As was the case last year, HD is once again representing at next weekend’s Anime Expo! I’ll be selling games at the J-List booth all four days of the event, and we’re doing a panel on Saturday night (8-9 PM, room LP4) for those interested in developments on the bishoujo game scene.
I’d love to chat with anyone who feels like coming by (and maybe go out for a drink afterwards if we can get a decent group together), so if you’re going to be at the event please do say hi. I’ll be the tall, balding guy with glasses trying to explain that “no, these aren’t anime”, for reference. Leaving on the plane to LA tomorrow morning, so if I’m not around for the next couple of days that’s why (as opposed to not being around for the past week or so, which can be blamed on an entirely different pastime)…
I may be in big, big trouble.
ahh WoW…the devil lol
Fortunately for me I just couldn’t get into it for more than 2 months at a time, only coming back to try again with friends… Been pretty burned out on mmorpgs after doin FFXI decently hardcore.
Were you around with J-list back in 2003? I was workin AX registration volunteer there and wandered around the dealer’s hall one day and I think it was maybe either J-list or PeachPrincess booth or something (probably PP), they had some japanese girl playin rock paper scissors with a bunch of guys lined up. Whoever won got a little collectible figure of a character from the game Private Nurse. Everybody got 3 chances…lost the first two, but got her on my third lol. Got the figure, but unfortunately it looks hideous lol
Shingo, this isn’t related to your post, but many apologies, I would like to enquire about something…
Naruko Hanaharu tankoubon is out in stores already, as scooped by HD here: http://heiseidemocracy.com/2008/04/07/preorder-open-for-hanaharu-adult-manga-compilation-shoujo-material/
Would you be so kind to post the usual online store links that ship internationally here? :) Was hoping jlist has them..
Ahh Diablo III
I watched the 19min gameplay footage on Gametrailers.com a couple of days ago, I was greatly impressed. I played Diablo II for only a short time but did actually like it since it had the D&D style of monters and gameplay, much like Baldur’s Gate which I also loved.
Hoping the online play is fantastic, might pull me away from FFXI, something Conan has failed to do.

Interesting that this says opens July 3. I wonder if they will have any contacts at AX. Looking forward to the online report of your panel for those of us who won’t be there.
Come to New york Anime Festival!!
Looking forward to seeing you again!
well be there! see you over there shingo!
Good to hear you’re still alive Shingo. Have a safe flight across the Pacific!
Driving down to LA today. See you there!
Have fun at expo. I won’t be going this year as i was turned off by last years fiasco. Meh.
I’ve lost too many friends and co-workers to WoW. Eventually I’ll have to start playing if I want to maintain a social life, however ironic that is.
Shingo, you almost had me worried that I lost one of my source for otaku resources, nevertheless, welcome back! And yes, WoW = evil = no no! :P
Off to catch the plane – those who will be there, see you! Those who won’t – I’ll be in touch. Great hearing from everyone, and look for more updates soon!
A few notes:
MangaGamer.com is intriguing; they’re looking a lot like a European version of what we’re doing at JAST USA. It’ll be interesting to see how they present themselves at AX (at the Broccoli booth, apparently) as well as how their online service ends up working.
>>hitoshura
I’ll check around for listings for the Hanaharu book. I know J-List was going to try to get it in, but whether they’ll ultimately be able to sell it or not (due to loli content) isn’t settled yet.
See you at your booth, definitely lets grab lunch with CMWilly too.
Shingo, you’re going?
Im still undecided to go to AX, since I’m new to California and fail with directions there, especially the left hand side driving :(
Besides, I hardly know anyone local IRL.
*Oh, Im staying in Lake Forest for a while
Mangagamer is localizing Da Capo?
I hope this isn’t vaporware like Hirameki’s staggering list of games when they made their debut announcement all those years ago.
Have fun Shingo!!
Thanx for the Diablo 3 heads up- I love Diablo 2 and was immersed in it for a long time until City of Heroes came out- but as a fan of the Diablo series I can wait to see it.
Have fun, Shingo. Unfortunately I won’t make it to this year’s AX, so I will miss to see you again (I passed by your booth in last year’s AX).
Please let us know about the experience on the new location. One of the reason why our group decided to pass this year was because of the supposedly bad reputation of the area. If this year’s AX is successful we will strongly consider to go next year.
