In today’s update: Higurashi gets a PS2(?) game with stunningly boring designs, Soukou no Strain is a new anime sure to inspire PURE RAGE, a Happiness! anime announcement tries to tone things down, game news from GUST, Kogado and Idea Factory, the definition of “Miko” (a must read!), hot hot kimono-clad action in Lilith’s Ayame, the week’s eroge roundup (27 titles, oof), a treat for the bakunyuu fans, and some spicy, spicy love from Habanero-tan.

Media Side

boring.. booooooooooooring...

  • Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Matsuri is the tentative title for a “consumer edition” Higurashi game currently in production from Alchemist and slated for release before year’s end. The hardware it’s being produced for hasn’t been decided yet; presumably it boils down to a choice between PC and PS2 editions (I’m guessing they’ll go for the latter; why reinvent the wheel?). The ham-fists of the original are at any rate once again banished, for better or for worse… despite their clumsiness I have to say I prefer the old and busted over the generic blandness of the new designs shown here.

this makes me ill.

  • Soukou no Strain is a cheap piece of wannabe sci-fi harem trash that no animator should have been forced to waste a second of his or her life working on. Rage building as I spend more time at the site… WHY CAN’T YOU SEE THAT THIS EMBODIES EVERYTHING THAT IS WRONG WITH THE JAPANESE ANIMATION INDUSTRY TODAY, PEOPLE?!! GAAH!! … ok, moving on.
  • Windmill’s Happiness! is the latest eroge to see an all-ages anime incarnation. According to it’s slated to air this fall, and comes in conjunction with a manga version running in the newly-launched Comic Alive, a novelization, visual fan book, and Happiness! ReLucks, the sequel / fan disc due out on July 28th. There’s a figure or two coming down the pipes as well, if I recall correctly… whether any of this will actually make anyone happy is another question altogether.
  • Atelier Iris Grand Fantasm is the latest PS2 game from GUST, and is now on sale. Mentioned here because I know there is an army of rabid GUST fans out there (at least one or two) who would track me down for a lynching if I didn’t, and because of my secret PS2 gaming envy.
  • A trial version of Kogado’s Blue Blaster (on sale today!) is now online, along with an explanation of the game system. Seems to be an RTS, from the looks of it, with bits of ADV thrown in for good measure.
  • The OP movie for Spectral Force 3: Innocent Rage is online today, for those with Xbox 360s or those who just want to look at some shiny animation.

Ero Side

A definition of “Miko” from the opening movie of Studio Ryokucha’s Miko-san Fighter Ryouko-chan:

A “MIKO” is traditional Japanese religious dress. The graceful line raises female neatness more, and has the effect shown beautifully. These clothes that express sacred to God, and the symbol of being Shinto priest by the color. The color with, female beauty is pulled out.

…now we know.

now this is hotness.

  • In a rather more, shall we say nuanced depiction of traditional Japanese sensuality we have a demo movie online today for Ayame, the flagship title of Lilith’s new Mist division. I’ve become an instant fan of the character designer, credited as “Nobushito”; it seems he has a negligible web presence beyond work on this and another Lilith game, alas. For some uncropped sample CG see here, and the game is currently available for purchase via download for those so inclined.
  • scoops the 27 eroge titles on sale today, June 30th. Of greatest interest to around here is Hachukano, the ota-love title that is the first offering from maker Mero-mero Cute; also making waves are Marin’s Hitozuma Sakunyuu Hanten and Lucha’s Yoyogi Hitozuma Senmon Gakuin (I think there’s a theme here…). Peas Soft’s Koi-iro Chu!Lips is another mainstream title that’s been in development for awhile now that might be worth taking a look at for the moe set.

yes, these proportions are ridiculous. your point?

  • In a piece of superb news for the bakunyuu fans, Gunner-L‘s recently released doujin soft side-scrolling shooter Saa Ushi da! is now available for purchase on English DLSite. Not much more that needs to be said about this, really…
