Figure News: Hobby Complex 02 Tokyo reports

The second iteration of garage kit and toy convention Hobby Complex occurred today, this one the first to be held in Tokyo (occupying one of the west halls of the Tokyo Big Sight). Preliminary event reports are up at GA Graphic (Lucky Star feature), Akiba Hobby, and Moeyo! Akibajin Blog. As primarily a garage kit event there wasn’t much in the way of PVC on display, though a few makers did show up (Goodsmile offering an event-limited Gargantuan Neco Arc CHAOS vinyl figure); the reports are worth checking out regardless for a look at what a bunch of the bigger kit circles are up to these days, as well as a fine vessel that both Moeyo and Akiba Hobby seem to feel sums up the event nicely. Figure Review: Toy’sworks’ Suzumiya Haruhi (gakuran ver.) PVC from Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu

Whenever I see the word “Vispo” a primordial reflex action is triggered somewhere in my brain stem that makes me hit the “BUY” button if one is within reach, and this Haruhi was no exception. Back when she was announced in May there was much rejoicing (along with a schooling in the meaning of the term “gakuran”), but when she was finally trundled out to an expectant audience earlier this month the excitement was somewhat abated. Would you trust Toy’sworks with your Vispo? After seeing this kit I’m not so sure…

Figure News: more Hatsune Miku Nendoroid pictures

More Miku preorder listings have been going up unofficially over the past twenty four hours, including one at Amazon, and we now have incontrovertible proof of her leekness. She was also present in the plastic today at the Dengeki 15th Anniversary Festival, and Akiba Hobby was there to shoot an exhaustive review (no leek in evidence, alas). She’s also pictured in Dengeki’s official coverage, as well as below:

Figure News: Dengeki 15th Anniversary figure fallout

Publishing company Mediaworks (parent of the Dengeki magazine lines) is holding a festival to mark the brand’s 15th anniversary this weekend at Makuhari Messe in Tokyo, and several figure makers were there to hawk their wares and unveil a few new items in the process. Word is still coming in from the event hall floor, but what we know at present is shown below:

[ERO] Figure News: Aoshima’s Funny Knights Masterpiece of Yamashita Shunya No. 2 Petra PVC up for preorder

Amiami’s noon updated today featured the surprise preorder listing of Aoshima‘s Funny Knights Masterpiece of Yamashita Shunya No. 2 Petra PVC figure. As we reported last month she is indeed castoffable, and is scheduled to retail in mid-February of ’08 at 1/7 scale (30 cm tall – staff included) and 7,140 yen. As was the case with Rudy and Cream Coru-nee before her Petra is the work of sculptor Modeler-T, who has a better shot of Petra on his site than the one currently up at Amiami (see below). I’m wavering on this one… probably going to hold off on a preorder until Amiami has their full gallery up.

Nendoroid Hatsune Miku leek version unveiled

Figure News: Hatsune Miku Nendoroid, Shuraki Needa preorder dates confirmed

Just a quick note before running off to Comic Creation: according to online shop Digitamin preorders for the Hatsune Miku Nendoroid (scooped yesterday) are scheduled to officially open at midnight on November 26th, with preorder opening for Shuraki series #4 Needa on the 27th. The Miku preorder is also hinted at in an official email to stores from Goodsmile, which says there will be a special announcement occurring on Nico Video at 24:00 o’clock on the 25th (midnight of the 26th)… A feeding frenzy is expected to surround both kits, so we’ll be watching for further preorder information as it is forthcoming. Figure News: January ’08 Hobby Japan preview

Hot on the heels of this morning’s Hatsune Miku Nendoroid leak comes further scoopage from the as-yet unpublished pages of the January ’08 issue of Hobby Japan magazine! On the Queen’s Blade front we get our first look at Megahouse’s Shizuka in color (scooped back at Wanfesu), along with the news that she’s due out next spring at 5,775 yen and is castoffable. We get looks beneath the clothing of both Airi and Nix as well, with Nix revealed as a lower castoff. We have word that an Izuruha figure will accompany a box set release of the four volumes of Ru Li Lu Ra manga (details in the next HJ issue). Word from Goodsmile as well that they’re producing a Kuonji Shinra figure from Kimigashu (no details yet), and a look at the MMS Yoko action figure coming from Konami in December. Last but not least we have Akashiya Moka from Rosario to Vampire coming from Shueisha on May 23rd at 5,000 yen, and what for me is the heart-stopping revelation of the issue: the Orchid Seed Ishiyama Satoshi-sculpted Witchblade Shiori kit scooped at the Miyazawa Model Exhibition is coming out in resin at Hobby Complex 02 this Sunday, November 25th. Holding my breath until the PVC announcement… visual evidence below:

figure release schedule updated

Figure News: Nendoroid Hatsune Miku, Lucky Star Petit series unveiled – UPDATE – Miku preorder?!