Oh god, yah. I was addicted to WoW from the release until shortly after the expansion so, yah, you are in BIG trouble. lol
Have a great time at AX, wish I could meet up with ya’ll but I’ve been saving my vacation (and cash) for the big con at the end of July in San Diego.
I was planning to go to the Expo this year but can’t make it due to unexpected financial issues, which saddens me. I hope you’ll be there next year though since I’m definitely going!
Good Luck trying to break out of WOW’s intoxicating grip. Luckily for me, I’m located in SG, and hence blessed with a superbly high latency cable ‘broadband’ from the only Govt monopoly company. Which translate to super lousy playing experience.
Diablo 3 on the other hand, is gonna be making me go a week without a shower, as is Starcraft 2.
Same with Nyx, I would love to go to one of these conventions (in USA or Japan), which when compared to the just ended Comics and Toys convention in SG, just blows what we have here in SG. It’s like comparing a Category 5 cyclone to a spring breeze.
Hope I have the cash next time.
I flew in this morning. Stupid bomb scare shut down LAX right as I landed. :P
I’ll see you at the J-list booth! :)
Have fun! I won’t be there as I’m going to a wedding in Essex, Great Britain.
>>Sydney2K
I took the bus to Essex from Cambridge the other day, and my bus driver hit a cyclist.
BE CAREFUL.
>>km (shouldn’t you be called miles?)
I was NOT on that bus!
>> everyone going to AX
Apparently there will be a Heisei Democracy panel!!
(jumps into Tardis)
Sorry, panel was cancelled, Shingo didn’t turn up… something to do with free wireless in the hotel, laptop, and WoW…
Nice leekspin, Shingo!
@Sydney2K : wat??!! no shoko-tan coverage?
unPOSSIBLE!
Hey Shingo! I’m that weird girl with the pink “I Am Boss” shirt from Saturday. Just commenting with my usual name in case you were wondering who the heck I was. :)
@Shingo So how was it? Reports I have been reading has it that this year was a vast improvement in all areas. I’d be interested in your take.
Sydney2K is now in Cardiff, geeking out at the Doctor Who exhibition.
It was awesome hanging out with you Shingo. Hope the trip back wasn’t too bad. If nothing else, I guess I shall see you at NatsuKet.
I’d be interested to know what’s been happening at all, since this site’s really not in low pwer but almost no power! A lot’s happened in all forms of the mediums you cover, but it’s not that – it’s the not knowing if you’re even alive and well that’s quite alarming to us..
Is there an echo in here..? -/-
Maybe Shingo went to Malibu for a timeout/vacation
@__@
@ejump
Worse- he’s surrended to WoW…
Well, I’d say I have been taking Shingo and his HeiseiDemocracy for granted but I know I haven’t. It’s been clear to me that for what Shingo covers for us English speakers really is peerless. Shingo you don’t seem to show it, but it’s clear to me that no one provides this sort of resource, and really is peerless for English speakers.
I mean, there are a handful of people like Danny Choo, but pfft, I’d say that what Shingo does for figure enthusiasts is beyond just a Danny Choo-like blog, it’s thorough and touches every figure I have a remote interest in, and has way more value considering his preferences. What Shingo does would be competent for a small team of journalists trying to cover the medium as it appears to me, and it seems to be mostly driven simply by his will and enthusiam, as proof by his recent burn-out and room to be abducted by WoW.
At times like these I wish Shingo did have more incentive to be giving us this resource, for example, I for one would definately pay for a subscription if needed. Shingo, the peerless and invaluable service you give to us along with the will and effort it takes to provide it is not lost on me.
Might I suggest a burn-out-resistant schedule that is much less packed than a Mainichi post and a bit less frequent, because really, I don’t think anyone has expectations as big as those Mainichi posts. I’d save that for if you did have a small team of journalists.
Oh, and when I say peerless I mean it. If Shingo quit completely, I mean really, is there a replacement? I haven’t found one.
@Sydney2k
Are you serious? Damn, I can’t understand why people get so addicted to Wow … :(
Well, I know he said it, but to completely let the site go..what if something happens quite badly to the server or something? O_o Will he know about it? #_#
Shingo! Come back from Azeroth! The community needs you.
