DOH! Thanks, DocWatson.

My timeline for various significant events seemed out of sorts lately...guess I'm getting old. 8p

Yeah. Gunbuster does precede Otaku by a few years.

Yeah. Gunbuster. My introduction to big bouncy anime.

OVA rules, although it wasn't until recently I really learned to appreciate it. Guess you have to see it a few times to really, really start liking it.

blacklotus:

> I believe Misty May from this anime is the one that introduces the term
> Gainax-Bounce to the world. 8D

Actually, it was Noriko in episode 1 of _Gunbuster_.

:::

Note that the bishoujo game featured in the live action segment is _Dennou Gakuen_:

Good god, I ran across this VHS tape earlier this week when I was cleaning my office. I don't think I've watched it let alone seen it since 1992, either.

This is the anime that made me cringe for being an anime fan. I literally yelled at the screen, "Don't go there! You have a cute girlfriend and a life! Don't go there!"

I loved these OVA's when I first saw them in the mid 90's - then when first I saw Genshiken I thought, that looks familiar!

>>there’s something about seeing actual cel animation at OVA-level quality which always warms the heart.

Amen bro.

When I first watched Otaku no Video a lot of it went over my head. However, upon subsequent viewings, I started to like it a lot more. Watching lots of 80s anime really helps!

It certainly is an interesting look back into the fandom of the times. I'd be interesting to see a modern production take on a similar subject matter.
