Black hair Chichinoe+ reissue announced

Figure maker Orchid Seed updated their official site today with a listing for a black hair version reissue of their Chichinoe+ figure. Her specifications are identical to the original blond version released last year, with a sculpt from Ishiyama Satoshi, 1/6 scale (actually closer to 1/8 at 21 cm long), 6,800 yen retail, with release planned for August (expected in January or February of next year). The design is from the cover of Inoue Takuya’s Chichinoe+ artbook; further details are available at our review of the original release. Images below:

Arm your drills, ladies and gentlemen – Eye Up’s Kamina and Yoko

Formerly credited as a producer subcontracted to figure projects by other brands (notably Megahouse), today figure maker Eye Up announced the independent formation of its own eponymous figure brand with the unveiling of two items we’ve seen before in resin: Black Sabbath’s Kamina and Mesuka’s Yoko from Gainax giant robot anime Gurren Lagann. Kamina is scheduled for release in late August at 8,190 yen retail, 1/8 scale (26 cm tall), and comes with detachable cape and shades. Yoko is likewise 1/8 scale and 8,190 yen retail, 21 cm tall with release coming in September. Both are finished PVC models. Images below:

Hobby Japan July 2008 preview 2 (updated)

Further scans from Hobby Japan were uploaded to 2chan last night after I went to bed (initial HJ July ’08 scoop here). I’ll fill in the details as soon as possible, but for now the scans are reproduced below: Update: Most of the details are now up, including information on a wide release of the Shiragami Ikkitousen trading figure set, Asakura Ryouko and Vocaloid Rin/Len Nendoroids, Organic’s Kawazoe Tamaki, and more:

Limited edition Shizuka now in stock

Otherwise only available via mail order from Hobby Japan magazine, Alpha Omega’s Excellent Model CORE Queen’s Blade Shizuka (limited edition) is now in stock at Play-Asia. This is likely one of the few opportunities to obtain the figure without paying obscene markups at auction, so those interested who weren’t able to place preorders earlier have another chance now. She’s likely only available in very limited quantity, so quick action is advised if you don’t want to miss out.

Our review of the regular edition Shizuka can be found here. (no more)

Hobby Japan July 2008 preview

Yamashita Shunya’s Mirei gets busted

A preorder listing went up this afternoon at Kotobukiya’s Rakuten online shop for a polystone bust statue version of Yamashita Shunya‘s Mirei-san character, earlier released in PVC (HD review here). This new figure is being released as part of Kotobukiya’s “Art of Shunya Yamashita” bust lineup, and is similarly priced at 10,290 yen with release expected in September. She’s non-scale and stands 18.5 cm tall, with a sculpt from Arai Kousuke (Never Land). Images below:

SMC Kanu Unchou (armored ver.) preorder open

One of the most anticipated figures to be unveiled at Wonder Festival last February is finally here! Happinet’s online shop Moe Soul updated at midnight last night with a listing for their Happinet/Toy’sworks collaboration brand Sugar Mint Complex Kanu Unchou (armored version) PVC figure from Ikkitousen. She’s scheduled for release in August at 7,329 yen retail, scale unspecified (21 cm tall); castoff status and sculptor information have still not been officially revealed. With her up at Moe Soul preorders at other locations should follow shortly. Figure images below:

Kanokon pulled from free online broadcast

Moon Phase is reporting tonight that following episode seven, TV anime Kanokon will cease free distribution via online broadcasters GyaO and BIGLOBE. The reason given for the move is “ethical regulations”, which appear to have kicked in following the repeated depiction of racy visuals such as bare breasts, implied handjobs, flashes of nipple exposure, and etc. Apparently a particularly memorable scene occurs in episode eight that the free broadcasters weren’t willing to test against government regulation (Edit: the objectionable content was from “episode 7 and beyond” – not ep. 8 specifically), so from now on online viewing options will be restricted to paid only. Note that this currently does not affect any of the show’s terrestrial broadcast networks; we’ll keep an eye out for any further developments on this story or related censorship issues that may arise. Today’s Update

Below you will find a post with several bits of figure news (from a new Petit Nendoroid Haruhi to an official site for Volks’s PVC lineup), and a couple bits of ero news (Crowd’s XCA2 is going to be way longer than expected):

