Hobby Japan June 2008 preview

Scans from advance copies of this month’s hobby magazines appeared on 2chan’s mokeiura board earlier today, and as usual we bring a summary of the latest bishoujo figure news from their pages translated here for your perusal. Highlights include a new Yamachichi sculpt of Queen’s Gate Alice (adult version), the first full-body color look at Mellona, an awesome Dozle Zabi from the original Gundam (definitely not a bishoujo), the prototype for an Oinarisama Tenko Kuugen from FREEing, release information on Figma Mikuru and Izuki, followups on several of the figures we’ve been tracking over past months, and more!

Kotobukiya presents Yamashita Shunya’s Naomi

Figure maker Kotobukiya updated their online shop today with a listing for a new Art of Yamashita Shunya pre-painted cold cast bust figure, Naomi. She’s scheduled for release in August at 18.5 cm tall (non-scale) and 10,290 yen retail, with a sculpt from Ogasawara Taketo; the figure is nominally Kotobukiya shop limited but similar items have regularly been made available via international distribution outlets in the past, so we can expect her to appear for preorder elsewhere shortly. Tandem Twin’s Doubutsu Nee-chan Brenda scooped

We first saw her at WHF Ariake 17 and then again at Wonder Festival, and thanks to a Hobby Channel update last night we now have the release details for Yamazaki Kouichi‘s (TANDEM TWIN) Doubutsu Nee-chan Inu Brenda, coming from Yamato as an alternate color version of their earlier announced Bonnie. According to the Hobby Channel post Brenda is scheduled for release in September at 8,190 yen retail, 18 cm tall (scale unspecified), and comes with several option parts including base, glasses, eye mask, exchangeable chest part and face part, handcuffs, and ankle cuffs. With her listed at Hobby Channel we can expect preorders to appear shortly. Images below:

Today’s Updates

This post is truncated here for the sake of keeping the front page tidy, but there really is stuff worth seeing below:

Megahouse lists QB Mellona, QG Arisu, Capcomaniax Ibuki, Mika (updated)

April 23rd, 2008 Update: Full listings for the four figures are now online at Megahouse’s official site:

Button Trance: Ar tonelico 2

One area in which HD has long been deficient is the realm of console gaming. One area in which HD’s web coding expert Jetfuel has long been proficient is, by coincidence, said console gaming – particularly of the “moe” variety that incorporates game play elements from roleplaying and tactical sims. Occasionally he gets to thinking about these things, and when he offered to put digital pen to paper and write some of those thoughts down for a new HD column I happily accepted. Here then is the first installment of Button Trance, featuring none other than Gust/Banpresto’s Ar Tonelico 2. We hope you enjoy! -Shingo

Taki Corp. announces Kanu Unchou (swimsuit ver.)

Online shop Web Omocha posted a listing this evening for yet another PVC incarnation of Ikkitousen‘s Kanu Unchou, a castoffable swimsuit version from infamous maker Taki Corporation. This new figure is a measurable departure from earlier entries in their Kanu lineup, firstly due to the price – a relatively modest 7,140 yen retail. Unlike previous versions she only comes with a single costume and is very slightly smaller roughly the same size at 25 cm tall (no scale specified Amiami’s listing pegs her at 1/7 scale); from the images available it seems the face sculpt may be a significant improvement over former attempts as well, though no sculptor information is specified. She’s set for release in June, so we’ll see then if this is the turning of a new leaf for Taki or merely another page in their sordid history of unfortunate figure creations. Images below:

Sei Shoujo’s “Starless” official site online, details scooped

With the official publication today of the June 2008 edition of eroge magazine Tech Gian, sites for games newly featured in the issue are coming online one after another. The biggest scoop by far (in my own twisted reckoning) is the grand opening of the site for Starless, the latest eroge title from Sei Shoujo after a three year absence from the scene (and from this earthly plane, apparently). Further details and game images below:

Max Factory unveils Hoshii Miki PVC pair

Dengeki Hobby’s online news site brings the scoop this evening with release details for Max Factory’s Hoshii Miki PVC figure from The Idolmaster! We first got word of her back at Wonder Festival and now her release has been confirmed, scheduled to retail in two versions in September, each at 7,500 yen. Both the kitai no shinsei (“anticipated new star”) blond version and the kakusei (“awakening”) brown-haired version are 1/8 scale (20 cm tall), with sculpts from Tokunaga Hironori (Replicant profile); the former comes with optional cat paws and ears, while the latter comes with a princess tiara and drill arm replacement. I think I’d have to play the game to understand that one… now that she’s out officially in the media I’m thinking we can expect preorder listings to appear soon. Hobby Stock’s Tsuzuri preorder open

The official blog of online figure and otaku goods retailer Hobby Stock updated this morning with the news that preorders would commence for their store-limited Lycoris Radiata Tsuzuri PVC today (April 21st) at noon, and indeed they have! We now have complete release details for the figure, as well as castoff images (reproduced below): the figure will ship in September at 1/8 scale (18 cm tall), with a sculpt from Hiroman (homepage) and production cooperation from Alter. The retail price is 8,190 yen (tax included), but for preorders placed by midnight on April 27th the price is reduced to 7,665 yen. Those interested in purchasing internationally will have to do so through a proxy service, as the figure is confirmed as available exclusively through Hobby Stock’s online shop. Image gallery below:

News Flash: Sei Shoujo not dead

This is one of those wet-my-fanboy-pants moments so pardon if the words don’t come out so well, but according to the official site of eroge magazine Tech Gian, just updated with the contents of the coming issue (due out on April 21st), eroge artist and game designer Sei Shoujo (homepage, Erogamescape) IS NOT DEAD! Work is finally proceeding on Starless, the game project that lay dormant for well over a year now at the bottom of game maker Skunkworks’ product lineup page. The game was repeatedly delayed with no explanation, and Sei Shoujo’s personal site hasn’t been updated since August of 2006, and I’ve been checking both sites weekly in fear that it’ll be announced that he died of a sudden heart attack, or was abducted by aliens, or exorcised, or smothered by a gang of nymphomaniac schoolgirls.

Interestingly the new game is not being credited to Skunkworks but rather to Empress, the brand where he released his last game Cleavage before going AWOL. Little else can be divined from the single image present on the Tech Gian page, but we do know that he’s helming all aspects of the production (art, direction, and scenario), and that we can expect another “immoral story” in the mold of Bible Black and Discipline. We’ll be watching very closely for further details on this project… Tech Gian announcement image reproduced below:

Eromanga Toshokan vol. 009: Nyuuseihin

The Eromanga Toshokan returns after a long hiatus to bring a look at the most recent volume from veteran eromanga and doujin author Shijima Yukio. Long time fans of the very generously endowed female persuasion have likely come across his work in the past, especially back in the early days when his was one of the sites that could be depended on for the occasional delicious update; while his site has remained largely stagnant in recent years he still produces regular eromanga chapters and the occasional doujinshi, and so it is with pleasure that we delve into this, his most recent offering. Note: this is a hardcore [ERO] book. If you’re under 18 or not interested in hardcore content this post is not for you. If this condition does not apply to you, by all means read on!

To Love-Ru Metamo Lala and Haruna announced

The official site for currently airing Shounen Jump-serialized manga and romantic comedy anime To Love-Ru updated its figure section yesterday with the news that Bandai will be producing a pair of “Metamo Figures” based on the franchise’s two main heroines, Lala Satalin Deviluke and Sairenji Haruna. Both are depicted wearing black bikinis that change color to white when exposed to temperatures in excess of 30 degrees Celsius, and revert to black when lowered below 16 degrees (Bandai’s “Metamo” gimmick at work). Both are scheduled for release in August at 5,040 yen and 1/8 scale. Sculptor information is currently unknown; prototype images from the site can be found below:

Griffon presents Maaryan-senpai (school swimsuit uniform ver.)

