Heh. This view could be called the front of the line…
This morning I was at what might be called the back. Truly, come at 11 or so if you aren’t going to be there EARLY. By the time you get there at 11-12, the mass crowd has filtered down. Besides, half those early birds are selling those choice books to Mandarake anyway. Maybe I’m just bitter at not waking up early ^_^
Serious though, personally, I go for the obscure stuff one stumbles across at random that big doujin shops have no interest in (heaven forbid someone draws something not from FMA this season…). For example, today I ran across this lady selling this awsome tiny books printed on wedding invitation paper with double folded pages and immaculate printing quality. No popular characters, no birght colors, just damn fine artwork presented beautifully. Anyway what am I ranting about?
Enjoy everyone!
You’re right, there are entirely different ways of going about the Comiket experience. I tend to be in manic pursuit of doujin by certain authors who are virtually guaranteed to sell out during the course of the day, so getting in early is a priority… I’m not convinced this is the best or most fun way to do the event, as what you say is definitely true: if you’re looking for the strange and the marvellous at Comiket there is no reason to queue up early or venture into the thick masses of humanity surrounding the popular booths. Amazing things can be found on the periphery if you choose to wander, and I’d do more wandering if I had more a) time and b) money. Alas.
