According to its newly-launched official site, TV anime Strawberry Panic will join Simoun as the second yuri show of the spring 2006 season. Cue Yumi for a reaction:

… ok, I couldn’t find anything more cheerful on a moment’s notice. This is great news for yuri fans (or those who don’t care for most male anime protagonists, such as myself); hopefully there will be time to cover both shows in a bit more detail at launch.
yes, more girls + less guys = winning combination
Great! I was specting this since last Dicember…
Hope for another great yuri series, like Kashimashi.
Lets wait.
The rumours were correct afterall. Yuri banzai~!
Yuri? Isn’t shoujo-ai nicer term. Anyway Strawberry Panic looks to be G’s Marimite clone, looking forward to it but not expecting anything great.
I’m not aware of any explicitly sexual derivation of “yuri” (百合, lily), and it gets the point across pretty well – unlike the distinction between yaoi / BL / shounen-ai, shoujo-ai doesn’t seem to be used in the common Japanese parlance afaik. Also, “yurimeter” sounds better than “shoujo-aimeter”. :V
Agreed, “G’s Marimite clone” sounds like a pretty apt description. I’m not expecting genius here, but another stopgap to tide us over until the OVAs is always welcome.
Great, I was expecting it. Another esu anime :D
As SP is prepublished in a seinen magainze, I expect the yurimeter to be higher than in Marimite, too.
As Shingo said, shoujo-ai was invented by americans fans, on the same model than shounen-ai (another term frequently misused by occidental fans). AFAIK shoujo-ai isn’t used among japanese fans.
i am looking forward to more yuri title. i actually wonder if they are going to relase kashimashi in the us?
Girl, meet girl! XD
Is it going to be the formula of:
Girl gets girl
Girl loses girl
Girl gets girl back
Well?
^_^
I read a chapter of Strawberry Panic, and it left me with absolutely nothing to hope for. Maybe for serious Marimite addicts something that steals the formula will work, but it doesn’t have anything else going for it at all.
