Howdy Shingo!

Orbus: Yeah, I just about gave up on Eureka Seven midway through, when the crew took to smacking Renton around for no apparent reason every other episode. What the heck was the deal with that? I seem to recall some incongruously nasty stuff in Scrapped Princess, too, that soured me on a series I otherwise liked quite a bit.

>>Dr. Matt

I would agree with you as far as Full Metal Alchemist is concerned. Even Eureka Seven had a few of those moments. At least Ouran managed to avoid any traces of sadistic intent. :p

So far Darker than Black hasn't really grabbed me yet either. I like the whole post-spandex superhuman angle to it. The premise could almost fit a western comic book rather than an anime. So far not sure what to make of the characters though. We don't know enough about Hei yet, and I have no idea what to make of the talking cat.

>>Zeroblade
This is Nanoha we're talking about - no artifact created by human hands in the course of our history as a species has ever befouled the frontal hairpiece in such a manner. I bring conclusive proof: she can try to hide in the crowd, but Evil Queen Oppositebang will always be discovered and her evil ways brought to light.

>>Dr. Matt
Agreed, Darker than Black comes across to me as sophisticated but vaguely depressing. I like Bones' work in general but I'm not sure how far I'll be following this.

Indeed, I haven't seen anything yet that quite matches Gurren Lagann in terms of overall goodness and sustained watchability right from the get-go. I'm not incredibly optimistic for the remainder, but we shall press on!

AFter the promise of Episode I, there's nothing to rouse my interest in this round. Review of Emma: Second Serve required!

Darker than Black is funny... it's got a lot going for it on paper (high production values, delightful sci-fi/occult weirdness, Yoko Kanno), but I can't work up much enthusiasm about following it. There's sort of a sadistic element to the show, for one thing, which turns me off. I get the same vibe with many of Bones' other productions.

Anyway, cool reviews!