Kotobukiya’s Niθ-designed Aile to see PVC release

Starting with her announcement last November we reported on the production of an original Niθ-designed “Aile” (アイル) garage kit under the auspices of Kotobukiya and the Plamo wo Tsukurou! CUSTOM TV show. It shaped up into a very nice kit, but we learned in February that she’d only be available in unpainted/unassembled resin form at Wonder Festival and that was the end of the story – until now. See below for more:

Eromanga Toshokan vol. 011: B-Chiku

Our Eromanga Toshokan review series returns with a look at the latest offering from veteran mangaka DISTANCE, who according to his Mangaoh product search has been in the business for at least ten years now. As I’ve seen his books come out over the years I’ve typically picked them up, thumbed through them with serious consideration, and ultimately put them back down unpurchased; this is the first to make it into my collection, for reasons I hope will become clear below. Note: this is a hardcore [ERO] book. If you’re under 18 or not interested in hardcore content this post is not for you.

Alpha Omega’s Lala, Yami preorders open

Preorders aren’t quite in evidence yet, but Alpha Omega listed their To Love-Ru Lala Satalin Deviluke and Konjiki no Yami PVC figures on their official site over the noon hour today, so it’s only a matter of time. Both figures are confirmed for release in September at 6,615 yen retail and 1/8 scale (Lala is 24.5 cm tall and Yami is 20 cm tall). Lala’s sculpt is from Yagyuu Satoshi, while Yami’s is from Tanaka Senu; neither figure appears to be significantly castoffable but we’ll wait for definitive confirmation on that either way. Shining Force EXA Riemsianne preorder open

For figure fans with deep pockets, the latest in President Japan (Eye Scream)’s line of Shining-series figures, scooped back in April, appeared for preorder in tonight’s Amiami update: Riemsianne, from Shining Force EXA. She’s scheduled for release in late August at 1/8 scale (44 cm tall, 37 cm wide, 22.3 cm deep – box dimensions? Text listing says 39 cm tall). The retail price is 17,640 yen, and sculptor information is unknown. Pictures of this impressive kit can be found below:

Tamaki pillow, Chizuru bedsheet preorders open

Word is in this evening on two goods items of interest: first, the Kawazoe Tamaki pillowcase from Bamboo Blade that we scooped back on May 3rd is now available for preorder! It’s due out from Brain Police on July 20th at 150 cm x 55 cm in dimensions and features two original illustrations (kendo uniform and school swimsuit) created for the cover. Retail price is 9,240 yen.

Second, a newly announced item from the Kanokon franchise is this Chizuru bed sheet coming from Chara-Ani. It’s made of polyester suede and is sized 140×210 cm, is single-sided featuring an illustration of Chizuru topless (and mostly bottomless) bent over a desk, and is scheduled to retail in July at 8,400 yen retail. Images of both items below:

Kotobukiya’s Blanc Neige, Kurugaya Yuiko preorders open

Following up on the final prototypes recently unveiled for both figures, Kotobukiya this morning provided preorder information to retailers regarding their Shining Wind Blanc Neige and Little Busters! Kurugaya Yuiko PVCs. Both are scheduled for release in Septemeber, with Blanc Neige clocking in at 1/8 scale and 6,090 yen retail. Her sculpt is credited to “Kotobukiya”, and her wand and cloak are removable. Yuiko is also 1/8 scale, with a 5,775 yen price tag and a sculpt from Abira (no significant castoff potential here). With this paper circulated to retailers we can expect preorders to appear online today in the coming hours. Images below:

Animal Cafe Sairenji Haruna preorder open (update 2)

Happinet online shop Moe Soul updated late last night with a preorder listing for a Shueisha Solid Selection Sairenji Haruna (animal cafe ver.) PVC figure from To Love-Ru! She’s scheduled for release in July at 1/8 scale (13 cm tall) and 6,499 yen retail, and like the earlier announced animal cafe Lala she comes with some exchangeable parts (an “original sexy bikini” is mentioned in the listing, as well as her cat ears being attached magnetically). Sculptor information is currently unknown, but with preorder listings expected elsewhere soon we’ll keep an eye out for further details. Update: The figure is now listed at the official To Love-Ru anime site, which provides a few more bits of information:

