I’m kinda of shocked they did this, since I thought Gainax would go for their usual “Them vs the Otaku” mode of thinking they did for Eva. And ridden it to the bank for the rest of this series.

But in the end, it is a business. And Anime is way too much money now for people in the high end of a company to run their mouth at a portion of the fanbase. Even if the insult was probably mild for the 2ch/4chan audience it was waimed at…:)

(And since I care not for most Gainax stuff anyway, I find this all the more amusing…)

Well, that’s some crumby news; it seems like an overreaction to Gainax staffer conduct that could at worst be described as “unprofessional.” On the other hand, the situation is getting me all hot and bothered about the studio again… it’s exactly like something Classic ’90s Gainax would have gotten tangled up in ^_^

Hint: Takami Akai is a man, he’s been with Gainax since the Daicon days, this is a really big deal, not for Gurren as that series is finished their 18th episode now but for Gainax a whole.

Which exact part of ep 4 was experimental? I didn’t see any part that would warrant such negativity.

Now I know why Gurren Lagen has so many threads on 2channel, lol. She shouldn’t have insulted the fanbase, but she’s just talking about them they way they talk about everyone else and each other. I guess they can’t take what they dish out. It has seemed to me that 2channelers tend to be pretty conservative in their tastes, preferring a safe rehash of old memes and styles to anything remotely unique. Making her walk the plank seems totally unfair, but I guess it was probably necessary.

Well, it was a necessary step to calm the fan community again. Otherwise the studio’s commercial power would be in danger.

I am afraid that there might not be any experimental stuff like Gurren Lagann ep. 4 from GAINAX anymore, given the audience’s intolerance towards original animation direction and art. Hopefully GAINAX will not return on its former commercial Mahoromatic-path.
