Why put out Wonder Festival industry news in installments when you can do it all at once? This is the question we attempt to answer in this post, bringing scoops from (in alphabetical order): Alter, Amie Gran, Cafe Reo, CM’s, Daiki Kougyou, First Class, Goodsmile / Max Factory, Griffon, Hobby Stock, Konami, Kotobukiya, Lilics, Megahouse, Movic, Orchid Seed, Organic, Piccolo, Revoltech, Solid Theater, Toranoana, Toy’sworks, and Volks. This post will initially be pretty barebones, with nothing but a bunch of (exceedingly crappy) pictures, but it will be continually fleshed out with concrete information over the next day or so, so feel free to check back if you’re so inclined. Update: Post now includes basic information on all of the new kits announced from the makers we covered! Further updates to be posted as the news trickles in.
Notes:
1. Apologies in advance for the truly awful quality of some of these pictures. They were taken at the end of the day with very shaky hands using a six-year old camera (the memory on the main camera being full). Chalk this one up as a lesson learned for next time.
2. If you’re wondering where a given picture or bit of Wonder Festival news is that you saw elsewhere but don’t see here, odds are we’ve already scooped it. Feel free to check out our recent hobby news if you don’t see it in this post.
3. There are currently a lot of duplicate item images that will be trimmed when time allows.
4. This post contains erotic content not suitable for minors or the workplace. Please don’t look at it if you shouldn’t be. ^^;;
5. Booths I overlooked, either by accident or design: Yamato (see Yamato news here), Medicos / Medicom (they left early), Ensky, New Line, Yujin (does anyone care what Yujin puts out anymore?), and Wave (they already scooped themselves).
6. All items listed are scheduled for release as fully assembled, pre-painted PVC figures unless specified otherwise.

Again, Thank you Shingo for the photos. I may not be able to make it in person. But your photos are a good substitute. 8)
awesome shingo! thanks for taking pictures for us!!!
the revoltech line is definitely coming out in full force!
I want those Hatsune Miku kits! Sigh, bet Yahoo auctions will have them for some huge markup scalper prices…
Those Revoltechs look niiiice…
Awesome stuff.
Horo by Kotobukiya, Alter’s Dark Saber and Dark Sakura, Alter Vita, Alter Hayate and Revoltech’s Moyashimon line up..
I hate myself for being poor ;_;.
If that Lily Salvatana doesn’t make my mom think I’m a raging depraved lesbian, nothing will rofl.
Nendoroid Nozomu has got to be the most awesome Nendoroid announcement I’ve heard in eons – male characters finally get more love X3
I sooo want to see that Goodsmile Ryougi Shiki. Oh and that Satsuriku no Jango character is epic, looks pretty big though wonder what scale it is…
If I’m not mistaken, is that a Miku pvc from Goodsmile?
PLEASE can you take a better photo of Horo by Kotobukiya.
Big fan :)
[...] got the message because they have a Hayate AND a Vita figure in the works. The one figure I have coveted for so long is on its way. Both look outstanding in an Alter Fate [...]
Alter’s Hayate and Vita made my day! The Hatsune Miku from MF or GSC looks pretty good as well.
Why are some of the figurines totally gray?
Awesome pictures. I see so many figures that I’d definitely buy. I’m going to be so broke, but I don’t care.
Alter Chouun, Sanzo from Saiyuki, the new Kenshin Uesugis, Miku, Alter’s new Satsuriku no Jango fig, Amie Gran’s Kanu, Another Blood… The list goes on and on.
lily….LILY!!!! omg I am exploding with crazy excitement right now. Not just Lily, but so much other good shit I don’t even know where to start. That Toranoana NnNO looks awesome…! There are several other things to be excited about (including Ryomou maid and HSotD Rei among others), but oh boy those two really stepped out and smacked me a good one.
A Miku figure sculpted by Yoshi-san/trepang? Oh my yes! The nendoroid Rin also looks sweet :3
That Kotobukiya Horo is so sweet. Please say that it’s not just an exclusive and will be mass produced.
Some great photos here, thanks a lot. There’s a lot here that has my interest, and if all goes well on the job front, they’ll probably have my wallet too :D
>>Royce
The majority of these kits (other than the ones from Volks and a few from Griffon and Amie Gran) are scheduled for release in PVC – you’ll be seeing that Miku in full color from Goodsmile later this year.
