After the announcement of Cerberus Project‘s Princess Waltz Iris PVC figure from Wafuudou Ganguten last spring I hoped it was only a matter of time before their Angela would follow, and those expectations were rewarded back in June with the announcement of the PVCification of this wonderful kit. How does Wafuudou’s incarnation stack up against the original resin? Read on!

Angela is the proud, haughty princess of Agnis who fights for the hand of the prince of Eldelant to become High Queen in the battle for succession known as the Princess Waltz. She will kick your ass, and you will enjoy it.

Angela appears!
Wafuudou’s rendition of Cerberus Project’s Angela will also kick your ass – as you try to pry off her corset. Ye gods, that thing was persistent… This kit has a whole lot of things going for it, from the original character design to the sculpt with its regal “go at once” pose, but an easy cast off it definitely isn’t.
Wafuudou is firmly in the second tier of makers when it comes to production quality, and that’s reflected here in both the fiendishly difficult (thought quite form-fitting) castoff and a bit of slipshod work on the trim and detailed reproduction of sculpt edges (such as the hair). The castoff process also leaves some scuffage behind, which could’ve been avoided with a protective layer of plastic wrap.
The kit forms a very nice pair with the previously released Iris, and if you liked what you saw there Angela seems a naturally complimentary purchase. Otherwise I’d recommend this kit to fans of her quite fetching design; for pure sexiness there are probably better options out there (and be prepared for a tug-of-war with the castoff), but overall quite a solid kit.
Overall Score: 8.5/10
+ aesthetically slightly superior design to Iris
+ great original sculpt
+ looks nice both cast on and off
o production quality is fair but not great
o pose could be a bit more dynamic
– incredibly stubborn castoff
If you’d like to support HD with your purchase she’s still in stock at J-List; otherwise it seems that HLJ will be your best bet.
Nice! I like this pvc- I might have to look for it later after I get my soul back from Play-Asia……..
Great review- nice pictures too.
Very nice. I like Iris better, but this is nice too. Shame neither are able to be bought for me, as I have to remain low for the next few months due to me buying so many upcoming figures already. I just can’t afford these too! :P
I liked the look of both Princess Waltz figures from the promo pics, but the end product’s had pretty sloppy production values so I passed. Didn’t know both of them were cast-offable though, that ought to be an incentive for many collectors :P
I really loved Angela the first time I see her in the Cerberus Project stand.
I didn’t like the quality of the previous Iris so I picked a prepainted resin of Angela instead of the pvc.
But this pvc Angela doesn’t look bad at all.
Shingo, I don’t know whether you already do this, but warming the plastic with a hairdryer might help when attempting to remove some of the more stubborn castoffs. The PVC will reform to its previous shape once cooled.
Hey Shingo,
Your reviews and accompanying photos are the reasons I found your site and continue to visit each day (specifically, it began with your write-up of MegaHouse’s Koyori). Thanks for the insightful reviews.
You mentioned Wafuudou as being in the second tier of figure makers when it comes to production quality; would you mind running down a list of who you think are the best and the worst?

I’m glad they decided to put the PVC out so we can legitmately support the artists who worked hard to create the kit, and help them continue their work to make more great figures for us.

I’ve heard of the hair dryer trick, and I’d try it if I had such an appliance handy… rather lacking in the long hair department I’ve never picked one up, but it might be a prudent purchase from the PVC perspective. … that’s a lot of “P”s, isn’t it.

I’m glad to hear you enjoy what you see here! I try to be as thorough as possible, and I’m happy to hear that some people appreciate that.
As far as a list of makers by quality, that’s a good idea for an entire separate post. A rough list off the top of my head would look something like this:
Best
Worst
Something like that… it’s hard to rate the broad middle swathe of makers because their quality is often not consistent (they may land a really amazing sculpt but not finish it well, or have a boring sculpt with decent production values, etc.).
Thanks for the list, Shingo! Good luck with the home computer situation, though…
