The game that defined the tsundere archetype returns! Officially on sale tomorrow, Core Books brings us a cover image (via Moon Phase) of the November ’07 edition of PUSH magazine, emblazoned prominently upon which is the production announcement of the “SECOND COMING” of Tsuyokiss: Tsuyokiss Ni-gakki (Tsuyokiss Second Term). The original CandySoft release of Tsuyokiss in 2005 was a pivotal moment in the definition of what has since become an iconic character archetype (though it wasn’t invented by the game); what the sequel will do for the tsundere persona is sure to be a topic of interest for moe aesthetes around the world. We’ll keep tabs on this as production moves forward. (no more)
Shingo, I don’t know if you’re in a position to know this, but is Tsuyokiss actually a good game? I’ve heard quite a bit about it, but was unsure if it was a cynical ploy to cash in on the tsundere craze or whether there was an actual story to be told there. Speaking as someone with a soft spot for tsunderes I hope the latter is true. Thanks also for the news as always- I play catch up every forget to come and enjoy every moment of it.

As mentioned above, Tsuyokiss came out at a time before there was a well-defined tsundere boom to latch on to. It was part of creating that boom, and while I haven’t played it a large segment of the Japanese fan community has rated it very highly; I think it was by virtue of the game’s quality that the tsundere archetype was further popularized and not the other way around; that said without playing it I can’t really be sure.
Ah, thanks for the response. I was sort of unsure on a chicken and the egg level about its release and capitalizing on the archetype. Seems worth checking out. I just have to work on my Japanese a little more…
