As L.C predicted in a reply to the recent March ‘08 Hobby Japan post, the two latest entries in Kotobukiya’s Art of Yamashita Shunya series are entitled Karin (preorder page) and Noel (preorder page). These two busts join Niniane in the polystone Shunya lineup from Kotobukiya, and are scheduled to retail in May at 10,290 yen each (non-scale, 17.5 cm tall). Both are a limited run of 500 units, and are limited to sale via the Kotobukiya online shop only (though I have a hunch they’ll appear via other retailers internationally as well, if Niniane is any indication). I’m highly tempted by both of these, but would be much more so if they were PVC and about half the price… as is I’m afraid I’ll have to give them a miss. Damn you Kotobukiya!
Both very nice sculpts, but I’m not digging the cop-out on the legs. Makes them sort of look like they’re coming out of comically-small cakes.
while somewhat tempting, the faces don’t look that “Shunya” and I’m not a big fan of the 3/4 bust format. I got the first one in this Shunya sub-series as it was a very reasonable price in the US and a nice design, but I expect with Koto’s recent price hike in the US that these 2 along with the recent one will just not quite seem worth it to me, and likely to others, as Shingo also lamented. Also, the first one did not excel in the paint category beyond the average PVC from a good company, nor in the sculpt replication/fine details realm, so why the series is polystone is beyond me.
wow…they look absolutely amazing but as cheez said, wish they made it a full figure instead…
Well, I am Yamashita’s whore, so if I can get them I will be doing so.
Polystone is brittle right… those are 2 busts you can drop….
By the way, I just received a Shion the other day, which is also a bust like Niniane, and I have to say that it is pretty nice and has some weight to it. I just put in an order for Niniane through my comic shop (it is this month’s Previews).
UPDATE: I just checked and they are on Play-Asia for preorder. Cha-Ching! They list as May-2008 releases.
Great,another one. Pretty soon there won’t be anywhere left for ME to stay in my room,with all those damn figurines taking up the space.
And there goes part of the money I’ve been saving up to buy a new laptop.A Shuunya Yamashita figurine has the power to suspend rational thinking.
And I still haven’t received the OTHER one I pre-ordered at play-asia.

I would absolutely love to see Karin in PVC. While I love Shunya Yamashita’s illustrations, the only figures that appealed to me enough to get were Mirei-san and Non-Non. Still debating about Shouko-san.
Noel looks like a mash-up of Storm and Wolverine.

I actually got the info from my regular figure distributor…Am still thinking whether I would get either one, due to the price tag of the busts and the fact that my figure pre-orders have really piled-up as of late… ^_^;;

Wow I’m really not a huge fan of Yamashita or the 3/4 bust action, but these are very very tempting! I love the design on both of them. It almost hurts to say I have to pass due to the price though. Woe is me!
