Wrapping up the meat of our pictorial coverage of WHF Ariake 18, we take a look at the coming PVC and resin releases of professional makers present at the event. Includes uncensored looks at Yamato’s Animal Girl Bonnie and Daiki Kougyou’s Sugimoto Anna, a gallery of Musashiya’s castoff Ikkitousen cold casts, and Kurushima’s “swimsuit” Kanu resin, among others:

I’ve got a couple of questions I’d really appreciate your help with, Shingo.
1. What state is the Fire Storm! Anna by Toushirou from Daiki in, as pictured above - Resin proto (refined) or PVC proto. The newest picture set for this figure on Moeyo (a few days back) and your pictures in this article all look a lot better than the first set back when she was first announced. That first set was obviously a Resin proto (as still seen on Daiki’s product page), and the new ones are obviously not the same proto as the first pics. So if you know or have an educated guess, since you’ve seen it in person, I’d appreciate the knowledge.
2. The Griffon Shana proto looks fabulous in all the pictures from both WHF18 and February’s Wonder Festival (pic griffon/30.jpg in this article is the best I’ve seen of it, kudos), but the ‘official announcement’ gallery (as seen on Amiami in the below link) looks dramatically worse - especially the eyes, and maybe also the jawline. Obviously they are washed out pictures, but that isn’t going to change the shape of her pupil.

So the real question is,which do you think is more likely indicative of the final product, and have you heard anything about it that leads you to whatever opinion/conclusion. Griffon has a pretty solid track record and the two Kanu renditions I have from them (HJ Excl. & China Dress) are both primo, so I’d like to believe it will look like the proto, but those pictures on Amiami are ‘official’ ones so…
thanks for any thoughts/info ya got, Shingo.

Those are both really good questions, and I’m afraid I’m not very well equipped to answer them definitively. My initial assumption was that Sugimoto Anna was stil a resin prototype, but Amiami’s newly updated gallery looks awfully PVC prototypish to me. Looking at my photos again I’m guessing I shot the same item that’s now pictured at Amiami, but I can’t be positively sure; regardless it’s pretty clear that it’s still a prototype, as there are some amateurish defects in Amiami’s shots that I’d be surprised to see on a final rendition.
Regarding Shana, I’m inclined to believe that the prototype they had on display at the event is closer to what they’ll present as a final product than what’s currently on Amiami’s page, which I believe are still the earliest production shots released.
I didn’t examine either figure too critically at the event so I’m afraid my opinion won’t help you much. :/
Nothing too must-buy in there, but they look pretty! ^^

Well even without a lot to go on, I appreciate your input, thanks man.
The Amiami gallery for Sugimoto Anna does have a pretty PVC look to the top of the hair and the wrap around her waist and torso. I’d really like to believe that the Shana will end up as pictured above when in final form, and if they’d never released that set of pics up on Amiami now, I’d have preordered it already. But we’ve all been burned on the final product vs. proto front and I try my damnedest not to get suckered in when there is reason to be concerned. Yet it looks great in the show shots and Griffon can turn out one hell of a good figure when they want to. They produce probably the best hair in the figure realm ( especially in that it has ultra fine/sharp ends, which some companies still can’t seem to translate from their protos).
Well thanks again, I guess I’ll just have to either risk’em, wait for them to release in JP so that I get to see some PVC final products, or decide to just pass.
Hi Shingo,
I gotta ask this question as it’s bugging me the whole time:
Is the Yamato Bonnie castoff shown at a different enclosed location compared to the rest of their stuff? Because, if they’re all shown in the same general access location, I find it wierd that they can show Bonnie’s full bloom boobies but yet have to tape-mask Nabisu’s ones… 8)
Oh, and hopefully, Griffon’s QB angel is finally good to go - it’s been delayed from it’s Mar 2008 release till now…

Yup. Been burnt before many times by a good proto and yet the final product sucks syndrome…Yujin comes to mind…
>>blacklotus
Thanks for bringing that up, I was meaning to mention it in the post. The Bonnie shots were taken at Tandem Twin’s personal circle booth, while all the others were at the official Yamato booth.
Griffon’s Nanael has been delayed until July, alas.
Thanks Shingo for the clarifications.
I guess delays of figures will be part of the deal till the Beijing Olympics is over. Waste of time and money, if you ask me about my opinion about the Olympics.
If anyone believe the Olympics is only about sports and is non-political, they’re either delusional, dishonest or plain stupid. Heck, even the bidding method to host this stupid event is political. Sigh…so much waste…
