Volume five of Comp H’s magazine is
on sale today! Though not yet listed on the on Comptiq’s official site, we’re here with the scoop on what looks to be another clear win for the Lucky Star fans. See inside for Shiraishi Minoru gosurori cosplay, a Konata mask, an Akira cell phone strap, a loooooong park bench, and more posters than can be counted on the figures of two regularly endowed human hands. Edit: Updated with shots of the Lucky Star Nico Douga parody and the AX Haruhi concert report!

First things first – I forgot to take a picture of the page with a tiny (3 cm wide) shot of the SOS-dan concert at Anime Expo. The concert gets a mention in a text box not much wider than the picture on a page largely devoted to the Haruhi concert DVD on sale today, and it mentions the bare facts without going into detail (the seiyuu were there, they sang to a bunch of US fans, here’s a tiny picture). Will up a shot of this later if there is interest. Edit: it’s up:

about as much coverage as the concert deserves… orz
Ack! I just realized I also forgot to shoot the Lucky Star page that’s a Niconico Douga parody… ugh, this review is totally worthless. I’ll amend with the appropriate imagery as soon as possible. Edit: Lucky Star Nico parody up!

this has nowhere near enough wwwwwwwwwwwwwws to be convincing
At any rate, this issue definitely continues the IV drip of memes that have come to overwhelm any original manga content that Kyoani’s Lucky Star TV anime may once have had. I consider this to be a good thing, if only temporary gratification; I can’t speak to the shelf life of the series, but as a hype machine and an experiment in reciprocity between fans and creators it’s definitely a fun watch.
Outside of the Lucky Star content I can’t say there’s much to recommend this issue, unfortunately; none of the posters reached “must hang” status for me, and the other articles are pretty standard fare. A pity, given the strong showing the magazine presented at its outset; in keeping with the season I would’ve appreciated Moetan, Umisho, Zero 2, and Zetsubou inclusions at the least (would Gurren Lagann and Geass be too much to ask as well?). I expect this month’s Megami may take the initiative in the poster department… still, a fun issue for fans of Konata and company.
Where to buy, should you be so inclined:
what’s the deal with Aya Hirano’s page?
the S.O.S. concert at AX was a 5/10 for me. love the seiyuu. didn’t like the hosts all too much. they mess up on the sounds. of course the concert was late. the whole thing was unorganized, but according to the guy that hosted it(power ranger guy) the whole thing was scripted (BS).
i like that anime Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, good stuff haha. can’t wait for episode three. lucky star and lovely complex as well. jaa ni.
There’s a few pages of Aya-tan photo shoot in there, more or less a promo for her recently released photobook.
I agree about the AX concert; it was incredibly disappointing from every aspect other than the 30-40% of the time they let the seiyuu actually sing, and even then the songs where they had to match on-screen character mouth movements were out of synch. I feel sorry for the Japanese guests for what they had to go through at the event.
Zetsubou-sensei is good stuff. I’m noncommittal on Shinbo’s overall body of work, but this is definitely a good title he’s latched on to.
hahaha…that minoru shiraishi face mask is awesome! some how i dont feel thar weirded out by his gothloli out. probably because of all the odd antics he’s been doing?
Photos of the new Megami have been leaked. http://s3.amazonaws.com/danbooru/5cd7be91dccd9c9fdff1c28ce19edc6a.jpg
To be honest it doesn’t look that great either.
[…] pencilboard. But that’s ok as I really like this shitajiki. As Shingo pointed out in his review, none of the posters had the ‘OMG must buy and hang’ always on my mind level of […]