Scans have begun leaking on 2chan’s Mokeiura board from this month’s issue of Hobby Japan magazine, and the first to surface is the revelation that explosively popular virtual idol Hatsune Miku is to see a Nendoroid rendition come next March. She’s listed with a price point of 3,000 yen and typical Nendoroid accessories, clocking in at 10 cm tall. Revealed simultaneously is the news that a Nendoroid Petit series featuring the main female cast of Lucky Star (Konata, Kagami, Tsukasa, Miyuki, and Akira) is to be released! The figures will go on sale in March at 500 yen each and are approx. 6.5 cm tall. As far as we know neither are scheduled to be limited in the way that the full size Lucky Star Nendoroid release was. HJ magazine scan below. 16:30 Update: online shop Rakuten Sproutoy briefly had Miku up for preorder a few minutes ago, complete with color image (see below). Word is that she does in fact come with a leek…. She sold out in seconds, and is likely to disappear equally quickly wherever she appears. We’ll be keeping an eye out for any further info.

Site News: HD does Comic Creation 19 – twice!

Comic Creation 19 is tomorrow, and HD will be there – in not one but two circles. I’ll be hanging out at space A02a, circle スタジオHD (with nothing to sell, still working away at the book for Comiket). Shipon will be there as well, and he’s really gone the whole nine yards: he’s the one-man circle Taiyaki Instrumentality Project, and will be holding court to peddle his wares at space C09b. He’ll have a couple of CDs of music that he’s produced on sale, samples of which are available at his circle site – check ’em out! If you’re in the area tomorrow (it’s at the Plaza PiO in Oota-ku, Tokyo) and have some free time, why not stop by and say hi? A few additional details below:

Figure News: Nagato Yuki Figma unsealed, Yotsubato! Revoltech Danboo (Amazon ver.) up for preorder

On the action figure side of things this morning we have word of the official preorder opening for the first ever general release Figma action figure (HD coverage here and here), Nagato Yuki from Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu. She’s scheduled to hit store shelves on February 14th, 2008, at 2,500 yen retail and 13.5 cm tall, and if you’d like to support HD you can preorder her right now at Play Asia. In other news, Amazon opened preorders today for its limited edition Revoltech Danboo cardboard robot action figure from Yotsubato!. It’s just like the regular version, only with the Amazon logo plastered all over it… the regular edition goes for 2,205 yen with release on December 1st, and is available at Play Asia if you’d rather not have corporateness with your cute yet menacing robot overlords. Figure News: Alter’s Kanu Unchou, Reinforce Zwei up for preorder

We predicted in yesterday’s Miyazawa Model Exhibition news roundup that Kanu and Reinforce would be up for preorder soon, and WHAM – here they are! Moe Soul is the first up to the plate with the listings for both. Alter’s Kanu Unchou PVC figure from Ikkitousen is set for release in April 2008 at 7,140 yen and 1/8 scale (21.5 cm tall), with an age rating of 15+… this means castoff, right? Right? Reinforce Zwei from Nanoha is also up for an April release, non-scale (19 cm tall) and 6,090 yen retail. She’s also listed with a 15+ age rating, though I have no idea why… pictures below (Updated!):

Discipline: The Game (18+)

[ERO] Figure Review: Orchid Seed’s Ryofu Housen (gothic lolita ver.) PVC from Ikkitousen

If it seems like we just reviewed an Orchid Seed Ikkitousen figure last month, that’s because we did. Ishiyama Satoshi has been churning them out fast and furious, giving fans of his signature style and hot Orchid castoff kits something to celebrate; how does his gothic lolita Ryofu stack up against the others, and against her competitors? Read on to find out!

Anime News: AT-X commemorates 10th anniversary with the production of TV anime Mnemosyne

The official site for Mnemosyne was unveiled a few weeks ago, but today Moon Phase Diary brings news of an Anime Fan News scoop that fleshes out what we know about the title (and provides a piece of rather provocative character art to ruminate on). The show is being produced by GENCO and XEBEC in commemoration of satellite cable channel AT-X’s 10th anniversary, and is scheduled to air in six 45 minute episodes beginning in February of 2008. Character concepts are from eroge designer Chuuou Higashiguchi (known for his work on several Nitro+ games and Propeller’s Bullet Butlers, most recently), scriptwriting is by Oonogi Hiroshi, with direction from Ueda Shigeru. The show is described by Moon Phase as “erotic and violence SF action”, and speculated to carry an “R” (15+?) rating as a result. This is one we’ll be keeping an eye on as production advances… (no more)

[ERO] Figure News: Taki Corporation’s Ryomou Shimei PVC from Ikkitousen up for preorder

