I'm only in Australia, but it's one hell of a comcis scene in Japan, one which is only growing bigger really. I've never seen much in the way of comics in OZ either, especially compared to Japan. I mean, when I was there they had comics stores on every block (at least in the cities), so you could go anywhere to get them. Here, only the newsagent (like the US's newsstands, but indoors) has comics, unless it's a store. Not many of them, even in Sydney! O_o

Anyway, I too would love to see Mogudan get an artbook. Maybe we could ask him? ^_^

That Comiket presentation is quality. I find it very funny that the San Diego Comic Con, which is the biggest comics convention that the US has, pulls only "125,000 attendees, professionals, and exhibitors," despite having bona fide A-list movie stars and way more potential attendees. They go on and on about how big and great it is and yet they are crushed like a baby against Comiket's 550,000 attendees. America fails so badly at comics appreciation.

I'm not aware of any Kanemitsu doujinshi, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's out there. I hadn't come across his work in years, and now twice in a week - this, and word that he's representing AMI (Wikipedia) as a North American voice in the free speech discussion. I've never actually met him despite going to school a few miles from where he was teaching (TAing?) awhile back, if he's in Japan now I'd like to hunt him down.

Edit: seems like he's hanging out in Shinjuku on the first Friday of each month. Maybe I'll try to make it down there for one of those meetings...

That's all I'm aware of as well (unless you include his work on Scrapped Princess, which doesn't really count). It would be awesome if we could eventually see a collection of his color art works in print.

>>Al,

The closest to a Mogudan artbook that I'm aware of was the materials book for Brave Story.

Doesn't Kanemitsu also create doujinshi himself? I could have sworn I've seen some doujin material using the same characters he used in one of his zines from way back.
