If not, care to link some sources? Since the only site I see rant about this kind of doom and gloom thing is HD… which leads me to think you’re over-reacting a little.

Keep in mind that while national news in the U.S. (and some other countries, I would guess) tends to be ‘oh, that’s so far off,’ national news in Japan feels more local.

The average news day in Japan is often just celebrity scandals and the like. (not always, mind, but often; at least when I lived there it was) So all of this sensational news is getting even more coverage, because it’s ‘different’.

With these series of Stand Alone Complexes, (pardon the pun), it wouldn’t be long before Japanese authorities starts raiding up all those “sleazy” back-alleys of Akihabara (you know, those “mature content” stuff) because they caused these deaths.