>>viral
Indeed, you are not mistaken.
>>Mopantsu
There was a guy next to me with a huge camera with a flash on who was moshing into me, or something… I wish I could’ve gotten a better picture, it’s a really nice figure. I’m sure other sites will do it far more justice than I was able to.
>>anonymous
Because they’re works in progress. Those are the initial sculptures before they’ve been painted.
>>madcat
The Horo looks like a general release, as far as I know. I’ll be filling this post with the info ASAP, apologies for the delay.
Thank You Shingo!!!
All the Alter Fgures look Incredible! Amazng! I´m gonna buy what are coming in July!
Kotobukiya have interestng ones, nice!
But Am Kind of disappointed about MegaHouse, please we don´t want re-editions! we want new figures!! reeditions of One Piece figures Repainted of Queens Blade Fgures, the next queens blad figures with nothng special, and capcomaniax… with the less famous female characters from Street Fighter… U_U
Shingo, Is Capcomaniax the new line of megahouse that we commented a month ago?? (cause of the HJ preview)
Bye
I’m already salivating over this one . . . . http://heiseidemocracy.com/wp-content/uploads/wf2008w_industry/cafereo/01.jpg 9800 is a little steep, but I’ll pay it . . .

Wow wow wow wow!!! Alot of great figures here- I’m looking at the Seydtara by Vispo- I can’t wait for her to be released!!
Thanx for the hard work with the pictures and posting Shingo!
This update is greatly appreciated! I’m seeing so many great figures that… that I… oh god I’m crying…
[...] Heisei Democracy – Main Content Page to Wanfesu [...]
oh and also. Orchid Seed, Happoubi Jin, Soniko? Hells yea~! lol Mongo Al Azif hmm…I’m undecided as of yet
Thanks for the coverage!
About the Toranoana’s figure from the Jango series,is it going to be released as a kit,a cold cast or in pvc?
And do you have some more info about the AWESOME Kanu from Bome?
Omg this is just too amazing. Where do I begin! First of all I LOVE GSC for that upcoming Miku PVC can anyone say “FINALLY!” lol. Kotobukiya’s Elwing looks great too, and I simply love Alter’s upcoming Chouun and Miina. You are awesome for posting all this!
Awesome coverage Shingo.
Alter bringing out Hayate and Vita and maybe soon, the rest of the gang looks great. I’ve been hoping one day when will GSC or Alter release a vita figurine for a very long time.
Kotobukiya line up looks nice especially Horo and GSC and Max looks just as great as expected from both of them.
One of the disappointment was Orchid Seed mizuho. It didn’t stand out as i thought it will compared to the prototype photos i saw a couple of days ago. It could be because this is a resin kit but hopefully the PVC doesn’t too bad.
Volks’ lineup of Sengoku Rance and Beat Blades Haruka figures look absolutely wonderful! Too bad I’m unable to purchase them. :( I would love to own Haruka, Narika, Kenshin and Ren. Volks’ Uesugi Kenshin’s looks pretty awesome, probably even better than Kotobukiya’s.
I can’t wait for Alter to release Vita and Haruka! I hope Alter picks up Seinarukana for figure release eventually…OrchidSeed is leaving me hanging with that one.
I count 25 figures that I want. Sigh.
Well, the Elwing by Kotobukiya stands out to me, and says “why don’t you have all the rest from this series?” I will need to get the rest to make this one seem worthy of buying. I’ll still buy Elwing, even if I haven’t bought the rest (only have the Clalaclan figure)..
Miku is a great ‘finally’ indeed, and will sit on my shelf later. Max Factory didn’t seem as well-presented to me, but only because they’ve stocked up on either 1/8 scale only, characters I just don’t know, or they’ve concentrated on Figma lines..
Elena Warenskaya by First Class looks great. Even though I don’t know her, she still would be a good buy! ^^
Thanks for the post, and I can’t wait for more details! ^_^
Hi Shingo, Thanks for the photos & updates on
Wonder Festival 2008 Winter. It’s just too bad that I do not have the chance to visit this. By the way, I had notice a photo from Moeyo.com as shown in the link below.
http://www2.moeyo.com/img/08/02/24/3/355.html
May I know what is this figure? Is it a PVC or Resin figure. It looks like Dragon Destiny Kanu to me.
Thanks for the reply and info Shingo, highly appreciated ^_^
Looks like I’ll be needing another bookshelf at this rate, I’ve almost filled the last one I got and I only got it a couple of months back ^^;;
so much stuff… Good Stuff…
I was stunned by the Elena & Cyrille from First Class, here’s hoping the final products look 90% that good or better. There is a castoff pic of Elena on Moeyo.
http://www2.moeyo.com/img/08/02/24/3/373.html
Chuua Churam & Lily are automatic buys from Alter.
Could Vispo’s Tara be any more expensive?
Dark Sakura is too good to pass up.
Tempted by the Human Mage from Lineage II, but I want to see the color scheme before getting too attached to it.
Max Factory’s Another Blood has some wonderful detail.
I wish the picture of the Griffon Ryomou (Maid ver.) was clearer, I want a better look at her face, but I’m 99% of the way to getting this one.
Koto’s Elwin is a must get for me.
Mega House + Capcom + Toushirou + Melting Neuron = Oh my fucking God YES!
A lot of Orchid Seed’s ‘this art will be a figure someday’ stuff has huge potential, and I’d be happy with a Kanu (Bikini Ver.) PVC announcement for now.
That Toranoana of Donne Anomine looks like a Yoshi. Here’s hoping they up there production game to be it justice in PVC.
sooooo awesome
especially the yuiko kurugaya (little busters) figure from toysworks. anybody knows where i can preorder this?

Jesus?!! Am I reading the Tara price tag right?? $300 plus bucks???
If so then sorry- forget it. She is a beauty…..
Gahhhhh………..
Have to see more detailed pics to make a definet decision…
sob!!
Shiratori Amane – oh, my, my
Yamashita Shunya Elf – yes, please
Lots of pretties from Orchid Seed
Yay, more Yotsubato goodies!
Yup. Tara is US$300+, excluding sales tax and shipping. For Kenshin, I would fork out the dough. But not for lolis. Just not my cup of tea.
Anyway, from the photos posted here and elsewhere, it looks like I better keep some ’spare’ cash for some pretty nice figures (cough…Toranoana Donne Anomine) that have no announcement dates yet. 8)
Tell me Shingo, was there really not a single company planning any Dennou Coil PVC or even releasing commercial resin kits?
Is the license to attain that particularly difficult or impossible to get or something?
>>Toriela – Gunslinger Girls
This interests me though. I wonder if it will be based on manga design or anime design.
Toranoana NnNO is a definitely buy for me. Alter’s ChuChu is must too. And others, definitely getting into consideration. Looks like there’s going to be some expenditure for this year’s figures = =
>>Shingo or anyone else with info
Any info on which company/circle/sculptor makes the Classic Hokusai drawing resin kit below? I like to buy from a legit source. I might even go back to evilbay auctions to source it. I am holding out on getting from bootleg webshops, but the temptation to get this kit is great…

Thanks to anyone with info on this kit.
>>Steve
Yes, I believe it is. There wasn’t anything else new on display at Wonder Festival from them, so unless they just didn’t make it in time I think that has to be it. Was hoping for another castoff line, but this isn’t too bad either. :3
>>Baldulf
Tora’s Donne Anonime will be coming out in PVC. Bome’s Kanu, like his entire large scale resin kit series, will stay in event-limited resin form (with the slight chance of a possible miniaturization / PVCification in a year or so at the earliest).
>>Kent
That’s a very good question. I overlooked it in my run through the industry hall, it’s possible that it’s a new PVC I simply missed. I’ll be on the lookout for further information.
>>the_pseudokings
Argh, I should’ve asked the First Class guys if she was castoffable… I was guessing she was, but was a bit nervous talking to them and kind of ran away. Next time I’ll be more assertive.
>>hutmacher
She’s still available at HLJ, it seems. If you’d like to support HD, Play-Asia is another option.
>>JS
No company announced any Dennou Coil kits at the event, in PVC or resin. I’m not sure about license availability; as an NHK show it’s possible they have a blanket anti-merchandising policy (Juuni Kokki never had any commercially released figures that I know of either, for example).
>>blacklotus
I shot that figure back at WHF 17 and again this time around, but I may have been just stupid enough not to get any further information (when I actually talked to the guy this time and could’ve easily taken some). I’ll look around for you, it’s the sort of thing you could probably buy direct from him as the original IP expired long, long ago. :3
Thanks to everyone who’s left a comment so far – it means a lot to me to know that you’re reading and getting something out of it. As a fan there’s really no greater honor.
>>blacklotus
The kit you’re referring to is the work of T&M Office. I hope that helps!

Well, I hope you’re wrong about that, but it does seem like a real possibility now that I think of it… Which would really suck.
wow, I picked up the doujin with Elena Warenskaya on the cover at Katsu, and now I see they’re making a kit! That’s a nice coincidence! :)
Thanks again Shingo. You’re still the best source for uncensored figures/garage kits for the English speaking world. 8D

it’s a new KANU from Happinet! Considering the company I’d bet it will be PVC too! As I can’t read kana, gana or kanji (someday…) I don’t know any more than that, but I’d call her ‘Warrior Ver.’ if it was up to me, and if she really ends up a PVC, I’ll be gettin’ her for damn sure.
>>the_pseudokings
Saw that on Moeyo earlier today. It is indeed a PVC, due out in summer 2008 at an as-yet unspecified price. Looking like a very nice item indeed. :3
My bad for not making it to the Happinet booth; I simply ran out of time. Another lesson for this summer…
Hi the_pseudokings and Shingo,
Thanks for the reply and updates! It is good to see that this ‘Warrior Ver.’ Kanu is a PVC figure. It’s outfit is really terrific! I will definitely get it! By the way, I’m not familiar with the company, Happinet. Can anyone here tell me if they are good in making good quality PVC figure and whether they have made any castoff PVC figure before? Because based on the photos in Moeyo site, this ‘Warrior Ver.’ Kanu seems to have a cast off ability on the chest part. It will be good if it has cast off ability as well! =)
Happinet has done some collaborations with Koto, and also produced the Sugar Mint Complex line. I have the SMC series Valkyrie from UFO Valkyrie and it is pretty nice. Not on the Goodsmile/Max Factory, Alter, new Yamato level when it comes to paint and finishing, but it is a good reproduction of the sculpt. Nothing says that any of this will be at all relevant to the new Kanu, but it’s what I have for reference.
For other reference, Happinet is a decent sized multi-media company in JP, not just a figure company, in fact I think figures is a fairly small sideline for them.
Hi the_pseudokings,
Thanks for giving me some of your experiences & feedbacks for Happinet. Hopefully the actual production figure for this ‘Warrior Ver.’ Kanu PVC figure will be a very good one from Happinet.
By the way, I had also notice 2 other figures from Shingo’s photos as follows. The first one is Kanu figure whereby the poses & clothing are from one of the manga coverpage. I like the feeling and style for this figure, but does anyone here knows if there will be PVC version coming out for this kanu figure? Which company does this kanu figure belongs to?
http://heiseidemocracy.com/wp-content/uploads/wf2008w_misc/001.jpg
As for this figure, http://heiseidemocracy.com/wp-content/uploads/wf2008w_misc/142.jpg
This figure is really cute, don’t know which
manga or anime she is from? Does anyone knows that?
Does anyone here knows if there will be PVC version coming out for this? Which company does this figure belongs to by the way?
Thank you.
>>Kent
The first one (the Kanu) is one of BOME’s giant (probably) 1/4 event exclusive GKs. This is the best new BOME in a long time, but don’t hold your breathe for a PVC, Kaiyodo has discontinued the Mon-sieur BOME series, and has never released any of his sculpts in full, original GK size as a PVC either.
The second is a Idolmaster character… and that’s all I know. As the property is really big right now, someone will probably come along and tell you more.
>>Kent
Oh yeah, I’m pretty sure the Idolmaster figure is a GK and not attributed to any of the PVC companies.
>>Kent
Regarding Happinet: I wouldn’t trust them when they act completely alone, as some of the worst figure atrocities of the past few years have come from the (now defunct) Happinet spinoff E3 brand. That said, if they keep good company (as they have with Kotobukiya in their Chrono Gate lineup) they seem to be relatively trustworthy.
Regarding your second question, the_pseudokings is correct. The first figure is a 1/4 scale BOME resin kit that will likely never see PVC release, and the second is an Idolmaster resin that will also likely never see PVC release. I’ll try to track down the sculptor of the second kit for you.
>>Shingo
Your link is to trading figures (or were they capsule toys?) if I’m not mistaken, so I don’t know if the comparison is really fair to Happinet. A lot of TFs and Capsule Toys, even from solid companies… kinda… suck. I’ve pretty much stopped collecting the little stuff because the ‘full size’ PVCs just keeps getting better and have for the most part left the little stuff behind.
While it’s true that E3 primarily produced trading figures, they were really, really bad at it. Even at that scale there are gradations of quality, and they were among the worst (though their Shinobuden set wasn’t atrocious).
E3 died a fitting death and it’s all water under the bridge now, but I’d still think twice about buying a figure marketed under the Happinet name alone until the final PVC version is on store shelves.
>>Shingo
So no preorder on this particular Kanu of note for you then (when she becomes available to do so), Shingo?
>>the_pseudokings
I’ll probably still place the preorder, but I’m known for being stupid that way. I think it behooves a prudent buyer to think twice about purchasing from any untested maker before it’s proven itself, and Happinet is no exception; that said, I’m reserving my judgement on the risk of this particular kit until all the details are out. If it’s being produced in cooperation with another more experienced company I’d find it much easier to recommend.
>>Shingo
I’m sure everyone has preordered a PVC that didn’t turn out quite how they hoped. I also believe that being prudent is important, I’m just saying that some (really, really) bad TFs/capsule toys by a now defunct sub-line do not mean that you have to assume that such a good looking proto will turn out to be a terrible final PVC. Especially considering that the SMC line is pretty solid. ‘Kent’ is obviously fairly new to the figure game, and truly interested, so I think those of us with more experience should impart it, but try not to be too heavy handed about our opinions, especially when we don’t have all the details yet. For all we know they could be partnering with GoodSmile to make sure it’s a knockout. I doubt it of course, but until they officially announced…
>>the_pseudokings
I agree with you completely. ^^
The prototype looks exquisite, and I hope whatever staff and production facility ultimately produces the figure is up to the task of replicating it faithfully. I was probably too heavy-handed in my condemnation of Happinet based purely on the work of E3 from a few years ago, and I too eagerly await further details on this figure, so we can more accurately get a picture of what to expect.
Sorry to get carried away in a stupid argument. I am an eternal optimist when it comes to these things, and even if indicators look doubtful for a newcomer to the figure industry I’ll probably pick up whatever it is they’re making if I like the look of the original prototype. That’s definitely the case here.
>>Shingo
That leads me to the 2 excellent new protos from First Class, Cyrille and Elena. Do you know anything about them/what to expect? I love the 2 sculpts/protos, but I myself am quite concerned about a brand new company, as I expect you are. Looking at the protos, they don’t seem too glossy or overly done with paint gradients to see ‘too good to be true’ for PVC, but there is some detail work (especially in the Cyrille’s paint scheme) that they really need to nail to pull these off. Thoughts?
>>the_pseudokings
I don’t know much about First Class beyond what I’ve seen of their Yuria 100-shiki (which I did end up buying). There are some issues there that have me worried (the casting job is “blurry” – soft around edges that should be crisp, the detail work isn’t great and the selections of paint and finish could have been better), but whether those problems will persist through their coming lineup is hard to say.
After meeting the staff at the event I came away favorably impressed that they were working really hard to do well by their product, and I’ll definitely be ordering the Elena when she’s announced (not sure about the other two yet). I hope they can pull of a level of quality similar to what was on display in the prototypes, but whether they will or not is still an open question, I think.
>>Shingo
Well I guess the fact that they want to put out a good product is the right place to start from. I will say I don’t remember ever seeing a picture of the Yuria that looked really sharp/detailed so maybe that is why she has the problems you noted. Obviously, there might have been a lot of drop off from the proto and I just never saw the proto pictured anywhere. I suppose I will take the same approach to the Elena and the Cyrille that I have toward the Happinet Kanu – cautious optimism, with a high likelihood of rolling the dice and hoping for the best.
The busty catgirl with the airbrush- is she going to be pvc, or is she strict resin??
Thanx!
>>Work_Ethic
We’ve heard no word yet about a PVC version of the Airu figure from Niθ and Kotobukiya; thus far she’s resin only. I’m still holding out hopes for a PVC though – it took 3-4 years for their Yomiko kit, but even she succumbed in the end, so there’s definitely a chance.
LOL- Okay, for some reason I thought she was going to be pvc…anyway, I will most likely keep an eye out for her on Yahoo. I really like her face and proportions……..
Thanx!!
