Figure News: Goodsmile’s Shuraki Needa PVC up for preorder

As of midnight tonight, November 27th, the fourth volume of Goodsmile / Red Entertainment‘s collaborative multimedia figure series Shuraki is now up for preorder! Volume 4 features the Yamashita Shunya-designed Needa as voiced by Chiba Saeko and embodied in a sculpt from Hagii Shunshi of Studio Saru Bunshitsu, and is likely to invoke a similar rush to preorder as her earlier peers Mishiro, Meifeng, and Shall, so haste is advised for those interested in picking her up. Good luck to all combatants as we enter the fray! (no more)

Figure Review: Goodsmile’s Shuraki vol. 2 – Riu (Liu) Meifeng

The multimedia figure series that earlier this year redefined the scope of the figure otaku feeding frenzy is back in its second installment! Shuraki vol. 2 brings the incredibly cute Riu (Liu) Meifeng to the fore, in yet another dynamite combination of character design, sculpting and voice acting talent. How does she compare to the series’ first installment, Akatsuki Mishiro? I’d say incredibly well, but pictures speak louder than words:

Figure News: Persona 3 FES Metis, Ma ga Ochiru Yoru Sherisu coming in PVC from Orchid Seed

Further coverage of yesterday’s Hobby Complex 02 is in today from GA Graphic, which reports on two new PVC kits coming from Orchid Seed: the first is Metis, the FES-exclusive Persona 3 character, with a sculpt from Ishinaga Sakurako (Google cache). The second is Sherisu, the protagonist of eroge and eroanime Ma ga Ochiru Yoru. This is a PVC version of an [ERO] resin kit that came out at Wonder Festival 2007 Summer under the auspices of Kill Time Communication, with a sculpt from Tako Tomoyuki. Price and release information are yet forthcoming, but we’ll be keeping an eye on both as production advances. Castoff Sherisu shots below:

[ERO] Game News: Illusion enters the international market with new brand Digitown

HD reader fake brought this to our attention this morning: Illusion, the (in)famously xenophobic maker of polygon-based eroge, is finally heeding the call of Commodore Perry and opening their work to the international market though official channels. This Heisei restoration comes in the form of Illusion sub-brand Digitown, which appeared out of nowhere recently with zero fanfare other than a cryptic banner on Illusion’s official site. They already have a product available for sale on their English website, though: Digital Girl Rin. This is not something I expect anyone would buy (she’s just a poseable 3D kisekae doll, similar to things Illusion has given away for free download in the past), nor is she officially rated to work with English operating systems, but the fact that they have an international storefront (albeit done in hilarious Engrish) seems to indicate plans for further expansion into foreign markets. We’ll be keeping a close eye on this project as it unfolds. (no more)

Figure News: Hatsune Miku Nendoroid up for preorder

As speculated, preorders officially opened last night for Goodsmile’s Nendoroid Hatsune Miku. She should be gradually appearing at online shops over the course of the day today, so those keen on the acquisition are advised to keep a sharp eye out… There has been some questioning in comments as to what the big deal is surrounding Miku, so a quick word on that: Hatsune Miku is voice synthesizer software that can be manipulated to sing just about anything – in other words, a virtual idol. A combination of solid character design and competent technical specifications provided the platform for a profusion of net memes that catapulted her to doujin stardom virtually overnight, becoming a sensation similar to Churuya-san or the OS-tans. She can be found on YouTube here and here. (no more)
