Early this past week I was made aware of Genshiken. By Friday I had joined the group translating it (Jinmen Juushin) as the manga’s new head translator. Between these two events I found myself in the posession of the first three volumes of the manga and the latest volume of Afternoon, in which it is serialized. I also found myself swept away in the throes of passion by Ohno Kanako, who is hands down the hottest and most desireable two-dimensional character ever depicted by the hand of a Japanese. Person.

Referring to a Japanese person as “A Japanese” sounds bizarre to me, although I know it’s commonly done. You don’t call a citizen of the U.K. “an English” or “a British” or “a United Kingdomer.” “A Breton” or “a Brit,” perhaps, but neither of those are used as adjectives to describe objects as well as people of that nationality. Where does the noun/adjective nationality pairing work? “An American,” “a Brazilian,” “an Australian,” but not “an Arabian.” English is a fucked up language.

Although I’ve signed up with Jinmen Juushin I don’t intend to abandon Boku no Futatsu no Tsubasa; chapter five is the next item on my translation agenda, followed by Genshiken 9. Once I finish through chapter 7 of BNFNT however my attention will likely shift to Genshiken primarily. Hopefully by then I’ll be back in the groove of getting a chapter done every week or so.

In closing, I would like to reiterate my undying love for Ohno Kanako. In a subsequent entry I will explain why Genshiken is the best thing since Otaku no Video; for now, go to the Jinmen Juushin site (linked above) and download what’s been translated of it so far. You will not be disappointed, unless you are a fucking faggot. With no time for fansubs.
