What happens when two of the bishoujo sculpting masters of Japan decide to tackle the same subject with their own unique interpretations? We found out yesterday at WHF Ariake 18, where I was treated to my first look at the completed renditions of two new Gurren Lagann Yoko “space look” resin kits by two veteran hands of the craft. See below for gallery reviews of both:
Yoiko Q
Polygonia
I’m not going to do something as silly as claim that one of these is better than the other; when awesome sculptors tackle awesome material it’s clear that everybody wins. I just hope we’ll be able to see one or both in PVC at some point in the not-so-distant future.
I prefer Polygonia’s more. Gigantits not really my cup of tea

Agreed. Having said that, I have a massive disliking towards the space version of Yoko in general.
Looks like the Polygonia version was based off one of the pics in the Yoko photobook.
I like them both, but Yoiko wins for weight.
Polygonia’s version wins hands down, the huge boobs don’t suit yoko’s original design. I really do hope for a pvc for Polygonia’s in the future.
Gigantits are my cup of tea (Case in point – I just took delivery of this today)
I find the Yoiko sculpt pretty arresting, but I wouldn’t argue with the Polygonia either :) Do want :)

I took the liberty of editing your link to point to the authentic item instead of the pirated version. It’s an original kit that Animal Office is selling via their website (and they mention that they ship internationally), so if you’d like information on how to order a legitimate copy and support the creator please let me know, I’d love to do anything I can to help.
I’m with you on the admiration for the larger size, by the way… I would’ve been tempted by Yoiko Q’s offering if she weren’t very much sold out by the time I was able to take these photos. :(
Ack, note to self: redo Polygonia pics in higher resolution. That’s what I get for rushing things…
No relation to Kramer vs. Kramer I guess, then?
the Polygonia needs to be translated to PVC ASAP.
I’m with gundamjehutykai– Yoko’s space outfit is mostly pretty ugly. But the Polygonia figure has a pizzazz that makes me like it anyway. The Yoiko…eh.
I didn’t want to link directly to Hatou’s site as some Japanese artists can get a little titchy about it. I have in fact purchased his 06 kit directly from him. :)
I bought the e2046 version of the 07 kit because he stated “The production cost becomes high too much for the huge breast and isn’t suitable for the sale.” and he has yet to post it for sale publically. =( Maybe not the best of excuses, but I really wanted the kit…
I’m looking forward to what he is going to do with the second 07 kit…

Ahh, cool. It’s great to hear you’ve gone the extra mile in pursuit of his kits. I can understand why you’d go the alternate route if he’s not going to sell the 07 via mail order. :(
I changed the links to his base site in accordance with Hatou’s wishes. My bad for overlooking that, thanks for the reminder.
Now, if only he’d finish his BE/Milking game. I’ve played the pre-release on the PSP and it’s shaping up to be extremely cool…

Nice, I’ll have to check that out.
By all means, Polygonia. But her tits still are too big for my taste. Really disgusting this giga tits freak that is spreading among japanese folks.
Even once you get past the gigantits on the Yoiko model, the sculpt just looks awkward and unbalanced. The Polygonia is superior by far.
Well it’s kinda hard to compare the two, so I’m going to compare two more similar kits: Polygonia vs vispo.
I have to go out on a limb here and say that I much prefer Polygonia’s version. Plus it’s cheaper. :p
Hands down the Polygonia version. She even beats the Enterbrain version. I’d love to have her in my collection, and hope someone picks her up for PVC.
There was another version of Space Yoko from the last WHF- and I have not found her anywhere. I originally saw her on this site, but I don’t really like either of these- but whatever.
I hope those who are in pursuit for either of these- I hope you get your desires. =)

Are you speaking of this Yoko?

In hindsight I shouldn’t have phrased this post as a competition, it seems like it’s turning into a trashfest of Yoiko Q’s otherwise very worthy kit. ;_; No more “vs.” posts from me in the future.
>>serogane
I think so, yeah.
Ah yes, he confirmed it too in your “WHF Ariake 18: Lucky Star, Gurren Lagann, Vocaloid” post.
>>Shingo
Don’t worry, I’m probably one of the few that likes Yoiko better. Perhaps I’m just a sucker for the huge chest <_<
The first one is great.
Heck, what’s there to choose? I’ll take both Yokos any day. 8)
And thanks to Shingo for the link to Hatou’s kits. I’ve seen his drawings on the web. But I had no idea who it was or that there are resin kits based on these drawings. 8)
Shingo, I don’t think it’s the “vs” aspect that causes the critical comments. People just like to compare similarly themed figures, regardless of whether you present them together. Witness the Volks vs. Goodsmile debate for the Miku figures.
Anyway, I wouldn’t worry about it.
>>>Shingo
Would you by any chance know how much Polygonia’s “Yoko Space Bike” sold for at WHF?
>>serogane
If memory serves it was quite expensive; somewhere in the mid range between 20,0000 and 30,000 yen. I seem to recall the price seeming a bit excessive at the time.
I might be misremembering or thinking of another kit, though.
>>>Shingo
Hey, thanks for the quick reply though.
Yeah, I’m not having much luck searching on google. I saw 2 on YJA go for 28000 and 28500 respectively, but I’m wary of jumping in without a floor price.
Polygonia’s figure is a MILLION times better than Yoiko’s.
NO woman’s breasts stick out like that unless they were falling, or something.
Abnormally large breasts are ugly, anyway.
