I just made it back from World Hobby Festival Ariake 17! It’s going to take a little while to get all of the pictures sorted and processed and to suitably gather thoughts for a cogent event report, but for now here’s a sample of what went down at the Big Sight today:

Full event report coming soon!
omd (oh my damn)
everything looks so good and this is just a preview?!
the unpainted kit after the Hatune Miku one, the Kaoru figure, and the one with the upside down red headed girl in it (the purple one is Al Azif or something?) are my faves so far
and Chun Li sure can get some great lift
Let me guess, Taki is responsible for that abominable Kanu
Gaaaaah! I can’t believe I missed this, I was in town and everything… :(
Ringo=Awesome
Roberta=Kicks Ass
Yoko=Delicious
Pyoko=Down?
The Hatsune Miku one looks really good. I hope it gets a mass release.
Ooh, I love the Mercedes figure. It’s nice to see Odin Sphere stuff.
nice a mercedes. was wondering about the lack of odin sphere collectibles. rather puzzled as to why they chose to make a mercedes over velvet or gwendolyn though :p
All the figure looks delicious, but that Ringo figure especially captured my attention.
Isn’t that Chun Li an old figure? I’ve been seeing that pose for years. I haven’t gotten her becaue of the size of her head being really really small- this looks oaky in proportion but her face looks off……sigh.
Lottsa great great pics! Thanx Shingo!
>> work_ethic
Yeah. That Chun Li is a past resin kit. I’ve seen it listed in some bootleg sites for sale. Hmm…maybe the official pvc version is coming soon. Hence the prototype display. 8)
not enough kaede
Yeah….a pvc of her would rock…hopefully the face might look better by some other angles…
Maybe it’s just me, but somehow a “shunya-ish” looking Kanu Uncho doesn’t seem to cut it.I like anything by Yamashita Shunya and that goes the same for Kanu Uncho, but this mix kinda seems off.
>>suneo
The unpainted kit is Ringo from Air Gear, coming in PVC from Yamato. The purple-haired girl is Al Ajif, and she’s paired with Another Blood (both from Demonbane).
>>Y
Taki wasn’t at the event; that’s a garage kit from (I’ll have to check the dealer name when I get home). I rather like it, aside from the stringy/snakelike hair.
>>aiHD
I try to keep these things listed on the event calendar in the sidebar and post about them beforehand too… ^^;; too bad you couldn’t make it, I’ll try to make event announcements more explicit in the future.
>>MK
Pyoko is apparently down, but the network is still up; I’d recommend joining clover.arity.net if you’d like to get back in on the chat.
>>Draneor
Miku had a huge presence at the event, that was just one of the many nice kits that were there (as I believe other sites have already started posting about). We’ll have the full scoop in the event report later today.
>>Kat_Ears_Kahrain, hageshiku
Odin Sphere seems to be one of the popular seasonal flavors in doujinshi and figures this fall/winter, I’m guessing we’ll see a good bit more of them over the next few months. :3
>>Anonymous
Watch for her in PVC from Yamato! :3
>>Work_Ethic, blacklotus
Thanks for pointing that out, I wasn’t aware she was an old kit. Considering that she was up for display only (not for sale) it seems likely she might be headed for PVCification…
>>wildarmsheero
Patience good sir! You shall have your Kaede (there was only one there, but you’ll have her. Well, a picture of her).
>>20Lizardmen
That Kanu is not designed by Yamashita Shunya, it’s an original sculpt designed by the sculptor from the circle whose name I’m forgetting but took a picture of so that I’d remember (argh). I’ll get back on this as soon as I can get home to check.
They do look delicious, indeed! I especially liked the Al and Another Blood, that’s a nice flowing, pretty figure set. ^^
Can’t wait for your report! ^__^
[…] Heisei Democracy: – WHF 17 Post […]
That “Anonymous” post was me. Just forgot to put the name.
>>Shingo
Yeah, I’m defitnetly going to preorder that one as soon as it’s available. Pretty funny since there really isn’t a lot of must have figures that I want, but that one is a must. By any chance do you know what scale that pvc is?
Also, I’m guessing that Lucky Star figure is only a kit? Man, there really needs to be a decent pvc for Lucky Star … ==;
Is that Chun Li Pvc? Cuz the resin has been out for years.
Who is the busty knockout fourth down from the top? It looks like the sign behind her reads “Violet.” Any ideas who she is, who makes this piece, etc. etc.? Thanks!
>>viral
I’ll have to check when I get home, I have a photo with the full placard describing the figure. Eyeballing I’d say she’s around 1/7.
There haven’t been any Lucky Star PVCs announced beyond the Nendoroids and the Petit Nendoroids; all the Lucky Star at WHF was resin.
>>Banner
It was the first time I’d seen that Chun Li resin kit, but it wasn’t for sale; it may mean a PVC version is coming soon but I’m not sure.
>>Claude
The kit you’re referring to is a PVC doujin figure produced by Keumaya. More information can be found here, here, and here.
Odin Sphere figurines? Hell yes. I shall eagerly await Velvet.
That Ringo also looks mighty nice, but I’ve still yet to get the rail-grinding Simca.
Chun-Li is by Toushirou, as is shown in his gallery, being sold/produced (future PVC release) by Daiki kougyou? how tall is she… scale..1/4, 1/5 or 1/6?
ok.. found out she is 51cm tall at 1/5 scale..Her outstretched thunder thighs probably adds 15cm to the height above her head…
>>oopai power
It’s the same pose, but I think it’s clearly a different kit from the Toushirou sculpt. The one posted in his site gallery is a Daiki resin kit, not a PVC, and it was on sale a few years ago, not a coming release. You can find Daiki’s product page for the kit here.
So, is someone ripping off Toushirou or is this a variant PVC-ification of his older kit?
I prefer this newer version, in any case; the older one looked too muscular to me. It was masterfully sculpted, though.
Shingo-san,
Ooops,my bad.Yeah,it ain’t by Yamashita Shunya,so I used the word “shunya-ish” but on a second glance, It ain’t even close to the stuff yamashita shunya does. Must have been all that booze from those holiday parties that got my senses all mixed up.
Anyway, even if it’s a Kanu Uncho figure,I’ll pass on this one.Somehow, it doesn’t look like a “kanu” figure to me.Some may like it,but some may not.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New year.
Thanks, oopai power-san and Shingo-san. No wonder the Chun Li kit looks familiar. Yup. It is a copy of the Cobra-Kai kit.
Anyway, I do hope for a legit PVC version of either one. 8)
>>Anachronism, blacklotus
My guess is neither; I’d say rather that both figures are based on the same original illustration (I don’t have it handy, but it was posted to 2chan recently and seems to predate both kits). Japanese sculptors typically don’t rip each other off directly (to my knowledge), though they have been known to produce very similar kits based on the same original illustration (Yamashita Shunya’s Rickenbacker x Girl, for one, has seen multiple incarnations).
>>20Lizardmen
I definitely see where you’re coming from; the sculptor’s style isn’t much at all like her original design. I occasionally like that more “realistic” look though as a change of pace…
From Moeyo… The Chun Li figure is scuplted by Hamazaki Takeshi-san,… He has done the 1/6 Mai as review on HD before in Sep. He has sculpted another 1/6 Chun-Li before together with 2 other fighting-girls produced in PVC by MaxFactory
I owned 2 copies of the high kick Chun-li. It’s a 1/4 scale and from toe to toe I’d say around a foot and a half to two feet in height. I’d be nice to see it done.
That Kamina pose is great. That is a must get for me.
