Oops!
I closed the tab in firefox containing today’s half-completed update, and poof! Gone. This is in no way indicative of the direction in which the site will now be going; thanks to everyone who provided input, I think at the end of the day (when I can control my itchy tab-closing reflex) things will stay much the same as they have been. I do need to refocus internally on what I see as the site’s central mandate, namely “stuff I personally have a passing interest in” and “taking time to stop and think, and post about stopping and thinking.”
Lost in the mess of recent frenzied updates has been the quality of reflection that I’ve tried to bring to the blog from the beginning (or at least from about a year ago); obsession with appealing to a common denominator isn’t what this was originally about, and after thinking about it that’s not where I want to take things. This isn’t to say that I’m aiming for exclusivity, but I’d like to have a more serious, mature, engaged, and therefore smaller audience than have a teeming horde of fanpersons come on board.
I mean, HD is all about rabid fandom. But I like to think that what I’m doing here is fandom’s slick veneer, an oily pond scum that sort of floats on top and clings to the toilet bowl when you try to flush it down. Gibbering on about expansion isn’t going to help that particular mission. I need to step back, take a deep breath, refocus, and move on. Regarding the development of a community, well, there’s not much I can do about that. It’s faintly ludicrous for all of the last posts in the forum to be from me, and I don’t have time to do much with the 2ddb right now so it very well may come to naught. The options are there, though, for those who might be interested down the road.
I’ll try to compile today’s news update after work; items of note include a site launch for Key’s next all-ages title, Sasami Mahou Shoujo Club broadcast announcement, [ERO] demo movies for Sabae no Oh and Kougeki Shoujo Falselion, March Megami contents, a big [ERO] surprise from Megahouse’s Stellar ver. 2 PVC, and Dragon Age Pure vol. 1 goes on sale.
I’m both happy and relieved. I love HD just the way it is. Maybe I should have said that when you asked… haha. I’m a winner.
It’s good to hear that, thanks. Believe me, this sort of comment is welcome on any post. :3
Get Tab Mix Plus, it has a feature that lets you open recently closed tabs. It keeps data in forms, I just tested it with this comment form.
Or you could look into a seperate program to post to your blog; the only ones I’ve used are Linux only so I can’t help you much there but I know they exist for Windows as well.
Thanks for the advice, Hannibal. This could have the potential to remove some serious headaches in the future…
Tab Mix Plus sounds like a good deal; the only thing I’d be worried about is that it seems in WordPress 2.0 if you enter text into a post field, page back in your browser and then page foreward again, the text is erased (provided you didn’t save first). WordPress 1.5 kept the text intact. I suspect that Tab Mix Plus might lose the unsaved text regardless.
It might be a good idea to look into using a program other than WordPress’s native web interface, at that. If / when I have some extra time to mess around I’ll see what’s available.
Ah ha. I just tried the trick with WP2.0 on my weblog and it did not work. Alas.
http://wbloggar.com/ looks pretty good for a frontend, I remember seeing it before. I’ve installed it and after a quick glance it looks pretty good. It does syntax highlighting as well. You might want to test it to see if it can handle Japanese characters though.
just to point out that there is also a Sabe no Oh feature on game-style. :)
