I’m still a novice when it comes to using this camera, and the poor Himekuri Image Girl has fallen prey to my need for a guinea pig. I may redo the review later if I figure out how to make things look a bit less brown, although I think it’s a pretty accurate representation all in all; I’ll be experimenting with picture count and layout in future reviews to try for a more interesting presentation. I need a background less tacky than a few sheets of A4 paper taped inside a box…
man, i want that figure. im a huge fan of mine yoshizaki. im not a pro at photgraphy, but it seems like the brown maybe due to an exterior setting on the camera? or your light is not at the right temperature for interior lighting.
It kinda looks like you’re not getting enough light. If you have a few desklamps, those are pretty good for lighting up PVC figures such as these. You can also try forcing the camera to flash to get more light as well.
MonkeyDPirate: I think it’s a combination of camera settings and the fact that I neglected to cover the interior roof of the box with white paper as well, which wound up reflecting the color of the wood tone down onto the figure. I tried again with a different figure after fixing that and it made a big difference. Still not perfect, but with some tweaking (especially of the white balance on the camera) I think we’ll be getting places.
Jason: I must be doing something wrong in that respect, as I have exactly what you mentioned (a couple of desk lamps) targeting the figure directly. I need to figure out how to make it look as if it’s really being lit…
[edit] I do know that the first step is turning them on. :V
Flat is NEVER a bad thing. That said, I like this figure a lot.
From that picture, it kinda looks like you’re using white paper. You can use that backdrop to set the camera’s white balance, and you’ll know that you did this correctly when the paper comes out white. Right now, it kinda looks pinkish. The easiest way is probably just to shoot in RAW and batch adjust later. Inspired by your effort, I used Hazuki’s own white dress to set the white balance for this shot.
Yeah, I’m using white paper. Your Hazuki shots look great… I’ll continue working on the white balance issue, this is all very new to me. Thanks for the tips, by the way.
Took me a bit to find this link again (which is sad because i need it too) I have to photograph product stuff, and i have completely deleted all of my studio photography knowledge from college:

might be worth a look.
Oho, awesome! Thank you sir. It looks like that’s aimed squarely at someone of my level of cluelessness, so it should help quite a bit… Now to go tupperware hunting.
I was really thinking whether I should get this figure or not, but your pic shows what a high level of detail this figure has. I might order this now…hee ^^;;;
It’s a pretty darn high quality figure, I’d definitely recommend picking it up. Good luck getting ahold of one, I’m not sure where they’re still in stock. ;;
oh, I know a few sites that still have them so it’s all good. ^^
For those who missed the chance to get her…
of course being a BOME series figure, she’s gonna be released in Sept for about $19.99 through Diamond.