Figure maker Griffon updated yesterday evening with a listing for a new PVC incarnation of Maaryan-senpai from Aquaplus bishoujo game franchise To Heart 2. This “sukumizu seifuku” version is scheduled to retail in August at 6,720 yen, 1/7 scale (23 cm tall) with a sculpt from Morikawa Hiroaki and comes with (presumably) detachable skirt and a discarded pair of panties. Preorders are currently open at Griffon’s site and will be elsewhere soon as well, presumably. Kit images below:

Kotobukiya’s Nekomiya Nono, in color

We brought you a first look at this PVC figure back in March, and yesterday evening Kotobukiya updated once again with pictures of their cat-eared, school-swimsuited Nekomiya Nono prototype, now in color. Nono is the heroine of Hi-Quo Soft’s eroge Yotsunoha as well as the recently released all-ages OVA by the same name (Japanese Wikipedia). As reported earlier, the kit is scheduled to retail in August at 1/6 scale (just over 20 cm tall); sculptor and price information are currently unknown. This is one of the cutest kits I’ve seen in awhile, and I’m guessing Kotobukiya will have a real winner on their hands here… We’ll be keeping an eye out for preorder information. Image below:

Organic presents Umisho Amuro, Mirei PVCs

Amiami’s evening update tonight included a pair of new PVCs from figure maker Organic which were a bit of a surprise: Ninagawa Amuro and Mirei Shizuoka from Kenkou Zenra-kei Suieibu Umishou (aka. Umisho). Both are castoffable, 1/8 scale, and scheduled to retail at 7,140 yen, with Amuro coming in June and Mirei coming in July; sculptor and precise height information are currently unknown. Images of the pair are reproduced below:

Toy’sworks preorder bonanza

Preorders opened for seven (7, 七, Ⅶ) new items from figure maker Toy’sworks this evening. We’ve covered them all here in past weeks and months so I won’t go too in depth, but they are, in no particular order:

Figure images can be found at their respective Amiami links. (no more)

Volks to produce Hatsune Miku in PVC

Figure maker Volks updated today with the news that the Hatsune Miku resin kit they presented at Wonder Festival (scoop) is scheduled for reproduction in PVC. According to the kit’s official page preorders will open April 29th for the figure, which is 1/6 scale, with a sculpt from A-BRAND‘s Miruhi Shutoraase (Milchstraße, ミルヒ・シュトラーセ) and a retail price of 7,140 yen. She comes with a second exchangeable arm option, and is scheduled for release in early September.

It’s currently unknown whether she’ll be put up for broad release or limited to order at Volks only, but unbroken precedent indicates that despite their recent forays into the PVC world the brand remains committed to a sickly type of repugnant monopolistic isolationism.

If you’ve been living under a rock for the past eight months or are suffering temporary amnesia and don’t recall who Miku is, click here. (no more)

Toranoana launches new figure brand TC2F, features Taka Tony

The official site of otaku goods retailer and producer Toranoana was updated this evening to announce the creation of a new figure brand dubbed TC2F (“Toranoana & Creators Collaboration Figure”). The first item in the brand’s lineup will be a collaboration with T2 ART WORKS (Taka Tony): the “bikini maid girl” figure we first reported on at the beginning of this month. The official TC2F page reports that the figure is a collaboration between Tony and sculptor Maeda Tomoki of Works Sapporo, is 1/8 scale, does not appear castoffable (other than two pairs of glasses as option parts), and is scheduled to retail in late May at the astoundingly low price of 4,515 yen (with telephone card) or 3,990 yen (figure alone).

The bad news is that the TC2F series is apparently “100% Toranoana Store Limited”, meaning a trip to the proxy service is in order for fans outside Japan. At that price I think many may bite the bullet and pay the extra finder’s fee…

Hatsune Miku news from Goodsmile

The official blog of figure maker Goodsmile updated today with several new photographs and a couple of pieces of Miku-related news. The first is that preorders for their 1/8 scale Hatsune Miku PVC (the one we first scooped at Wonder Festival) will begin next week! We can expect a crushing avalanche of interest in this item, and while Goodsmile is likely prepared for the high demand this time (based on the 50,000+ preorders they received for Nendoroid Miku), we’ll still be watching closely for announcement of the preorder and bring the news to you as fast as humanly possible. Better to be safe than sorry with these things…

Speaking of Goodsmile’s Miku Nendoroid, the other bit of news is that a second batch of the figure is on its way to official Goodsmile partner shops as I’m typing this. These include several stores that ship internationally, such as HLJ and J-List, so if you missed her when she first came out this could be an unexpectedly good chance to pick her up.

