As reported earlier, the March ’08 edition of eroge magazine Dengeki Hime went on sale today (January 30th) and includes the exclusive scoop on the latest Sano Toshihide designed [ERO] game from maker G.J?, Majodou (魔女道; lit. “Witch’s Way”). In it the protagonist attends a prep school where one day he discovers that four of his classmates are witches, and is tasked with keeping their identities secret as they vie for the Witch’s World Cup (one is from Japan, one is from the USA, one is from Holland, and one is from Germany). Seems to be riffing on some Harry Potter themes, at first glance… I’ll update this post as soon as I’m home with access to a scanner, and G.J? has promised a site update this evening as well so plenty of visuals should soon be available. Watch this space! Update: Scans of the Dengeki Hime article below:
The Japanese witch is Amanogawa Subaru, the “American” (Japanese returnee) is Hitotsukane Yuuko Oliver, the Dutch girl (born in the Netherlands of Japanese extraction) is Kusakabe Rurune, and the German with the 100-cm bust is Marie Marigold.
I have to say Sano has outdone himself here. I’m really digging these designs, it seems like he’s channeling a bit of Ugetsu Hakua or Niθ while keeping his own distinctive touch. This definitely looks like the comedy I’ve been waiting for from G.J? for the past couple of years – their comedies are invariably better than their darker titles in my opinion, and this looks to be continuing more in the vein of Akibakei Kanojo and Shichinin no Online Gamers than otherwise.
We’ll be keeping very close tabs on the development of this game, starting with a watch for the expected update to the official G.J? site tonight!
January 30th 9:00 PM Update: the game’s official site is now online. :3
Well, at least it isn’t another “wizardry school”, or something like that. Besides, Toshihide’s art is different from the usual artists who have rendered girls for other games of the same theme. Less moe, and more mature, perhaps.
Doki Doki Majo Shinpan: Reverse Side?

Yeah, the only thing that really feels Harry Potterish is the vaguely Quiddich overtones – the Sano onee-san types are strong with this one, it doesn’t look or feel like any other witch-themed game that’s come out in the past few years, though I’m sure it’ll share memes with some of them.

Now there’s an idea. I’d love to see some of the Dokimajo characters drawn by Sano (or see a tactile ecchi system like the one they’re developing for the new INO game, for that matter) but I think this’ll be pretty much a straight ADV.
Put me in with Terry. Sano-designed witches being rubbed within an inch of their lives is high on the list of things I would buy without a moment’s thought.
Once I have more than ten dollars in the bank, I mean…

In Sano Toshihide witch game, witches touch you!
I love it…
I LOVE IT! Sano banzai!
I’m not generally a fan of Japanese Ero games. Mainly because my japanese is rubbish; but the character art looks very good. I’m intrigued to say the least and will definitely keep track of this.
(also morally opposed to censoring)
I love how Sano’s flat girls are more stacked than the entire female populations of most games.
I can’t wait. :3
I was sold as soon as I saw the name Sano Toshihide. . . .
I like how the girls are all “multicultural”. And what is it with German/Eastern European charas with silver hair in animu? Is it a “master race” thing?

I guess it’s a stereotype. Just like all American girls (for Japan) are supposedly blonde with blue eyes.
Also white/grey hair always seem to go with red eyes. (Albino I suppose)
Guess it’s a cool design decision. (White/grey hair + red eyes connotates unearthly ageless beauty + red hot power.) 8) For examples, see
Fate/Stay Night’s Berserker’s master Ilya.
p.s. for the game above, the American has blue hair instead since the Dutch is already a blonde.

Any chance of any Sano’s games ever to be text-translated into English and released uncensored by Jlist/JastUSA? I would gladly buy all Sano’s titles.
As it is, I cannot justify buying a censored Japanese version anymore, with my stand against silly Japanese censorship laws.
I did in the past (Games from Elf, Lilith, etc), but I find myself thinking I’m shortchanged as some of the censorship are quite badly done (Mosaics covering almost the whole picture e.g. in gangbang scenes)
I still doubt I’ll do more than get the CG rip and skip the game. Unless the trend of good artists illustrating for shitty plots is broken.

Chances of a JAST license are slim, though not impossible. It certainly wouldn’t happen within the next year or so, if at all… our lineup is pretty full these days. I’d love to work on a Sano game if the opportunity arose, though.

I can understand where you’re coming from, G.J? has never produced anything really spectacular (though Akibakei Kanojo and Shichinin both had enough decent material to make them playable, for me at least). I’m not counting on Majodou to be any great shakes in the writing department, but short of making a pilgrimage to Hokkaido and offering to wash his dishes and take out the trash I don’t know what more I can do to support Sano’s work.
As always, beautiful art. The theme sounds kind of neat, too.
Damn it, where’s my time to play all of these good games? >.<

Thanks for the update. Anyway, I’m looking forward to a couple of JastUSA Ero RPGs coming soon. Since the US$ is weakening lately, I gather it’s a good time to buy MADE IN USA stuff instead of Japanese stuff. 8)
Sano Toshihide FTW!!
Great designs, über drawing quality and supposedly funny history. Drooling :D~~
We only need an original plot (maybe this will be the lowest point of the game) and maybe an interesting gameplay.
-_-;;
