School Rumble Episode One was entirely satisfactory, and offered the additional bonus of a very funny parody scene that was not present in the manga. Aside from that scene the anime seems to be staying true to the original, which from a design perspective will work well in my opinion. The character designs transfer really well from the manga to the anime.

After one episode I can’t tell whether I like the anime because I like the manga or because it’s actually shaping up into a good show in its own right. Working against it is a choppy, disjointed narrative style, in this episode at least, which will hopefully be smoothed out once the more substantial plot arcs start. The manga does start as a series of isolated scenes designed to introduce the characters and their relationships more than tell a story, so I’d say there’s hope for a more linear plot flow in the future.

I’ll add some screens here if I feel particularly motivated when I get home tonight, or maybe start a thread in the Anime Death Tentacle Rape Whorehouse.

Also, my new computer will be coming next Monday. After it is successfully settled into its loving home I’ll probably start bringing my laptop with me to work again, thus enabling me to covertly post images and curse luridly here without fear of IE repression. Yay.