Stay tuned for further news on the 1/8 scale Miku preorder frenzy! (no more)

April 18th eroge release roundup

Today we take a look at the new batch of eroge released the week of April 18th, 2008. It’s a typical mid-month group with a mere six new or significantly updated titles available, but it’s a nice range at that – an enhanced reissue of Puzzlebox’s romantic comedy Shutter Chance Love meets the dark new Nise Kyoushi (“false teacher”) from Nomad, with a new Nurse no Obenkyou title from Atelier-D rounding out the higher price end of the spectrum. There’s a nice futanari item from artist Q of Behind Moon on the budget end, along with two other dark school-themed budget titles that round out the week – check it out!

Kotobukiya presents Shining Wind Mao, magazine schedule

Figure maker Kotobukiya posted a product listing to their official online shop over the noon hour today for a PVC figure of Mao from the Tony-designed PS2 RPG Shining Wind. She’s due out in July at 1/8 scale (16.5 cm tall) and 5,775 yen retail, with a castoffable jacket; sculptor information is unconfirmed but my guess is that she’s the work of Nakamura Hirotoshi.

In other Kotobukiya news, the maker has posted a list of upcoming figures that will be featured in hobby magazines through the month of April. The key bishoujo PVC items appear to be:

  • Lala – To Love-Ru
  • Mao – Shining Wind
  • Noumi Kudryavka – Little Busters!
  • Kamikita Komari – Little Busters!
  • Sennin Haruka – Choukou Sennin Haruka (Beat Blades Haruka)
  • Rion – Tales of Destiny
  • Naomi – Art of Yamashita Shunya

A couple of new announcements in the mix there that we’ll be watching for as the Dengeki Hobby / Hobby Japan street date nears in a few more days. Mao pictures below:

Figure Review: Alter’s Franco il Nero (Kuro no Franco)

Kuro no Franco (Franco il Nero) hit store shelves today as the second figure in Alter’s trilogy of heroines from last year’s dynamite Nitro+ eroge Zoku: Satsuriku no Jango (Tre Donne Crudeli). Following on the heels of December’s Donne Anonime would be no small feat, but if successful the acrobatic pose chosen for Franco’s incarnation had the potential to outclass even the Woman with No Name. Does Alter’s production prove up to the task? Franco would like to have a word with you on that…

Taki Corp. announces Ikkitousen nurse trio

Online hobby shop Digitamin put up preorder listings today for three new PVC offerings from figure maker Taki Corporation, all from Ikkitousen and all scheduled for release in late May at 5,040 yen. First is a Kanu Unchou (nurse ver.), who clocks in at 1/9 scale and comes with a set of extra dark-stockinged legs. Second is a Sonsaku Hakufu (nurse ver.), at 1/8 scale and also with an extra set of leg parts (with different color underwear); finally there’s a Ryomou Shimei (nurse ver.), who is 1/8 scale and the front of her blouse is apparently castoffable. Sculptor information for all three figures is currently unavailable. With preorders up at Digitamin they should appear elsewhere shortly; currently available images can be found below: Update: image gallery updated:

Goodsmile presents To Love-Ru Lala, Kiminozo Mitsuki

Figure maker Goodsmile updated their official site over the noon hour today with listings for two new PVC figures that we initially reported on back at Wonder Festival. The first is Lala Satalin Deviluke from To Love-Ru, who will be coming in August at 1/8 scale (22 cm tall) with a sculpt from Tokunaga Hironori and a retail price of 5,500 yen. She comes with her wand and an extra hand part as exchangeable options. The second new Goodsmile announcement is Hayase Mitsuki from Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, coming in a very nice bikini version in September. She’s also set for release at 1/8 scale (17 cm tall) and 5,500 yen, with a sculpt from Chigusa Ryo (homepage). With these listings up at Goodsmile preorders should follow very shortly.
