Akiba Blog yesterday reported the release of Moyuru Kami no Kuni!, a 270-page moe-clad manifesto from Ikaros Publishing (not to be confused with Icarus Publishing) of what appears to be softcore Japanese nationalist propaganda. Art is from miko legend Tanaka Shoutarou, with text by Suzuki Doitsu, author of Gundam and the Second World War, among others; the book’s content includes such themes as “the reason Japan hasn’t been invaded until now is the presence of the JSDF and the US military”, “there are other righteous wars that should be fought beyond wars of self-protection”, “in order to be accepted as a trusted, normal member of the international community, we must amend the constitution”, “rational countries such as Japan should possess nuclear weapons”, “are there any other countries beyond China, North Korea and South Korea who object to devotional shrine visits honoring our war dead?”, and “sexy miko in lingerie”. If this book becomes a best-seller, one of the above themes in particular seems to stand out as why… (no more)
I don’t even know whether or not all that stuff is meant to be real or an excuse to look at moe pictures on the book.
I want your manbabies!
Oh dear, it was bound to happen sooner or later.
Maybe it’s as informative and helpful as Moetan. One can hope.
the power of moe being used for evil?
Sounds good to me, but it’s strangely cheap: only 1500 yen. I wonder what the catch might be.
So, is there only 10% speaking on moe? From the amount of propaganda, it’s like there’s barely anything on moe! O_O
Can someone in one sentence explain what “Moe” is- is it adult/child love- gay love- human and non-human love? What?
Moe is …. heck you can’t describe that in one sentence. It describes the love for a cute and loveable character. For example, you’d say that Mikuru from Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu is moe, because she’s so clumsy, cute etc.
It can also be used for other things, like hobbies.
Anyway… that book can’t be anything else than crap. I bet they couldn’t sell it without the moe girls so they’re making a second pressing. XD
Well I won’t rant about nuclear weapons, so I’ll shut up now…
[…] manga of the week: Heisei Democracy has news of a moe nationalist manifesto—that’s a Japanese nationalist manifesto done moe-style, not a call to arms for Moe […]
Frankly this concept is bound to get trashed. It may not be tomorrow, or even next season, who knows. I mean, seriously, moe as propaganda? I bet the guys who thought of this stuff don’t have a clue as to how they could represent the overall concept of moe in “sexy miko in lingerie”, for instance. :V
Cheap propaganda.
How will otakus contribute to the right wing agenda? I know one thing stopping me from joining the army is the interruption of my usual activities…
I can’t shake the mental image of Madarame reading this while wearing a kamikaze pilot headband, the rising sun peeking over Fuji-san behind him…
Wtf? Wth? A-I’m speechless…
Such right wing propaganda will persist as long as English speaking countries fail to recognize and educate the public that Japanese denial of early 20th century atrocity is just as bad as German denial of Holocaust.
I need to add that German’s full confession is something to be admired at and be respected. Because Germany didn’t deny the facts, they are much more respected and accepted by the nations and people that were wronged in World War II, while most of victims of Japanese crime against humanity still fervently denounce Japan.
Absolutely, Germany’s actions in war were horrible and far from what’s good, however their confession and actions after the war were all in the right step. I feel that is a far more honorable thing to do than the Japanese trying to erase the past and continue to consider themselves superior to everyone else.
