First announced to be in production back at Wonder Festival, word is in from Amiami this evening that Orchid Seed‘s Magical Amber PVC figure is now up for preorder. Magical Amber is a character from the broader Tsukihime franchise, not explicitly created by Type Moon but authorized by them (I think – she apparently shows up in Character Material as well); I’m finding it virtually impossible to definitively source this character, but it seems she is a parody variant of Kohaku who appears in Melty Blood Re-ACT. The figure is scheduled for release in February of next year at 1/7 scale (23 cm tall) and 6,800 yen retail, with a sculpt from makeplus. (no more)
This is just like that Neko-Arc figure…
I think she’s from the game Magical Amber made by first step who also made Tobi Tsukihime before
I might be wrong tho
Saw it up on Hobby Search and was tempted, but the face just isn’t doing it for me :(
Indeed, many a good sculpt has been marred by an unsatisfactory face.
>>I’m finding it virtually impossible to definitively source this character, but it seems she is a parody variant of Kohaku who appears in Melty Blood Re-ACT.
Which would make sense, given that “kohaku” (ç¥ç€) means “amber”.
Magical Amber is from the Tsukihime sequel game Kegetsu Tohya.
Awesome! She weilds syringes!
… Yeah, that’s definitely Kohaku.

Neko Arc was actually in Tsukihime (she coaches you when you get a bad end, iirc) whereas I don’t believe Magical Amber was. But yeah, generally speaking it seems this is part of the same Type Moon parody universe the Neko Arc and Phantasmoon are.

The Magical Amber game from First Step seems to have been produced relatively recently, and references to her from Melty Blood predate it. I’m curious as to where she showed up originally.

Yep, that was one of the many bits of trivia I discovered when trying to source her. It doesn’t provide any more background information on the character, sadly (that I was able to discover at least).

A search for “Kegetsu Tohya” in Google turns up exactly four hits, one of which is a YouTube video, two are from Hongfire and one is a Spanish language forum. Do you have the original Japanese name of the game? Is it an official Type Moon production?
…. oh, it’s Kagetsu Tooya. Kek. Funny how the name “Magical Amber” never shows up in any of the game documentation. ã“れã ã‹ã‚‰ã‚¿ã‚¤ãƒ—ムーン㯅
Sorry, this has been driving me mildly insane.
You might find more info looking for “Broomstick Girl Magical Amber”. She lock you in the “basement” and pokes you.

I have the game and she makes an appearance every now and then (oh and she is kohaku). I’m not sure if Kagetsu Tohya is her 1st appearance ever, but judging from how the first melty blood came out around a year after the tsukihime games, I would say she’s from Kagetsu Tohya since she never came out anywhere else before that. First appearance is definitely æŒæœˆå夜.
That aside, the face just isn’t Kohaku. And the clothes is sorta fugly. Why is it so hard to find decent Tsukihime figures?
Either way, I’m probably going to get this. ^^
Magical Amber and Phantasmoon are characters designs drawn by Takenashi Eri for the Character Material book (based on Kohaku in Magical Amber form and Arcueid in her princess form), and don’t appear in any game per se.
Kohaku as “Magical Amber” appears with this name for the first time in Kagetsu Touya (and later in Melty Blood) but is just a hooded Kohaku.
Broomstick Girl Magical Amber from Kagetsu Tohya brings back many nightmarish memories of doing her quiz, to try and avoid getting dumped (yet again) in the basement.
Should be noted however, that this sculpt doesn’t really resemble how she looks in either Kagetsu Tohya or from Kohaku’s opening pose in Melty-Blood, which is a hooded figure with a broomstick and scary scary eyes.
Does she look like this in the other games mentioned?
This is an alternate Kohaku based on a Takenashi drawing, so her face is based in that picture, not in Kohaku’s.
And as I said before, she didn’t appear with that design in any game, only in the Character Material, http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/7299/magicalamberlu0.jpg
>>And as I said before, she didn’t appear with that design in any game, only in the Character Material
Are you sure? I definitely remember Kohaku looking like this in least one of the Melty Blood games. Usually, when you’re playing as her, she looks like normal Kohaku in apron, but I’m sure that there are attacks where she sprouts fox ears and tail and/or cloak.
>>I’m sure that there are attacks where she sprouts fox ears and tail and/or cloak.
But not in this true magical girl outfit with the special broom, short skirt, etc.
Quote from the Product description,
“Sometimes she’s a good guy (but actually a bad guy), sometimes she’s someone you can rely on (but actually a bad guy), and sometimes she’s a bad guy no matter how you see it. What could her true identity be…!?”
