Media Side

  • The official site for the 2006 animated film Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo is now online. Sadamoto Yoshiyuki character designs! Based on the 1965 novel by the same name.
  • Sunrise’s official Zegapain anime site is online. Giant robots, high school students built out of hexagons, an initial premise similar to that of Dual – what else do you need in a show, really?
  • The first episode of Rean no Tsubasa is still streaming free for the next few hours, but requires a DRM upgrade to Windows Media Player to view. Without knowledge of exactly what that means for me and the DRMless content on my machine I’m reluctant to take the plunge. Free should be free, without DRM strings attached – I don’t care what you do with your paid content, but you’re not making any friends by forcing people install vaguely threatening “upgrades” just to watch what is supposedly a promotional preview. If anyone reading this knows the extent of WMP’s DRM malignancy I’d appreciate a heads up.
  • StarChild has an official site online for their upcoming Himawari anime, with designs very much by okama. Is this the show inspired by Miina, the Densha Otoko Daikon IV ripoff character? I don’t think so, but if not I have no idea what it is. We’ll find out soon enough.
  • [ERO] The official site for Cream Lemon New Generation is online. According to Moon Phase this is the cinematic equivalent of the Lemon Angel Project TV anime, but I can’t imagine it will be shown in theaters… at any rate, they both form the spearhead of a new Cream Lemon revival powered by this idol agency in general and Shihono Sayaka in particular. I’ll take the LAP designs over the new Cream Lemon any day.
  • Speaking of the ugly, Toei has a page online for its upcoming Ayakashi anime. It’s subtitled “Japanese Classic Horror”, and I don’t need to watch a second of the show to see why. Note to Japan: if Amaterasu had meant for you to look like freakish ghouls you wouldn’t have been born with eyebrows. Shaving them off does you no favors. At all.
  • Gonzo teams up with Range Murata once again to bring us Mardock Scramble, the fifteen billionth new Gonzo production slated for release in 2006. This one seems to be an OVA, with a ratio of two unshaven men for every prepubescent female character in evidence. it’s science fiction.

Figure Side

  • Figure Alternative posts the early beginnings of an April 2006 figure release schedule; watch this space for gradual expansion over the next few months.
  • Speaking of April 2006 releases, Hobby Net finally updates with a pair of items that have been making the rounds elsewhere for a couple of days now: Konami presents this Evangeline A.K. McDowell PVC along with this Sasaki Makie PVC, both from Mahou Sensei Negima.
  • The Chara-Ani Hazuki PVC released earlier this year via mail-order is now available via widespread general distribution. I expect it will only be around in limited numbers (HobbyNet seems to be already sold out), so if it’s something you want I’d recommend quick action.

I picked up a set of Ice Cream’s Lemnear figures yesterday, drawing the full set in five tries, luckily. A bit pricey, but solid quality (with one of them nopan, to boot). Pictures should be up eventually. Now to start scanning for the manga update…
