The final episode of the School Days TV anime was shown on satellite/cable channel AT-X last night, and by all accounts it surpassed even the most extreme predictions for how the show would end. Viewers are commenting that the pull from TV following the recent murder seems justified in the light of its grotesque and emotionally disturbing content, and many are surprised the episode was even considered for terrestrial broadcast in the first place. Moon Phase considers it an instant legend, and the general opinion is that it marks a milestone in Japanese animation, for good or for ill. The question then is: will you watch it (or have you already)? The screen shots and episode synopsis are enough for me, personally… (no more)
I watched the raw this afternoon EST. I’m still a little OMG . . .
Living in tha States I can say even if I wanted to watch it- it ain’t ganno happen for a longggggg time.
loplop- what happen, could you give a breif synopsis. if that’s cool- if not, that’s cool too.
After skimming through the screenies and reading the summary I’m a bit disappointed. Given the hubba-hubba surrounding this episode I was expecting something far more violent and disturbing.
Reality once again falls short of hype.
I just watched the raw version, no doubt the last episode is totally graphical and crazy, definitely not for kids. I don’t mind the story ended like this way, but having so much graphical scenes are disturbing. Feels like watching 11 episodes of love story, then suddenly become a horror movie. No wonder the TV stations pulled it off earlier when the recent murders happened.
I havent seen a single episode of school days yet but Im going to watch the final episode in a few mintues. From all the hype surrounding this episode it would be a shame for me not to check it out.
I have not watched any of the series yet but I do plan on doing so soon. It was on my “to see” list and now it gets bumped up to top spot esp. with all this hype surrounding it.
tldr but i lold.
I’m not going to watch it even with all the hype and the OMGWTFBBQ going on about it. Psycho girl blood rage is just not my idea of a pleasant way to spend a half hour. The screen caps and synopsis was enough for me too. Talk about your ‘Bad End’. But nice boat byetheway.
Voted “Nice Boat” to be absolutely hilarious.
I’ll watch it when I feel like watching past episode 6.
It was everything I dreamed it would be. If you haven’t watched the rest of the series, the last episode won’t be as enjoyable. You really need to hate all the characters to get the full experience.
I swear, this show… I’m even tempted to buy it except that it’d never get licensed in the US.
The last scene of a nice boat alone makes this legendary.
It was sublime, despite the censorship. I didn’t care, and everyone following the series surely did not care either.
Highlights:
It’s a Good End. That is, for us the viewers.
Best three moments (Now without spoilers!):
a) The part in the rooftop that mirrors one of the game’s endings.
b) The scene immediatly afterwards, seen from a weird angle. Yes, once you realize what’s going on you know this is totally fubar.
c) Nice Boat.
I will concur with dogtato, tho: It’s legendary, and quite probably won’t be picked by anyone in the US, just by this episode alone.
Just watched the episode, and… I don’t know. In all honesty, what struck me the most was how sad the episode was. How the tone shifted so drastically from high school love drama to oversexed harem show to finally dark and violent in the last episode. The violent scenes in that light weren’t thrilling at all, just depressing. None of these characters ever wanted things to turn out the way they did, and what about the collateral damage? Imagine how traumatized Kotonoha’s poor little sister must be, or Setsuna for that matter. Not only were the lives of the ‘three guys’ (as the anime’s Engrish subtitle puts it) ruined, but it’s inevitable that everyone around them would be changed as well.
I was expecting to enjoy the bloodbath. But in the end, I daresay it felt horribly cheap above all else. I’m unfamiliar with the original game, but if episode 12′s brand of exploitative garbage is representative of its story than I’m glad I’ll never play it myself. After spending what amounted to months getting attached to these characters (yes, I actually liked them), seeing them being killed off for the sake of ratings and controversy left me feeling dirty. That sort of grime that doesn’t seem to leave no matter how hard you scrub. But perhaps I was asking for it when I didn’t do my background research – it was more than halfway through the show I found out that it was based on an eroge notable for its violent possible endings. Had I known this from the start things may have been different. I might not have grown to feel sorry for these deeply flawed characters, to think things could actually have turned out better than they did. Not like that helps things any.
In short, they won. The last episode got more controversy than a whole anime season is usually saddled with, and I’m sure AT-X’s ratings are doing splendidly. And us poor suckers who actually wanted things to work out? Well, we watched it too so I guess we were asking for it.
Good God that show looks boring.
i youtube’d some of the previous episodes and the main character was such a womanizing prick, and the overall premise so boring that i wasnt going to. but now im interested.
I more or less knew what to expect of the last episode and it turned out to be less disturbing than I had thought. Don’t get me wrong here, the whole story is pretty fucked up but I found Higurashi to be more disturbing than School Days. Probably because School Days is a drama and Higurashi is more on the psycho side. I mean every drama I read back in school ended with bloodshed so why can’t an anime drama series do that?
