for what Toys Works is calling a Gaku-ran version Haruhi PVC figure (from Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu, of course). Running down the specs it seems she’s 1/8 scale, 19 cm tall and comes with removable jacket (and skirt?). While by and large I haven’t bought into Haruhi figure mania I was immediately attracted by this kit due to the great dynamic balance of the sculpt and original take on Itou Noiji‘s design; the reason for this was revealed when I noticed sculpting duty is being handled by Katagiri Katsuhiro of Vispo, one of my all time favorite sculptors. This will be a definite purchase for me when she comes out in September, though I’m sure opinions will differ; definition of “gaku-ran” and kit pictures follow:

Book News: Queen’s Blade Nix and Merfa get street dates, teaser images

The two latest entries in Hobby Japan’s line of Queen’s Blade fighting game books based on Flying Buffalo’s Lost Worlds game mechanic were given a street date of June 29th yesterday, and today Hobby Channel represents with the first teaser images from their gorgeously illustrated inner pages. While recent doujin events have been all Cattleya all the time, I’m guessing Nix is going to be the new hot item gracing doujin covers in late summer and early fall. I tried drawing her myself and it’s not exactly easy, but I know there are plenty of Kuroki Masahiro fans out there ready and willing to carry the torch… (no more)

Figure News: Wave presents their 20th anniversary soft-chested Mikuru PVC, extended Haruhi lineup

Wave put up an official page today for the release of their 20th anniversary commemorative Asahina Mikuru PVC from Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu. Like the recently released plainclothes Witchblade Masane figure from Alter this Mikuru comes equipped with a “soft material” chest part for enhanced tactile pleasure; personally I think they did it purely as an excuse to create this anigif; details and picture gallery follow:

Event Report: “Maritan to Hanasou!” Book Signing

In the midst of my trip to Tokyo last weekend, my keitai rings. It’s Shingo. “Hello? What’s up? We still meeting today?” I ask. “Maritan to Hanasou signing event at K-Books in Akiba. Starts at 11. I can’t get in in time. Can you make it?” comes the distorted voice (his phone ain’t so good) of HDs Editor-In-Chief. “Hell’s yeah,” I reply, looking at the nearest subway clock. “I can be there in 10 minutes,” I say. The next train is coming in 5 minutes and I have to travel one stop then change from subway to JR Line.

[ERO] Figure Review: Orchid Seed’s Chichinoe + (plus) Cover Girl PVC

Orchid Seed represented last week with their latest assay in the PVC craft, this extremely (nay voluptuously) endowed kit based on the cover illustration of Inoue Takuya’s Chichinoe+ artbook. How does this offering stack up against other recently released figures? Let’s just say I’m more than happy to return to the warm, fluffy pillows of large chested fandom after a brief flirtation with the other side

Anime News: MOETAN. a super vocabulary handbook is now enchanted to animation!

For those unfamiliar with the franchise, Moetan is a series of Japanese-to-English phrasebooks ostensibly targeted at otaku who cannot process new information save through their favorite anime catch phrases delivered by a POP-rendered mascot character. Clicking on either of the above links will direct you to the same place: the official site for the new Moetan anime, announced today and slated to air in July.

While the quality of the English renderings has steadily improved over the book series’ three installments and various side releases, the text on the official anime site promises more of the delicious moe Engrish we’ve come to know and love. There are a lot of details about this that could make or break the Anglo-moe quotient, and you can be sure we’ll have an eye on them over the coming months… (no more)