Amiami and Hobby Stock both represent today with the news that Taki Corporation‘s Ryomou Shimei PVC figure (first scooped here) is now available for preorder! As mentioned in our earlier coverage her maid outfit can be replaced by a bunny girl suit, and while there’s no visual evidence, based on the way her parts come together we can be sure that like Kanu before her she’s a full castoff job. She clocks in at 1/6 scale and is due out in late January at 9,240 yen retail; Amiami has a large gallery online for those contemplating the purchase. (no more)

Figure News: Miyazawa Model Exhibition 2007 Fall news roundup

After looking through the Miyazawa Model Exhibition posts at Akiba Hobby and Moeyo a bit more thoroughly I’ve made a list of items with new and updated information that was presented at the event (along with a few redundancies from our previous coverage). The list can be found below, and will be updated as more detailed information is posted to the various blogs; if there’s something I’ve missed please let me know!

Figure News: Zounds! Miyazawa Model Exhibition 2007 Fall FIGSPLOSION

This crept up on me with no warning at all: today was the fall 2007 incarnation of the Miyazawa Model Exhibition, apparently, and Akiba Hobby and Moeyo! Akibajin Blog were both out in force to cover the event. Nearly all of the major PVC makers were there, many with new or newly-painted items on display; it’ll take a little while to figure out what’s what, but from the coverage online thus far I’m personally most excited at the sight of Figma Kanu Unchou, Alter’s Kanu PVC, an alternate color Daiki Mai, WAP’s Garnet in PVC, this Rei (new from Wave?), a third C-Works Bible Black (Shiraki Rika?) figure, and a whole lot more… be sure to check out both reviews for all the action! We’ll pull together what solid information we can as it’s forthcoming. (no more)

Figure News Roundup: Saber Alter, Shuraki, Win-chan, Manaka cold cast

A few updates on figures we’ve been covering over the past few days: Solid Theater’s Saber Alter is now up at the maker’s official site, up at Goodsmile, and up for preorder. More interesting is the news that she is 1/8 scale, but she was resculpted based on a 1/10 kit (see the lowest picture in that entry). She retails in March at 6,800 yen (ouch) with a sculpt from Toda Satoshi. In Shuraki news, Vol. 2 Riu Meifeng shipped from Goodsmile yesterday and is shipping from wholesalers today. Vol. 4 Needa was also updated today with a first look at the interior of the artbook that accompanies her – very tasty stuff. Finally, the new Win-chan we mentioned earlier today is now up for preorder in both regular and limited edition colors, and New Line has a preorder listing up for a Komaki Manaka cold cast (March release, 1/6 scale, 24 cm tall, 14,490 yen retail) that justice demands see a PVC release at half the price. Justice! (no more)

Figure News: Little Busters trading figures, Mamoru-kun bikini PVC pair coming from Toy’sworks

Word is in from GA Graphic this morning on two new figure projects in the wings from Toy’sworks: first is a Little Busters trading figure set featuring the heroines of Key’s latest galge, slated to see release in April of next year. The set of six figures consists of Kamikita Komari, Natsume Rin, Saigusa Haruka, Nishizono Mio, Noumi Kudoryafuka, and Kurugaya Yuiko, each retailing individually at 735 yen and approx. 10 cm tall. Sculpting duty is from Sugawara of sculpting circle Roughness. In other news, Takasu Ayako and Emelenzia Beatrix Rudiger from Mamoru-kun ni Megami no Shukufuku wo! are both seeing bikini-clad PVC renditions, Ayako in February and Emelenzia in March. Both are 1/8 scale, 5,800 yen retail and sculpted by Saitou Koushi of Megatech Body. Preorders for both the Little Busters set and the Mamoru-kun pair are expected within the next few days. [ERO] Goods News: INO artbook Velvet Skin now on sale

A quick note that INO Art Works: Velvet Skin went on sale on the 17th as planned, and is in stock and shipping now from wherever fine artbooks are sold (HD has an Amazon affiliate but that’s neither here nor there). I won’t be receiving my copy until the 30th, though I plan to get a review up as soon as possible once it does come in; in the mean time our creator spotlight on the artist is here. An official Core Magazine preview of the book is now online as well, thanks to H-Gurl for spotting it! (no more)

Figure News: Yoshizaki Mine’s Win-chan coming in PVC from Solid Theater

Yoshizaki Mine‘s TECH Win magazine mascot character Win-chan has seen three PVC incarnations to date from Kaiyodo’s Organic line, but last night Solid Theater broke new ground with the announcement of their own take on the voluptuous PC idol. Their OS Idol Win-chan PVC is scheduled for release in February of 2008 at 1/6 scale (16 cm tall) and 6,300 yen, with sculpting duty handled by zenko. An alternate color Miyazawa Mokei limited edition is available as well. See below for further details on this kit and the Win-chan character:

