Ignis is my type of heroine as well. I'm past the point of avoiding duplicates (to the point of actively seeking them of characters I like) so my advice isn't exactly unbiased - especially considering that I haven't even seen the Alter kit in person yet - but I'd still say go for it, sir. :3

>>The O
It's impossible to say for sure whether someone will pick up Bubba's Haruhi kit for mass-production, but word on the street here is trending against the possibility. It's several grades of intricacy above the typical PVC (or resin/cold cast) paint job, for one, which might make it prohibitively expensive or downright impossible to produce in reasonable quantity. I hope for both our sakes that I'm wrong about this. :(

>>SbebiWan
Those are photos of the original resin, and I agree, they do look great. If they can keep the quality of the PVC kit to that standard I'll be waiting in line for my copy on release day (or waiting for the preorder truck to arrive). The 18+ listing there is happy confirmation as well...

>>Jankars
Right you are, but Hobbynet lists it as Aniplex and against my better judgement (and time constraints) I didn't investigate further. Fixed, thanks.

>>ShinjiPG
Fixed, thanks for noting that - it took me three reads to see what I did wrong there. -_-;;

No problem, any time!

Hadashi Shoujo is the maker's name, and they put out Oshioki Sweetie last year to much acclaim (by me). The INO designs really do make all the difference...

Any signs of any companies deciding to take up the challenge of mass producing Bubba's Haruhi bunny for us non-kit builders?
I'm sure it will be eventually due to the popularity, there's a lot of money to be made here, i.e. Max Factory's Haruhi.
I agree with the aspect of Hobbyfan trying to cash in with their rescast, lets not forget E2046... but both companies do offer prepainted versions which is a large pull factor for fans.
I'm waiting for an official mass produced release; PVC would definately rake up sales, but I think I'd personally would prefer a prepainted resin, maybe a company like Griffon could do it.

I'm on the fence about Alter's Ignis. Max Factory's version is superb. I'm trying not to buy repeats, unless it's a really different. Ignis is very appealing though, since she looks like a woman instead of looking like a girl, so she really stands out from most current releases. I can already feel myself cave in. Alter+Ignis, so why am I resisting?

For some reason I thought you were going to follow that up with Dark Helmet.

Regarding Really? Really! I'll be interested to hear your impressions after you give it a run through. I'm glad you're up to the task, because I had very little idea what was going on in the video after a first watch-through... orz

Simple answer - Bandai doesn't own the rights to produce Eva figures, Gainax does. Gainax is very permissive about granting licenses to amateur garage kit circles and striking deals with figure producers; hence the infinite array of Eva figures.

Unlike doujinshi, it's very hard to produce and sell a figure in Japan - whether resin or PVC - without permission of the original copyright holder. Bandai is notoriously tight-fisted about this permission; Gainax is notoriously loose. That pretty much explains it, I think.

Shingo, I have a question. Bandai owns the rights to Evangelion figures, but we have seen so many Rei and Asuka figures released by independent sculptors. It is the case that they just sculp and the figures are published by Bandai? Or do they buy some rights from Bandai? Or is the situation the same as that of doujinshi, in which every just make what they want?

For a minute there I thought Dark Saber actually said Dark Schneider.

The Really? Really! demo movie looks totally epic. I can't wait to get it. Sure, I won't understand much of it, but I made it through the original Shuffle! and had a good time with it, so why not this? Also, it focuses on my favorite character, so I don't see how it can be disappointing at all.
