We all knew it was coming: the splatter-fest to end all splatter-fests, the scene that defines the meaning of yandere. The girl whose mind snaps like a twig under the weight of jealousy, driven mad by a man’s indecisiveness and easy capitulation to the advances of others. This is an episode that redefines the meaning of Japanese animation, and beats Eva, Elfen Leid, Now and Then Here and There, Narutaru, and Ail Maniax in terms of sheer awesome horror. This, my friends, is School Days episode 12.

I was waiting in despair for this episode (as many of the rest) and We got the Love Boat instead. They could at least used “relax -O- vision” (remember Freakazoid anyone? in between the gore and blood and We got 23 minutes of relaxing, yet frustrating imagery of Europe, not even Japan at least..

that is a nice boat. it’s certainly better than the first half of school days which is terrible until you realize that the show is apparently SUPPOSED to be terrible and it can then be enjoyed properly.
The promise of a bad end is probably the only thing that kept 99% of it’s audience watching.

Well, that was a disappointing finale. The backgrounds are fine, but what happened to the character animation? You can hardly even make out Kotonoha–chainsaw raised over her head–chasing Makoto into the lake in the screenshot above. Maybe it’s meant to be viewed on an HDTV or something. The boat sequence was handled nicely, at least… even better than in the original game, IMHO.