[ERO] Goods News: Kodomo no Jikan’s Kokonoe Rin comes to Comiket 73 in a snow globe

Word is in from Amiami this evening that Pink Company, purveyors of many odd character goods, will be releasing a Kokonoe Rin snow globe on December 29th, 2007 (the first day of Comic Market 73). The item is based on the frontspiece illustration of chapter 17 of the Kodomo no Jikan manga, featuring Rin clad in her birthday suit and scarf in front of a Christmas tree and surrounded by falling snowflakes. The spirit of the season indeed! Clocking in at 10 cm tall and 2,500 yen retail, in addition to its availability for preorder from Amiami the item is expected to go on sale at Pink Co.’s Comiket booth; other than these two locations availability is uncertain, so a proxy order may be advised for those interested internationally. Pictures follow:

Figure News: Kotobukiya’s Katsuragi Misato, Komaki Ikuno PVCs up for preorder

Kotobukiya has updated its official release info page with data on two new PVC releases coming down the pipe in March 2008, and both are now up for preorder at Hobby Stock: first is Evangelion‘s Katsuragi Misato (scooped here), clocking in at 1/6 scale and 7,140 yen retail. Second is Komaki Ikuno from To Heart 2, who is 1/8 scale and comes with a functional wheelchair at 6,090 yen retail. Both have charm points to recommend them, Misato for being Misato and generally underserved when it comes to figures, and Ikuno for her wheelchair (which is sort of sad, but you know that thing is going to be used in all sorts of creative ways). High resolution galleries of both below:

[ERO] Figure News: Yamato’s Dynamite Keikaku Kanu Unchou PVC sample unveiled; all banged up?

Akiba Hobby represented last night with a review of a post-production PVC sample of Yamato‘s Cobra-Kai sculpted Dynamite Keikaku Kanu Unchou figure from Ikkitousen. Overall production quality is looking great, but one possible cause for concern is what seems to be the thicket of bangs now covering her face. They were there in moderate profusion before, but now it looks like she’s staring out from the mouth of a blue-fanged Tyrannosaurus Rex with very bad orthodontics. Comparison shots below:

[ERO] Figure Review: C-Works’ Saeki Kaori PVC from Bible Black

When C-Works’ Imari came out in April I thought it highly unlikely that I’d ever buy another figure from the brand, and yet here I am, suckered into yet another purchase. Thankfully Saori isn’t quite as bad as her predecessor, but the thumbnail alone speaks volumes: this is not a good figure. Worth picking up regardless? Perhaps… Note: this review contains spoilers from the final episode of the Bible Black anime.

[ERO] Figure News: Gigapulse unveils second Kazama Mana PVC from Yakin Byoutou 2

Ero figure maker Gigapulse posted images on its official site yesterday evening of the second figure in its 11th round of the Giga Collection series, Kazama Mana vol. 2 from Mink eroge Yakin Byoutou 2 (Erogamescape). The figure is scheduled to go on sale in two limited edition DX versions and an unlimited regular version, with the limited versions coming with a “man part” (version A is clear, B is colored) and a few other minor differences. Like the first figure in Giga’s Yakin Byoutou 2 lineup (due out in December) this one clocks in at 1/8 scale and is scheduled for release in March of next year at 8,925 yen (limited editions) or 5,775 yen (regular edition). Pictures of the various versions below:

Anime News: Gundam 00 season 2 in October 2008, Geass 2 in April?

Joining the chorus of bajillions of other anime blogs that have no doubt already reported on this, Moon Phase diary posted early this morning with the news that a second season of Gundam 00 is scheduled to air in October of 2008. Speculation arose when it was first revealed that 00 would only run for half a year that it would be followed in its coveted Saturday evening prime time slot by a second season of Code Geass, and while this has not been confirmed the news that the slot will be vacant from April through September is highly suggestive – something has to go there, so why not make it a show that’s actually good? Haven’t had one of those since FMA… we’ll be keeping a close eye out for any further news of a possible Geass sequel. (no more)

[ERO] Figure News: castoff update – Metamo YUKI N., Resinya Sasara (updated)

A couple of small castoff status updates today: first from Moeyo we have word that Bandai’s upcoming Metamo Yuki that we scooped at the end of last month is cast in a separate piece from her dress, which may point to castoff of some kind (though the odds of anything detailed underneath are negligible). Also, word is in from ASCII that Resinya’s Sasara PVC (scooped in September) is in all likelihood bra-clad beneath her blouse. Rather disappointing for those of us anticipating a full castoff… 11/18 Update: Senaka Blog has shots up of Max Factory’s POLO System Fauna from Megachu in all her cast off glory, as well as sample castoff shots of the Guernsey version of Tsukasa Jun’s Holstein Hanako-san. Incriminating evidence below:
