A final figure item to round out the work week comes in the delightful news from Toy’sworks that they’re producing a pair of figures sure to catch the attention of a lot of fans who didn’t expect them (myself included): first up is a PVC rendition of Clare, heroine of the Claymore manga and anime. She’s scheduled for release in June at 5,800 yen, 1/8 scale (13 cm tall) and comes with a removable cloak and exchangeable face part. Next up is Miyamoto Rei, heroine of Highschool of the Dead, the pulp zombie horror manga by Satou Shouji / INAZUMA of doujin circle Digital Accel Works. She goes on sale in May, at 1/8 scale (12 cm tall) with “sexy body parts” and her trademark pole included; the elevated price of 7,800 yen reflects both the extra torso and the “castoff tax” we’ve seen emerge over the past year or so – a tax I’ll gladly pay, in this case. Honestly speaking neither of these looks spectacular to me, but I think I’ll cave in on the Miyamoto Rei regardless, out of support for Satou Shouji if nothing else. That man can draw.
Woah, the Rei figure was unexpected. Hopefully the rest of the girls get a similar treatment.
Hoo boy, time to catch up on High School of the Dead (as a friend dubs it, “stuff that’s good for indulgent reading while waiting for new chapters of better manga to be released”). Clare’s face looks … strange, for lack of a better word.

interesting rendition of clare, but the previous PVC figure is much more elegant, so i’ll stick with what I have.
the Highschool of the dead figure is a surprise. I didn’t think it had hit that level of popularity yet, given that it’s still a very new manga.
And that clare figure looks wrong…

That Clare doesn’t even capture the essence of the anime or manga. The other figure is looking nice and I’m with Shingo on this one.

Its a new look for Clare, unfortunately, the execution is poor, Toys Works can do better…On the other hand the Miyamoto Rei figure looks promising, I’ll be keeping an eye for it on future scoops… ^_^
i love claymore but clare is like my least favorite of the bunch. id love to see a quality galatea, or irene, or flora, or ophelia, or even sophia. ton of girls more interesting looking than clare in there.

I with neither. I hate the sizes of these. 12 or 13cm is way too small for the prices here, so I’ll be spending my money on worthwhile figures..
i agree with deibi. For that price, i will rather buy another megahouse figure on the right. Somehow megahouse has very good accurate sculptors. And the prices of its products are better than other companies.
Thanks, Blacklotus. Yeah, the current trend of realy tiny, expensive products is wearing thin with me, but if they continue, I’ll at least be saving my money for better things! ^^
Rei looks actually very good. Love the job they did on her hair. I enjoy HSoTD immensely (gotta love zombie stories with kyonyuu fanservice), but the unabashed right wing glorification of the past few chapters put me on a guarded precipice.
