Figure Review: Goodsmile’s Nendoroid Hatsune Miku

Ever since Goodsmile’s Hatsune Miku Nendoroid was first revealed last November, the explosive popularity of this figure was a foregone conclusion. By simply taking the route of an already established net meme the figure practically advertised itself, and by the time it shipped two days ago had racked up over 50,000 preorders – ten times the number produced for the initial release of Shuraki Vol. 1. Does Miku live up to the hype? Read on to find out!

Pinky Nagato Yuki, Tsuruya-san preorders open

Pinky Street manufacturer Vance Project sent listings to retailers today for two new items in their P:Chara (Pinky Character) lineup: Nagato Yuki and Tsuruya-san from Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu. These are the third and four the Haruhi Pinkys to come from Vance, following Haruhi last February and Mikuru in March. Yuki comes with cardigan + school uniform and book, as well as removable glasses, witch’s hat, wand, and caped exchangeable body. Tsuruya comes in her school uniform as well, with alternate “culture festival” waitress uniform body, legs, and headband. Both are scheduled to retail in late May at 1,680 yen. Images below:

Toranoana announces new mechamusume, Tony figure collaboration

A Toranoana company representative posted a column at Akiba Blog today with the news that work is progressing on two new figures from the brand: an “Imperial Japanese Army Mechanized Flying Fox-Eared Infantry Equipment Red Skirt” mechamusume girl designed by Shimada Fumikane, and a “Toranoana & Creators Collaboration Figure Series 01【T2 ART WORKS】” bikini maid girl designed by Taka Tony. The mechamusume is sculpted by Men of circle Garekiya, and Tony’s bikini maid is from Maeda Toshiki of Works Sapporo. Currently no concrete release information is available for either, but we’ll be keeping the radar out for any forthcoming news on both figures. (no more)

Kotobukiya’s Suzume, Kamikita Komari preorders open

Kotobukiya updated its official site earlier today with listings for two new figures that we initially reported on last month: Suzume from Alice Soft eroge Sengoku Rance, and Kamikita Komari from Key’s Little Busters!. Suzume is scheduled for release in July at 1/8 scale (17 cm tall) and 5,775 yen, with a sculpt from Kajio Munetoshi. Knowing Kotobukiya’s track record it’s likely she’s not meant to be cast off, but we’ll be keeping an eye out for further sample images. Kamikita Komari is also due out in July at 5,775 yen and 1/8 scale (10 cm tall), with a sculpt from Takaku & Takeshi. She comes with an exchangeable twinkly-eyed face part, and heat sensitive color changing panties (according to the product description, no visual evidence yet). Images below:

sorting fact from April Fools fiction

Key’s “Rewrite” not a hoax

It’s the morning after April Fool’s day, and in the process of sorting out fact from yesterday’s fiction the first thing that stands out is that Key‘s announcement of their next title, Rewrite, remains unchanged. Given the combination of Tanaka Romeo (Yume Miru Kusuri, Cross Channel, Kana ~ Imouto [supposed], Kazoku Keikaku [supposed]) and Ryukishi07 (Higurashi no Naku Koro ni) on scenario duty I thought it was an unlikely project, but it seems they will in fact be collaborating to bring the next Key game to life – which means an exciting new era for the game maker who has seen most of the original writing talent that produced Kanon and Air move away in past years. My fondness for Romeo makes me curious, but the character design makes me want to retch… what to do… we’ll probably drop in on this from time to time in the future, but there are much better resources for news on this sort of thing – there’s already a Wikipedia article, for crying out loud. The Key fandom, it is insane. (no more)