Kotobukiya’s Blanc Neige final prototype

The official Shining game series figure blog recently launched a parallel separate blog with identical content, and it’s there that the final pre-production prototype of Kotobukiya’s Shining Wind Blanc Neige PVC figure appeared this evening. This is the same version that was on display last week at the Shizuoka Hobby Show, and according to the blog post is the final amended version before she enters mass PVC production. We’ll be watching for full details when preorders open soon. Note that this is a different item from Kotobukiya’s earlier released Shining Tears Blanc Neige – she changes costumes between games. Today’s Updates

Bit of a light news day today, so just some recommendations below if you’d like to support the site – including a run down of many of the figures we’ve reviewed recently that are still available for sale, as well as the pick of today’s batch of DLsite items:

Figure Review: Shuraki vol. 3 – Char (Shall) Rhousemann

Our Shuraki figure review series continues in this third installment featuring French-themed villainess Char Rhousemann. The Shuraki frenzy that consumed figure fans through much of 2007 had cooled somewhat by the time she came out in January of this year, but with Needa recently released and Rize coming at the end of the month it’s high time to get back into the thick of things. Check out our Mishiro Akatsuki and Riu Meifeng reviews first (if you haven’t already, or need a refresher on what the Shuraki series is), and then continue the saga with our look at the contents of Char’s multimedia package:

Mogudan to release new Ayanami doujinshi

Master illustrator and character designer of questionably proportioned heroines Mogudan is at it again! Having not produced a new doujinshi under his own name since Ayanami Dai Ikkai in the summer of 2006 it was thought that he may have vacated the scene entirely, but a homepage update today brings the news that after almost two years he’s back with another installment of his increasingly fantastically depicted Ayanami Rei series: Omake Hon Soushuuhen Sono 1. The book contains a compilation of work previously released as event-limited extras or in other limited edition formats, revised and edited from the original rough material, as well as several pages of all new original work. The total page count is unknown, but the book is scheduled for release on May 27th so we’ll look for more comprehensive information to appear in preorder listings soon.

As with similar doujin items this book will likely only be available internationally via proxy. Thanks to Faust for the tipoff on this! (no more)

Today’s Updates

It seems Moon Phase found some time this evening to make a short update, which yielded some great news you’ll find below along some other random items scavenged from the depths:

Aoshima’s Funny Knights Shinobu-chan details

News from the Shizuoka Hobby Show is still trickling in, and Hobby Stock brings the goods tonight on the newest entry in hobby maker Aoshima‘s “Funny Knights” PVC series. Their Masterpiece of Kuuchuu Yousai Ninja no Shinobu-chan Mashiro no Bouken No. 01 Shinobu-chan (we’ll call her “Shinobu-chan”) is scheduled for release in July at 1/7 scale, 18 cm tall, with a retail price of 7,140 yen. The supposed source of the figure (“Ninja no Shinobu-chan Mashiro no Bouken”) doesn’t actually exist, and Shinobu-chan is an original character invented by Kuuchuu Yousai for figure incarnation here. The only information lacking from her description is the sculptor and castoff potential, but given the July release date we’ll be on the lookout for preorders to appear soon with the complete scoop. Figure image below:

May 16th eroge release roundup

A light showing on the eroge front this weekend after last week’s complete lack of releases. The four games on the table today are all budget titles, with heroines ranging from kimono-clad katana wielding girls to housewives in bondage, to android maids and futanari cheerleaders – a surprisingly broad range for just four titles, and we’ve got the details below:

Ore no Yome #2 is Tsuyokiss’s Yashi Nagomi

Figure maker Pleasant Angels continues their recently launched Ore no Yome PVC series (begun with Koihime Musou‘s Chouun, HD review pending) with the new listing today at Digitamin of Yashi Nagomi from Candy Soft’s genre-defining eroge Tsuyokiss. She’s scheduled for release in July at 6,090 yen and 1/8 scale (height unlisted), castoffable with a shirt made from “soft material”. Sculptor information is currently unknown. Note that the figure pictured below is the Irisawa limited version, not the standard color release:

Alpha Omega does To Love-Ru’s Lala

The official anime website for romantic comedy franchise To Love-Ru updated its goods section today with a listing for a new Lala Satalin Deviluke figure from Megahouse / Alter collaboration brand Alpha Omega. She’s scheduled for release in September at 1/8 scale and an as-yet undisclosed price, with a sculpt from Alter regular Yagyuu Satoshi. The single currently available figure image is below:
